Live from Belle Rose!
We will be there in a couple of hours. Boy is it a long way straight south! Just crossed into LA and we have driven 500 miles already. We left yesterday morning and stopped and looked at motorhomes on the way. Stayed at a nice Walmart parking lot in Brookhaven, MS last night. Now if that truck driver hadn't parked right next to us and thrown on his jake brake at midnight, I would have gotten more sleep last night. But we got him back this morning when Larry cranked up the air compressor right by his window!! The whole parking lot was empty and he parked 4 feet away from our bedroom window. Oh well!!
We are really looking forward to our favorite race of the year. Planning on running Top Stock tomorrow with the old Private Lee. We will give you more info after we get there. We have plenty of wine, vodka, and beer, so come on over! Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Patsy, Have a good time and keep us posted. We really appreciate the stories when we are stuck at work.Wal-Mart is one of our favorite Camp GroundsToo...
Good luck to Larry. Thanks for the great listings of St. Louis TOP/STK , Dick Butler |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Got here about 11 and boy was it hot and muggy! Then it rained for a while and then the sun came back out and it was hot and muggy again. Now it has cooled off and clouded up and started to sprinkle and the wind is up, whipping the awning pretty good.
We have been down talking to Mike and Paula Cotten, Greg Hill and Al Corda. Also saw Jimmy and Debbie Bridges , Richard Carter, Sammy Pizzalato, Marlene Nelson, and Jim Wahl. We will go out again when the weather lets up and give you another report. Trucks, motorhomes and trailers are continuously pulling in. Dick, I will try to keep you up on Top Stock. I don't know if DRC will be here tomorrow reporting or not. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Great, where do you find the card games at this track anyway?
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
I don't know anything about card games. I love to play tho so if you find out, let me know. We have been over to Greg Hill's drinking so if this is mis-spelled it is his fault. He made Larry a Bloody Mary after 3 Absolute on the rocks. And of course, he didn't have any wine, so when I came back to the motorhome for a wine re-fill I fell into the motorhome. Oh well, skinned knees will heal. More people pulling in, but it is really wet in the pits. But Pat Joffrion had the foresight to put gravel down in the pits so all is well. He has been down for a coors light this afternoon. We are parked next to Ken Howell and have already been into ;a big politcal discussion this afternoon. But isn't it great-- this is a free country and everyone is intitlted to their own opinion. As for our household-- Larry calls me a "Yellow Dog Democrat" ( I would vote for a democrat if it was a yellow dog running). But I have voted Republican in my lifetime. Anyway, we had some good discussions (especially after a couple of drinks.). .
More later!! Patsy |

Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Rumor has it that Richie Stevens Jr. is going to drive one of Larry Cummings Super stockers. That will be the first time for a full tree since he drove Jr Dragsters.

Nice try Greg.. sounds good, but I believe I saw Richie Jr. run Sr's D/SR in Comp a couple of times. For you young guys D/SR was a class for V-6 engines that NHRA had quite a while ago. They did away with the A/SR weight & moved B,C,D up.That is why there is no D/SR in Comp. |

Hey Larry, My mom wanted to know how "Dinner" was last night?
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Jason, tell Janice that "Dinner" was great as usual!
Looks like it is going to be a great day here in LA. This morning it was really foggy, but the sun is coming out now and it looks good for the rest of the day. If you are planning on coming down, be sure and bring your bugspray. Was standing outside this morning talking to Ray & Jason Buckner and got bit by mosquitoes and stood in an ant hill and got my foot ant bitten. So now I have the bug spray on. Also saw Jerry Newsome and Painter Stevenson this morning. Also saw Jerry Bennett's old Aspen that Butch Marlowe now owns. Met him this morning. He is taking good care of Jerry's baby. It is still pretty muddy here, but there is still plenty of parking. There are not calling for more rain until tomorrow. We start test'n tune at 1 and then top stock at 6. More updates later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Talked with Bob Downing. He and Zaskowski drove down from Mich. 22 hours. Also saw Tim Cole, Marlene Nelson, Tementos, Pouceau, Bobby Roper, Domangues, Carey, John and Tim Barlett, Larry Hudson, Ronnie West, Jeff, Joey, and Frank Teuton.
Talked to Paula Cotten and see is trying to decide if she wants to run Top Stock this evening or drink? More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Just made our 1st pass down the track and it wasn't too good. Lost .11 in 60' since last weekend. Maybe they will spray the track a liitle. The air by my guages was 1681'. It is 83 and partly sunny.
A few other racers that are here: Charlie and Austin Ford, Edmond Richardson, McClister, Bob Dennis, Jeff Dona, Sammy LaPorte, Sammy Pizzalato, Dick Lux. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Ed: Mike & Paula said you must be talking about years ago when they ran at Tulsa. You couldn't get by with that now!
More racers seen: Westcott's Warfish--He didn't make a good run. J. Allen Sherman, I think in a SS/AH. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!

