Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Well, guys, i have my 1st NHRA Stocker shortblock assembled. All is well... Keep in mind , this is sort of a budget build, so, i dont have the best of the best, but i believe that i have some good parts, to get goin. Heads are being done, as we speak. Hope to have it in car, early March, so i can test, before the INdy April meet. Heck, i gotta get my membership and car #! hehe... THanks for all the good advice, and support, i have recieved on CR.com. You guys rock! Here is a pic of the completed shortblock, as of this past Monday evening....

Brent,,, do you plan on taking the car to Columbus,, the 1st weekend in May for the inaugural Northern Class Nationals? It should be on every racers' bucket list for next spring. If so,, I hope to meet you there,, take care.

Hey Danny... I will have to see... Is a top 128 deal? Or an all run? Sounds like fun... If i can get it to the INdy Divisional, with no major problems, i might just have to make that one...its only 3hrs away from me :)

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

If they do it this time around like it was run in 2001 at Byron,, they had, I believe 186 stockers on the property,, and I forget how many Superstockers, which is why many referred to it as the "Woodstock" of class racing.
Nitro Joe can correct me on this if I'm off on the count,, but it was a memorable event that I'll always be glad I flew out to see it. Take care.

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Finally finished wiring the MSD 6AL/2step/Blaster2 Coil up today. Got it running, set timing 34*, sounds real good...just got to tidy up some of the wires, that were there before i hooked it up. Anyone running a the same parts, and are the Blaster2 coils problematic? And should i have mounted it straight up and down? Thoughts?

Update... Pan and front cover on...cam in @ 104.5... Heads are done, staying in the house until i put them on... it was -16* today... I have junk heads on it, to keep cylinders clean and rust free... Next is rockers and pushrods...and then we can prime it! Dont know if INdy in April is a possibility... Too much $ and not enough time... Im thinkin that Joliet in June is a better , more attainable goal... unless i fall into a boat load of $...:D No sense in rushing it...

Just what I was thinking. I could likely use a couple of those myself.

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Thanks! It works well...doesnt give alot of room behind the Alt, but ive never had a problem... My '62 has same setup on it... and i have a few running around out there, as well... I have a few alum blocks in the cabinet...

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Got the new heads on it, last weekend... I figured out what pushrods i needed, and should have them tomorrow... Once valvetrain is set, i can prime it, and its ready to install... Intake is not bolted on yet, as valley pan isnt either. Gettin closer! Converter is at ATi... should get it back anytime:D https://scontent-a-iad.xx.fbcdn.net/...66736491_n.jpg

I hear you... I have 3 cars to tinker with..but , the Bird is gettin all my attention this year...the other 2 run just fine, and are there whenever i wanna blow the cobwebs out of them....
Got my pushrods today and ATi is done with my converter..should have it in the next couple days! Still doubt that i will make INdy in APril, but shootin for Joliet in late June...

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Its not a matter of me gettin car finished, as much as it is $... Im gonna try...but i have taxes coming up, and this weather needs to straighten up, because its hard to get motivated when its 5* and snow all over the place...hehe We are supposed to get large amounts of snow and ice from Saturday to Monday...

brent flynn 03-03-2014 07:41 AM

Re: Update E-F/SA Bird Build...

Well, i finally got the engine buttoned up. Set valves, put intake and valley pan on... Primed oil system...65psi, all 16 rockers oiling. All is well with the world...hehe. Got my converter back from ATi, on Friday...So basically, other than seals and checking pan on the 2.75 low gear 400turbo, its all ready to set in the car. I think im gonna wait and run it once more, the way it sits, since i hooked up MSD over the Winter. I would like to verify that its all workin good, before i put new engine in it... INDY in APril is not a possiblity, at this time... i need a few things, like helmet and fuel pump, and taxes are approaching. Im gonna set my sights on Joliet , in Late June. That will give me time to sort car out a bit, before i hand over 185.00 for entry..hehe
