Diaper DIscussion
Guys,
Has there been a recent change in the NHRA rules concerning the recertification of diapers. My rule book says thatSFI 7.1 diapers need to be recertified yearly, and that SFI 7.2 diapers have to be recertified every 5 years. Is this still true? The reason I'm asking is that one of the diaper companies has told my friend that diapers no longer need to be certified. Thanks in advance Bill |
Re: Diaper DIscussion
they don't need to be certified for S/C and S/G...just approved....

Re: Diaper DIscussion
Thanks Rock, could you get NHRA to print that in the dragster thanks and remember Keep your mess in your diaper and off the track !
|
Re: Diaper DIscussion
not sure if its true but (you may want to double check with NHRA) I heard that if the diaper is certified it MUST be re certified as necessary but if it was always an approved diaper it does NOT need to reinspected / certified.
Thats the way it was explained to me! |
Re: Diaper DIscussion
NHRA needs to do something! The racers just have no clue about the actual diaper rules & its not there fault!
|
Re: Diaper DIscussion
This is true ,if you buy a SFI Diaper it will have to be recertified every year or every 5 years that is the rules. This is the main reason why I tell guys to buy the NHRA accepted diapers.

Re: Diaper DIscussion
There is a new product I have seen recently that is better than a diaper....well maybe not for you diaper salesman but better for us racers. It's a plastic bellypan/tray that has straps to attach it to the frame rails. Don Davis is selling them. I also have friends who had the belly pan installed and I think that is way beter than wrestling with the dipaer...I have an RCI SFI 7.2 on my car right now.

Try a DRE Diaper and you won't be wrestling with anything. Ask Warren Johnson how well his belly pan worked a few races ago when he almost put it in the wall. Marc Caruso S/ST, S/G 132 H/R, S/R 1324 T/S, P/M 1002 |

Re: Diaper DIscussion
I always wanted to know how to spell touche'. I am all for the diaper, I believe it is way better to keep your junk in a bag then on a plate.

Re: Diaper DIscussion
Wasn't That State Of The Art Belly Pan, What Allowed The Oil To Slush Around & Fill The Car With Smoke , Then He Hit The Wall.........................i Ve Used Dre Diapers On A Dragster, A Door Car & My Roadster, & Everyone That Dennis Sent Us Worked Fine....no Agg.....
Thats Just My View........! Wayne |
Re: Diaper DIscussion
Hi Rich,
I purchased a kevlar sportsman diaper from Dennis this year. It is a well constructed product that fit like a glove. I think it takes longer to get it out of the box than to install it on the car. It was WAY easier to install than changing the spark plugs!!! Give a DRE diaper a try, you won't be sorry. John Visner |
Re: Diaper DIscussion
In my opinion...having to have a certified diaper recertified is balogna....just rip the cert sticker off after 5 years and call it an approved diaper. I've yet to see a tech man check any of my diapers for anything other than maybe one actually being on the car. As for which diaper to buy...There are many out there that are good...I use J&J diapers...they just came out with an approved diaper for $120. I'll probably get booted or get some crap for saying this...but I'd have to think so many people on here support DRE because he's on here regularly and sponsors this site. I can't say anything bad about DRE...never used them...but I've been using J&J stuff for several years now and they work great.

Re: Diaper DIscussion
Hi guys this is Dennis Ridgeway from DRE thanks for the support .Scotty I hope the support DRE gets is from our service and not because we sponsor this site.We have provided diapers to sportsman racers at a very good price and provided a quality diaper .We do not slam competitors, there is plenty of work for all of us.DRE supports many charities and sites, plus we give to about anyone that is doing a charity.I will agree with the recert, but I did not make the rules we just follow them.DRE provides custom diapers that has become a big part of our business Thanks again for the support and remember we are all in this together.

Re: Diaper DIscussion
I bought the RCI universal fit SFI 7.2 diaper and it fits fine. I made the comment about wrestling with the diaper more from the standpoint of not ever having a diaper on any car I've ever raced before. It doesn't take long to attach it on my bb Chev. powered dragster. There is not a lot of room for any diaper, I don't care who makes it. My RCI has substantial side material. That thick material makes it a bit of a chore to get it positioned around the oil filter area and the starter on the other side.....Not a real big deal but certainly added work just to change your oil. I am not complaining as I am all for the added safety. I built another dragster after having had a Stocker for a year or two. I made it safer than my old dragster on purpose.......Longer wheelbase....2 completely seperate sets of brakes, inside the cockpit battery shutoff...and the SFI diaper.......I have had engine failures in my racing career and fortunately they never caused me to lose control of a car. Very close to tagging a guardrail once. Dragsters are fast and anything getting under a tire at 170 is going to be a real problem...The bellypan looked to be easier to install and do maintenance....and apparently falls a little short in the protection area. I'm happy with what I have.....

Once This Is Hashed Out, Check Out Nhra.com To Check Out The New Revisions To The Previous Revisions Of The Revised Rule Book For 2008, If That Makes Any Sense...

Re: Diaper DIscussion
Went to PRI show in Orlando. Spoke to several companies about making a diaper for a chevy II with factory front suspension. You know, drag link going through the center of the oil pan. DRE was the ONLY company to give me the time of day. DRE was very informative about what to do to give them the correct measurements. Within a couple of weeks it showed up and it fits like a glove. They couldn't have done a better job unless I took the car to them. Attention to detail was tremendous.

That's the way I read my book. Please advise if I am reading it wrong. PS, I have the Don Davis in my Davis 57. Fingers crossed! Bill |
Re: Diaper DIscussion
O.K. Guys here's the deal........
The 2008 Rule Book does not have the Revised Ruling regarding Oil Retention Devices. The rule was revised on 1/15/08 and is on NHRA's website. Unless you run in Top Fuel or Top Alcohol (who needs to run a 7.1) you are NOT Required to run an SFI Diaper. You are only Required to run an "NHRA Accepted" diaper which needs NO Recertification. The 7.2 is No Longer "Required" in ANY Classes! However if you already own one it is "Permitted" |
