Front shock problem
I have a 67 camaro. I have a set of single adj shocks. Problem is on the pass side when i try to install shock it moves thru the lower control arm then seems to bottom out. So far i have had to compress the spring a bit to get the shock stud up thru the hole. This car has been aligned by a very smart super stock racer and he didn't see anything obvious.
One more thing, i bought the car with competition eng front shocks and i remember the stopper was ground down. It's obvious to me they were having the same problem. Thanks a lot guys and gals. I just love this site. David one more thing, everything is stock control arm wise, etc. |
My guess is the spring has been altered for lower ride height (heated, cut or intentionally made).

They are small block moroso trick with a coil cut out
|
And to boot no matter what spring over the few years I have had the car
Same problem. Only on the pass side. Wouldn't this problem possibly show up on both drivers and pass?? |
OK, so at Full extension you cant put the shocks in? that means that ethier the shocks arent long enough, or that you need to adjust the stops in your upper control arms

Brian,
I run spacers to drop the shocks off the lower control arm mount enough to expose the adjuster. |
Oh, dont do that you'll limit you're front end travel, and top out the shock on every pass (which damages the shock).
this is what i did to cure that problem: [IMaGe]http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c181/SpeedyGoomba/Shockmod.jpg[/IMaGe] |
Brian,
I think the gentleman that built me the one off shocks used the wrong shock bodies and that's why i use the spacers. I still have 6 + inches of travel last time i checked. |
As long as the shocks arent topping out they're fine.

Thanks a lot Brian That set up you run looks awesome. Do you need the lower control arm to make that deal work, i can't tell
|
Sorry, I just went back and looked at what you did,
|
thanks,
Took alot of effort to place the shock in perfect spot for this setup! I had originally built plates for it, then i went back and trimmed a 1/2 coil of the springs, which affected how the sat in the car (not as bent on full extension), and allowed me to move the shock again for more travel, hence the new tabs, and more grinding. then i welded stainless locking nuts on the top of the tabs so that i wouldnt need to go through the same pains to install the bolts/nuts as i had previously done. What brand of shock are you trying to install? Who built them for you.
