Indy Weather

Just looked at the forecast for Indy this weekend and it doesn't look good. Saturdays high is supposed to be 43 and it is supposed to rain. I hope it changes before then. If the forecase doesn't get any better I doubt we will waste the fuel to drive out there.

Re: Indy Weather

If the weather forecast is half close the west side of the pits will be a mess...........

gd31 did ya take a look on that side to see if water is laying around ?

I agree that the forecast will probably change 6 times before the weekend. However if it doesn't end up showing higher than 40's on Sat we won't be going. As high as fuel is, it is not worth it to take a chance. I will just have to keep an eye on the forecast this week and see what it does. Too bad it isn't going to be as nice as it was this last weekend. That would have been perfect!

I went on a local news channel website in Indy and checked what they say about the weather and it is not good. I will watch the weather and Thursday i will choose on what i am going to do. looks like the only good day will be Saturday right now.

Lee,

That is kind of the opposite of what weather.com was saying. They had saturday as the coldest day. This really sucks, we have been busting our but to have everything ready for this race. Worked on the firebird yesterday and we are about 1 hour away from firing it up. I am ready to go!

Later,
Ryan

Re: Indy Weather

This past weekend it was great weather. Next weekend looks questionable.
We were there Saturday. First pass the dragster went up on the tires at about 400 feet and shook the rest the way. Second pass we made a full 1/4 mile pass skating from 400' on. Car still ran 7.68 @ 173. The slow cars didn't seem to have the moving around like the dragsters had. I talked to several guys that were running 4.90's (1/8) and they said the same thing. By the first round it seemed ok but it started getting cold when the sun went down. I did not go Sunday but heard it was better. I was told they switched to the VP traction compound and was trying to get it tuned in. Hopefully the weather men are wrong and we get it in.

Re: Indy Weather

They are saying in the SS section that there is standing water in the west side pit area. If they get the rain they are supposed to this week it won't matter if it is nice enough to race this weekend or not. They wont be able to get anyone in and out of the pit area.

Re: Indy Weather

Ryan,

I went to Byron on Saturday, Jeff Sperling and Jim Gerakeris where there with their dragsters. They could only do 60ft's, the starting line was very bad. Pulling up rubber on the burnout and launch. anything after 330 was even worse. Water coming up from under the rubber.
I made 1 full pass about 5:30pm i went 10.39 @ 125 and spun on the launch and had to get out of it.
I got sick Saturday night and had to leave, they where scrapping the track on Saturday night and i would have loved to run Sunday.

I looked up a local tv news station in Indy... Channel 8 i think it was and went to the weather section.
I will do it again Wednesday night and go from there

I am glad to here you are close to running Ryan,
Not many T/S guys here are, Brian Brown is still putting his car together,
Tim Kirman will not be ready to go, Rick Sojka, Mike Radtke, Jim Tacchia, Tony Griz.... all not ready yet.

If they have the race i will look you up,

Does part of our entrance fee go to pulling trucks & trailers out of the mud or our we on our own? Sunday morn at 33 deg doesn't look to good for 1st round for S/ST or 2nd round for all others........
Looking worse all the time!

What's the deal up there? Is everyone making serious changes or what?

SSTRACER323 04-07-2008 05:15 PM

Re: Indy Weather

Brian had his car and chassis painted, motor freshened,

Tacchia sold his truck to Lee Ebersol and bought a Firebird, twin to Sojka's.
So he is still putting it together.

Sojka is redoing the motor. it is in reassm now.

Radtke sold his car and is in the process of updating a car he is going to use this year.

Kirman works for Comm Ed and will be on Black out at work so he basiclly works 18 hours days for a month and i think he starts this week.

Griz is putting his car back together right now. motor freshened.

That is all i know for now.

Are you all set to go this year?
Have you been out at all up this way?

