SS/B Record

Did Pual Adams get the SS/B record at Virginia this weekend? I saw him go 8.97 with a back up of 8.99, great looking 1964 Fairlane.

Should be some great competition in S/SB. That 64 Plymouth from Ohio may have some low 90's in it. Congrats to the Blue Oval car......

Great runs Paul. TOP/SS at Bowling Green Should be great for bragging rights for Ford or Mopar fans but dont count out Brandon Wilkinsons Vette. You have to BE THERE to see this one...

Beautiful car for sure. There's a picture of Paul and the car on the D1 Website receiving the Classic Auto Body Best Appearing Car Award. Another car to watch is A.H. Adkins who isn't far off the mark either with his '69 AMX since moving from C to B.

Watch is the word. All these cars mentioned are planning on racing at Bowling Green TOP/SS meet Memorial day week end. With the long Week end this would make a great SHOW to see in person not just read about on the web. TOP/SS and TOP/STK run time trials Saturday AM and race till done Saturday afternoon evening.... What a great track to watch SS and Stk heads up racing.... Pizza Joe with a SS/BA Hemi is coming from Florida, and hoping to get Dave Thomas vette as well as ARTS vettes to run also. Ray Paquets Fairlane and AH Adkins will make this the best field yet... Hope to see you there in person.....

Thanks to Paul for his support of TOP/SS. He is wearing his shirt in the winners circle and pictures of the car. We will see the first Heads up race at Bowling Green TOP/SS May 24, 25. This makes 3 Thunderbolts actively running. Matt Dahl out west and RAY PAQUET also here in Division 3.

Tim Davis in Indianapolis is the engine builder. He can be reached at Tim Davis Racing 317-244-8370

Read about Tim at:

http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eng...als/index.html

Both Paul Adams and Tim Davis are former champions over in the fast street car groups (NMCA and NSCA). The racing there was all heads up. Kinda like...go fast or go home. A few years ago Tim ran his fast street car in Comp at the Indy Fall Classic. After a run he would drive his car to the scales and then back to the pits. Thing was he made it several rounds in eliminations. Had the Comp guys scratching there heads. Yes we pumped his engine and it was legal for the class.

Best looking Tbolt I've seen but I have a couple questions. The carb pan seems to be a fab item and I thought SS required the original baseplate or nothing. The Tbolts came with an airbox. Can pans be built for any fresh air cars and dzused on in a similar manor? Also the teardrop seems to be 1 - 1 1/2 inch taller above the opening than original. That would be hard to police since I don't know of a spec on the height.
Again, great looking car as well as killer fast for as new as it is.

Since I did not work the Indy points meet I have not seen the car in person. Should see it at Norwalk LODRS. If Dick Butler is correct about 3 T-Bolts showing up at Bowling Green Open May 24-25 running Top/SS, we will have three to compare.

Travis,
Matt Dahl is from Vegas. I do not think they are planning the trip East this season but Ray Paquet should be here. Also Dallas Kelly's Thunderbolt "Wrecking Crew" is getting along also. Completion date is not sure yet. THIS WILL BE another " Hot One" for us to watch. We need a Stick Vette to enter too. Hope Dickie Ogles is ready to run with us in Bowling Green.

Stewart,
Can't believe you would mention that with the "inline/crossram" Hemi intakes and the questionable hood scoop heights on some of the Hemi cars! LOL

Say it isn't so! Tim has always been a MOPAR guy?! LOL! I'm not surprised he is setting records. Anything built by him, that I have seen, has been fast. Congrats to Tim and the record holders! Wish I were going to the Beech...

Yea, I was a little shy about bringing the plate/scoop height up but since I'm building a GT car with a scoop, I'm trying to figure out what is legal under the scoop. On the carb issue, Chevy started it. Just kidding, but remember the old Tarantula (I think) BBC intake that turned the carb close to 45 degrees. I was a tech man then and I remember the stir it caused. Then in 94 NHRA drew the line on how much cross could be removed. 1/2 inch cross is still crossed, just not what we are used to seeing. As far as the AH scoop height, they look okay to me. Ha Ha Ha.

Stewart,
I had a friend when I was in high school that bought a 454 Corvette new in ’72 and immediately went through the motor and put a Tarantula intake on it with an 850 Holley and I thought that was one neat looking set up. It was also one wicked street car too. By the way, I bet those Hemi scoops do look okay to you!

Stewart, if he was to use the airbox with the ducting, and did his homework...I am confident the car would go faster. Also, due to its location, the larger teardrop opening is not a performance advantage.

Re: SS/B Record

Not talking about the size of the opening, its the height of the top of the teardrop. Taller allows for a taller intake. Air box could be a good setup but it would limit you on the height of the intake and most SS 2X4 cars seem to like the tunnelram type intakes.

Norwalk, Who will it be? the "HONKIN HEMI" or the "THUNDERBOLT"? Good luck with the weather. I think there might be a chevy ready for Bowling Green which will be really close too.

There are four Super "B's" at Norwalk this weekend: Tony DePillo, Paul Adams, AH Adkins and ???? (white thunderbolt) Paul ran a 9.01 into the wind with around 2500 DA (low baro). Everybody else was teens.

I talked to AH Adkins for a while Friday, he's been having tranny issues (broke his good one) and sorting out a few other issues.

Paul great to hear you got the record. Miss seeing you at the races but know you are still having fun. We were keeping up with what you were doing as we were at the NMCA race in Bowling Green that weekend and word soon spread that you had the record. You never miss a beat. Great job by a great guy.

You are right it was Ray. He was running pretty good but Paul is THE MAN in SS/B
right now and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

Paul works very hard on his racing and loves it. It will be very hard for any of the SS/B
guys to outrun him because of that. He doesn't like to get beat.

I teched Paul's Thunderbolt at the Bowling Green Hot Rod Reunion. Paul came down to enjoy the race and run with his friends in Nostalgia SS. He had the correct 4" tall teardrop hood on the car. No problem with carb to hood clearance. He did not have to alter the carbs or intake to change from the other hood.