I guess we will see just how many after 1st round of qualifying in the morning. We run at 9. Get 2 qualifying shots, then 1st round of class. I will be surprised if there are enough cars to be a 7 round race. Same for Super Stock, also. More tomorrow. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Congratulations to Super Stock Sam and all the Top Stock competitors!
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Patsy-while I am just a huge stock/super stock enthusiast from the left coast, (amatuer bracket racer, amazed at how fast current s/ss cars are) I wanted you to know how much I appreciate these trackside reports. I do not know any of the racers, except from following on line and in National Dragster, but being able to follow the et/winners here is something I look forward to all day when I check in and realize you guys are at another event and you are keeping everyone up to date. Thank you and I hope someday I will get to meet you and Larry.

Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Patsy,
I really want to thank you for the live coverage you bring to us keyboard racers. Hopeful, I'll be out sometime soon. I'd say car count is off because of fuel prices. Hey, could you do me a big favor? While your walking through the staging lanes could you see what HP Sammy P. is claiming. There's several different combinations that will fit in that car and I'm just curious. Thanks, Have a great time. |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Terry, Larry says Sammy's car is a 427, 400.
Nice day today so far. Kinda overcast. They just called us up for 1st qualifying. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Thanks for the updates, now if we just had some video of all the action :D
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Well lots of cars came in overnight. There were 81 stockers on the 1st pass this morning. The weather isn't looking too good for today, so they are running everyone pretty quickly. Superstock is running now, then superstreet, then we run again for qualifying then superstock, super gas, then 1st round of class.
Terry, Larry says Sammy has a 427, 400 in his corvette. We had 9 B/SA cars this morning. Funny note: I'm listening to Super stock running and Sammy Pizzalato is running Dan Fletchero. Dan said he just wanted to fit in down here in Cajun country. DRC should be putting qualifying up soon. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Larry,
Thanks again, Have a great time. |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!

Re: Live from Belle Rose!
They have been talking about cooking a ton of crawfish tonight and I'm sure we will eat our share. We will be sure and eat 1 for you Jack.
We will be running class in just a little while. Weather is holding up but there are tornado watches all around. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
What was the Density Alt. during first round of stock? It must have been pretty bad.
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Density altitude was 1836' by our guages. In A/SA Roper beat Randy Here. Also in B/sa they are showing Temento beat Pouricau. It was actually Terry Emmons. They just called Stock back up for Round 2.
More Later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Jim,
How did you have to run a Q/ car for class? I know that nhra sometimes has a brain Fart, but that match-up needs a WHOLE ROLL. |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Mr. Hill, If you would please congratulate Austin Ford & David Buckner on class wins. Tell them I was there in spirit for them. Go get em boys.
Stocker Bobby |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
The Fords and Buckners are parked right across from us, so we will congratulate them for you in the morning.
Just got back from a great meal of shrimp and crawfish at Landry's in Pierre Part. Really good. They postponed the crawfish boil til tomorrow. Suppose to get bad weather tonight, but hope it bypasses us. Just in case, we already have the awning in. We get a time trial tomorrow before the cic race. More tomorrow. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Alan,
We were both on a single, they just ran us together. That car FLYS! He set the Q record and was invited to the barn where he passed with flying colors! George is a good fella and he lurks on here to. I took it easy. the engine is weak. Gotta save it. Jim |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
larry
congratulate austin and charlie for class win and there is a new d/sa record by a fi car 10.52 @126 |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
We got lots of rain and wind last night, but nothing damaging. This morning it is still very cloudy, but not raining. They are still drying the track. The big King of the Bayou race starts out for the super categories. Stock and superstock will get a time trial around noon that does not count for qualifying, then the cic race starts. Then the hemi shootout. Should be a fun day. Then the crawfish boil.
Roussell and Duzac were invited to the barn for teardown yesterday. Jim says that the truck passed and I assume Duzac did, too since I haven't heard anything to the contrary. Does anybody know what time the NCAA basketball tournament comes on today? I haven't seen a newspaper in a while. I guess we will be cheering for Memphis since all the Kentucky teams are gone. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
Patsy, Memphis-UCLA is at 5:00 this evening. Good luck and stay dry.
|
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
The " tough luck " award in yesterday's eliminations goes to Gary Emmons in C/SA. In the 3rd round he was racing Jeff Adkinson's 69 Camaro. Gary tree-d Jeff and he was ahead at the 1000' when evidently an unforeseen attack of "restless leg syndrome" hit him and he just left off the gas and hit the brake allowing Jeff to advance to the final round. There is talk in the pits about setting up a general medical fund funded by donations so he and other known victims of this disease can be helped.
I know that was a tough loss for you Gary. Better luck next time and we all wish you a "Speedy" recovery. Larry |
Re: Live from Belle Rose!
I guess with all the starting line antics that Gary uses (even in qualifying), he actually out-smarted himself. You gotta watch karma...it always gets you in the end.
