Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
Word from Alex:
"Mark has cancer and it has very rapidly spread within the last few days. It is highly unlikely that he will make it to the weekend." :(:(:(:(:( This is awful news. Everyone...and I mean everyone here needs to pray for Mark. The power of prayer has worked miracles before. Life is too short to bicker over the little things. Hug your friends while you can. Relish every good moment you have, big or small. Take time to take in all the positive things around you in this life. Because tomorrow it could disappear. |
Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
This is terrible news for sure. Mark, I will be thinking of you constantly! I know the hospital is a scary place but have faith, God loves you. It's so hard, I know, but be positive and you will get through this. Jim

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
Mark passed away this morning losing his battle with melanoma.
He is survived by his wife, 4 children, and parents. As I learn more about services or places to pay respects I will notify all. I have lost my best friend. RIP Mark. |
Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
I spent some time visiting with Mark at the Phoenix races, he looked great and had told me of his condition. He was upbeat and positive about things. I will miss him. I too consider him a Friend who was always willing to offer help to anyone who was in need. I can't believe he is gone, yet I know he is in a better place and free from pain.
My deepest respect too him and his Family. God Speed, Mark R J Sledge |

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
This thread is a stunning and tragic chronicle of the swiftness with which the world can turn. Mark was a real guy. I can never recall a time when he didn't have smile and say what was on his mind. He was a racer's racer!

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
I always enjoyed my chats with Mark. He was a fun guy, always friendly, always smiling. I last saw him at Pomona and he told me had cancer and was about to start treatment. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be the outcome. It was a pleasure to have known Mark. My heart breaks for his family.

That is very sad news..
I never met Mark, but had a long phone conversation with him awhile ago about clutch and suspension setups. Very knowledgable, friendly and helpful. It just shows how quickly things can be taken away. My heart goes out to his family and those who knew him personally. Truely a great loss to the racing community.

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
I had talked to Mark saturday while i was doing a event in Roxboro NC and we was talking about his condition and how he was going to beat it. Man i was floored when Jim Defrank Sr told me about it today as I was asking Mark if he was coming to Vegas for Mopar event for Calvert. Just to let everybody know Mark was a really big insterment in making my stats deal work, as he was great with computers and fixed me up with all of them i use. rest in pease my good friend , I'll never forget all the help you have done for me since day one.
Like Alex said I have lost one of my best friends. |
Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
Called Alex and broke the news to me around 1:30 ET. I spent the whole day at Barrett - Jackson and couldn't help think of Mark with every Mustang I saw. Enjoyed the day, spending most of it with Elaine Larsen (jet jockey) and Scott Demmy (M/SA). Elaine was bidding on a car and wanted my assistance. It was a bittersweet day though, knowing Mark is gone. I remember Mark's car when Al & Don Keen owned it. I couldn't wait for the day I would finally meet Mark since he & Alex were good buds. Never ever heard a bad thing about him. Had fun with him here on Class Racer on a few occasions.
Please read my first post in this thread as it holds truth. Cherish the time you have and give thanks to God for every new day. From what I've heard, Mark would probably want us all to do the same. R.I.P. Mark. |
Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
Oh man.......very sad news........and angering as well. We can be sure Mark faced his illness with the passion and "spunk" he showed in life. While I may not had had the opportunity to know Mark as well as many of you, he was always willing to stop by say hello, express his opinions on any and all subjects and help if asked.........I enjoyed his positions and directness but most, Mark would leave you laughing. Mark and the wheelstanding Mustang will be missed...........just not fair.
Alex, please do post that address and name on how we might be able. Brad Vokes Tempe, AZ |

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
The loss of Mark is a tragety that will take some time to heal. He was a great racer and a fearsome competator. Him and I raced many times for class and he was always right there nipping at my heals. He was also a great inspiration for me to work harder on my race car because I knew he would be there to race with all his effort. He was always there to help me with anything I needed and helped me change trans and clutch more than once. I can say that the world will be a lonlier place without him around. RIP Mark. Kip Martin

Re: Mark Tallent in the hospital
I had the pleasure and honor of working with Mark at Calvert Racing. I miss him terribly...I miss his knowledge, his wit, his wicked sense of humor, and most of all, his unselfish assistance. My desk was adjacent to his, and many times I'd put a call on hold, turn 45o and ask Mark a question, he'd give me an answer that not only could I understand, but that I could pass along to the customer for their knowledge and benefit. I learned much by listening to Mark and John trouble-shoot problems, challenges, new designs, etc. The drag racing world is a lonelier place without him, and our shop is a lot lonelier without him. Condolences to the Tallent family and rest in peace MarkT7724!
