Atco Records
There were 3 records as far as I know.
Stock: Joe Greek, P/S, 12.39 @ 108.05 mph & Jack Matyas, D/SA, 10.52 @ 125.83 mph. S/S: Gregory Gay, SS/NA, 11.23, don't know the mph. Carol Greek |

Re: Atco Records
Congrats Jack, Joe, and Gregory

Re: Atco Records
Jack, Thanks to you and Bill for making my work look good! .......A new record in D, [I'll forgive you, since my own junk will probably never run that fast], and a best engineered award for the new GTO. .....Congratulations ..........Tom

Re: Atco Records
When you are ready to set the record in E, keep in mind I weigh 137 pounds.
|
Re: Atco Records
Robert, Did you gain a few pounds?
Scaz |
Re: Atco Records
Yep, I gained 5 pounds since quitting smoking in October. Speed On!!!
|
Re: Atco Records
Jack Matyas, question, set record in d/sa and raced in e/sa ? Tom
|
Re: Atco Records
Tom -- Yes , you've got it right -- I set the D/SA record on Friday then changed cars and ran the race in E/SA -- I could have never done it without the help and support of my partner Bill Myers and my team member Rich Scaz .
Robert---Tell everyone what your secret is to quitting smoking . BTW 5lbs isn't that much--when I quit I gained 45 in 6 1/2 months. 137 LBS---HMMM............. Tommy -- Sorry to say I didn't receive the Best Engineered award yet but I did get Best Appearing at Atco for our new GTO . Either way your work looks terrific and works even better than we hoped . Artie -- After all these years I still feel like a rookie some days ! ! |

Re: Atco Records
So qualifying in E/SA at -1.476 under at a national open earns you a 3.25% HP increase.... at least according to the AFHS "explanation" on the NHRA webpage. So when can we expect the '06 GTO 364/400/391 go up to 364/400/404 for stock?
The other question that comes to mind is, since Jack is the first to ever run this combo in stock, why did the NHRA drop the HP from the factory 400 to 391 to begin with....??? Someday all of this might make sense, but I'm not gonna bet on it. |
Re: Atco Records
Way to go Greg!! I have not got to chat with you at a race in some time. you are a class act!!! Hope to catch up with you soon, Don Jackson
|
Re: Atco Records
Bill
I thought they did that with all GM products?? Am I missing something here? You making waaay too much sense Bill!! Sorry I didn't make it Belle Rose, hope to see you soon Later RJ Sledge |
Re: Atco Records
Jack, what year GTO are you racing, 04, 05 0r 06, Tom
|
Re: Atco Records
Robert,
Keep it up. I forgot that you quit. Jack, I guess you better to spell it out before this becomes 7 pages of BS and misinformation. I love the internet. |
Re: Atco Records
Bill -- OK -- here it goes -- First off I didn't go 1.47 under in E/SA in qualifing -- that was the 10.52 that I set the D/SA record at on Friday (with a different car) .This was strictly a typo on NHRA's part (or Drag Race Central--I'm not sure which) . Next thing is our GTO is a 2004 not a 2005 or 6 , which has an LS1 engine not an LS2 . Today all of this makes perfect sense to me but you'll have to pay more attention as the game is moving along at a very fast pace . By the way there will be no HP increase on either cars . Hope I've cleared things up........
PS--I too love the Internet . |
Re: Atco Records
Well, not completely clear. I run D/SA so that is where my interest is coming from, otherwise I wouldn't even pay any attention.
So did you set the D/SA record in a 2004 GTO? I don't know how you could do that since according to the class guide the 2004 GTO has a 10.96 lb/hp break which is a natural F, very nearly G. You cannot drop more than one class from natural so that car is not legal in D. So what car did you drive to set the D/SA record? That's all I'm interested in. Thanks, Bill H |
Re: Atco Records
Mr. Joe is that the same 96 S10 with a different grill or is that a new truck? Also how did the teardown go being there is no info about the motors on NHRA.com for the 1998+ trucks.

Re: Atco Records
Bill , If you go back to post number 13 in this thread , Jack explained that he set the D/SA record with another car ( Firebird LT1 ) . He withdrew that car and re-entered in his 04 GTO in E/SA . The run listed for his qualifying time was for the Firebird NOT the GTO. Information got mixed up on the sheet. There was NO 1.47 under run just the info mixed up. His GTO is an 04 with a HP rating of 350/340. I hope this clears this up once and for all !!!

Re: Atco Records
Thanks for the info. In post #13 it says:
"Tom -- Yes , you've got it right -- I set the D/SA record on Friday then changed cars and ran the race in E/SA -- I could have never done it without the help and support of my partner Bill Myers and my team member Rich Saz ." I guess I'm just too old and stupid to see where that says anything about a Firebird. All that is mentioned to that point (and beyond) is a GTO. For all I know it was the same car with a different hood or added weight or whatever. I don't run in Div 1 and don't know Jack (literally) so I don't know what cars he owns or races. If I get information from the web, it is generally pretty reliable. If something doesn't seem to add up and it affects me since it realtes to my class, I'm gonna ask questions. Sorry if I pissed on anyones Wheaties. |
Re: Atco Records
It doesn't say anything about a Firebird. I said Firebird in my post and that is why it was in parenthesis. It says plainly that he changed cars. Nothing more nothing less.
|
Re: Atco Records
Thanks Dave I couldn't have said it better myself -- Opps - wait a minute I did say it ! ! ! BTW guys my age don't do Wheaties --- we're mostly Raisen Bran w/granola --- keeps us "regular" .
|
Re: Atco Records
Give the guy a break, it was not clear on the qualifying sheets and if you were not at Atco it gets confusing. My word, a little touchy for older guys, the man has a D/SA and is intereested in what happens. Is this where I challenge someone to a fight at the racers. LOL, LOL, just kidding, I am a lover not a fighter.
Great run Jack, looking forward to seeing the car in person. |
Re: Atco Records
Not a very good one either!