Re: Indy Weather

I'm ready to load the car in the trailer, have not been out.Every thing is fresh for this year, except the driver, not much I can do for him.The weather don't look that good.Maybe someone will let us know before people start this way like Tues. or Wed. Could spend alot of gas money and not get to race. Not a big deal for me I live on the south side of Indy.I just hope they don't wait till people are in line to call it.

SSTRACER323 04-07-2008 06:21 PM

Re: Indy Weather

I am thinking the same thing.
I got only 1 pass on the car so far.
New motor is in and the trans redone and wiring and tires and .......
The last thing i want is too get there and have to turn around and come home.
It is not bad for me about 3 hours but i fell bad for the long haulers to get here.

I hope they decide on like Wednesday if they are going to try and get it in or not

Re: Indy Weather

I looked up the weather at undergroundweather.com for clermont
Thursday 70 % t-storms high 60
Thurs nite 80 % t-storms high 50
Friday 70% showers high 60
Friday nite 50 % showers low 30
Saturday 50% showers high 40's
Sat nite 30% showers low 30
Sunday 40% showers high 40's
Sun nite more showers
Rain & 30's sounds like snow...
How can a track be any good when it's that COLD.. Plus rthe pits have standing water.. If they call it
they should do it soon before everyone takes the time off from work. And spend the $4.35 diesel price.

I was on the west side at Indy yesterday (Sunday) to check it out. I didn't see a whole lot of standing water, but pretty much everywhere I walked the ground was soft. I doubt it would take a lot of rain to make it pretty sloppy:(

You all know the weather reports will change over and over ,, we should get jobs as weathermen , its the only job i know that you get paid to be wrong,, if we check it wednesday afternoon , thursday and friday should be accurate... until then i wouldn't trust it, at worst i'll pack a keg and we will still have fun

Am I the only one that thinks this event needs to be moved permanently? I have froze my back side off at Indy more than once, so have most of you. The weather channel is now calling for snow on Saturday and Sunday. I agree we are to far out to call it. However no matter which decision Jay makes, the only thing for sure is, he will be wrong to some. Maybe Rock and some other folks of influence could talk with D3 about another date later in the spring on a go forward basis. That seems to be the only productive thing. Hope to beat you all soon. It's hard to get into drinking when it's 35 or40 deg with coats and gloves on just to keep warm. And it's no fun sitting in the trailer by your self drinking.................
Have to have good friends around !

Steve

The Sportsman Advisory Counsel member on this site....struggles with changing the weather....

but I will post something on the status of the Indy Divisional as soon as I hear something....

Frankly, I don't want to go there and freeze my but off and struggle to get down the track....then get stuck in the mud when I go to leave...this race is too early in the year....

a lot of guys aren't ready...and even if they were....do you really want to attempt making a run in 40 degree weather....I don't want to even start either of our cars in those temps....its too cold to even have a beer...we've all been through this enough times to know we don't want to do it......

plus my motorhome fill up was only 675 last Saturday....right after I paid $185 to the wrecker to pull me out of the our driveway because it was so wet....

And what about Boo Boo...trying to qualify for the Jegs All Stars...How would you like to have this screwed up weekend decide on the winner of that deal...you hate to have some rain delayed cold track deal seal your fate.....Good Luck Chucky....

I may not be waiting until tomorrow at 2:00pm to decide weather or not this race is canceled for me. I am with Rock, who wants to spend that much money on fuel to go there and race in crappy weather. We have a new combination that we haven't tested and a cold track and 40 degree weather is not the best place to do that. I can drink beer at home.

Carl,

When do you want me to pick up the scoop?

its never to cold to drink beer , however i do draw the line at 60 degrees for margaritas beer and hot totties 40degrees and less blackberry brandy for sub zero weather , nothing better than an ice cold beer on a 90 degree day .....

Local weather this morning says 1 to 2 inches of more rain Thursday and Friday. This will not be good on the west side of the track. I would think they would cancel. I am 20 minutes north of the track and my yard is soaked and very soft. Extended weather is getting better. Just my .02
