5.0 Mustang Stocker ???s
I am new to this board. I would like any info you guys could give me on building a 5.0 Mustang for Stock I will be running a automatic. Any help would be grate. Also if you know of or have any parts for sale that might help me that would be good to. Thanks
|
First, for starters, you need to tell us the year of the car. Work in the suspension first such as reinforcing the boxes and installing aftermarket upper and lower control arms, frame connectors and a roll bar. As an autoamtic car, you need a good C-4 trans. You also need to get rid of the cC-Clip axles too, along to installing a good limited slip or spool and appropirate gears.

I would contact Evan smith
Second i would get ahold of Wild-rides in Famingdale NJ for info on the suspension reinforcements (battle boxes) and control arms. |
I will be useing a 89 GT I allready planed on doing the roll bar and the susspension stuff. I would just like to here what other guys have to say. So I do not waste money and time .
|
Based on my research of chassis parts out there, the best frame connectors and roll bar I have found in kit form are from Wolfe Racecraft. Wild Rides makes the best reinforcement kit. For uppers and lower bars and front control arms bushings, I would go with Global West; the rules requires a non-adjustable lower bar; only the upper can be adjustable. Front springs Moroso, rears OEM springs. For shocks, Lakehood, QA-1 or Tokico drags work.
|
You definately need the subframe connectors. I believe your car fits a class which does not require a roll bar if you don't feel the need to have one. I would concentrate on the proper gear, tire, and torque converter selection. You will benefit most from those items after the subframe connectors.

I don't think the suspension is the most critical part of your build up. At most, I would put adjustable shocks and struts on it and sub-frame connectors. spend your money on the fuel system and fuel injection system. Geet that right with a good converter and the right gear and you will be happy.
|
Also reinforce the torque boxes before you tear them apart.

No I didn't get it, Just checked this moprning at 7:45 am Call me at 601.942.3131 after 5:30 pm Thanks Larry

Cool Thanks. Did you make any test runs yet? If so how far under has it run? |
12.20 so far... no tuning to speak of... just basically got the thing to run. No adjustments to the clutch, shocks, or anything. The next outing will be at the World Ford Challenge at Indy on May 17-20. We will see what we can do...
Where are you located? Shawn Allsup F/FI 718 |
pretty fast out of the box. been working on mine slowly. suspension and trans work mainly. just installed the holley commander 950 on the stock 100,000 mile motor. best time so far 13.05 @ 98 mph. gonna try to run g/fia next year.
|
you might want to try and run H/FIA to get you more under the index. The index gain you get for the weight is worth it. You get .3 from G to H and go from 3180 to 3395lbs and if you use .1 per 100lbs you get a free .1th. I think you get more than that though. I don't know what division you run but around here there are some fast G cars and trucks so you have to run pretty strong to keep up with them or do like I do and run and hide until I can build a new engine. These cars are really fun and you can get alot out of them for what you have to put into them. Hope it all works out for you.
good luck, mark |
thanks, but g is as low as i can go since the car is a notch. maybe i'm wrong but it looks like the car falls naturally into f/fia.

Did you run that with a factory stock long block? |
Stock 5.0 I have a 1989 notch it fits in h/fia and has run 1.12 under the index. I'm a chevy racer that just put this car together 3 years ago because it had belonged to a friend that had tried it as an 85 carburated 5 speed car and gave up on it. The car has no tricks just good basics, and good tuning. you can see the car on auto imgagery under Lee Valentine and can reach me at 203 775 6830 between 7&9 pm EST almost any night and I'll tell you anythihg you want to know. Lee Valentine
|
Lee is exactly right. I also have a notch and have run F -G-H it depends if you run it as a 88 or 89. you don't have to go crazy with these cars and they will run. drop me an email if I can help in anyway.
Mark Biskup ps Hey Lee, how are you guys doing? tell Bryan, Heather and I said Hi. hope all is well |
I did not run the factory longblock.

Jocke, My E- mail Stock 1661 @aol, give me a shout. Lee Valentine

I have a few questions for you guys. What size rim should I run on the rear of the car 15x8 or 15x10 Waht is the best slick to use in stock? Also what gear should I run it the rear 5.13?? YThanks
|
right now i'm running a 15x8 with 5 1/2 backspacing with a 26x9 hoosier and a 4.30 gear. cam change and i will change to a 4.56 or a 4.88.
|
I run 9x30 hoosier radials on my automatic car. 5:13 gears , 15x8 inch wheels. Radials are .14 hundreths faster than bias tires on my combo but probably won't work on a stick. Lee Valentine
