Praise Dyno Ceramic brake shoes
 
Has anyone used the ceramic brake shoes from the outfit in TX. called Praise Dyno? They have a kit with ceramic shoes, bigger wheel cylinders,and better springs.Hey I know I should be putting disc brakes on it.

Hey Lynn, dont bother. I put the whole kit on my car. The rear wheel cylinders leaked instantly, and the fronts blew out after the car sat for the winter. The spring kits are the same you can buy at Napa. The wheel cylinders also are the same bore size as stock or what I can buy at Napa. ( The reason I know this is that I am a counterman at a Napa part time, and I looked this stuff after I had the problems) I had to buy a set of fronts about a month ago, and bought a set of Bendix and the were the same as what this guy sold. My stopping power with the kit is no better than the best grade shoes you can buy localy. If I had to do it over I would have bought a set of shoes line with a softer material or Carbon fiber. If you have any questions contact me. I run the same kind of car you do with drums all around. It was just a big waste money and time, just my take.

Most of the GM guys use the S-10 manual brake wheel cylinders. I would suggest the 7/8" Bendix wheel cylinders (#WC37644T) or cross-reference part number. For shoes, find a brake relining company and take a set of used brakes shoes and have them put full length brake linings designed for a forklift application. They are softer and have a higher coefficient of friction. The other option is to get the soft brake linings from Cotton Performance; they are Part Number 6722-Buick.

Hey Lyn
I installed the complete kit on my 68 Camaro and couldn't be more happier. The brake system works just as they stated. I can hold the car at the line without creeping at 3000 rpm and the car stops very well. By the way I installed their system almost 3 years ago. I believe the secret to not having any kind of leakage is to always start with clean brake fluid. If you do decide to go with Praise Dyno Brakes Make sure your entire system is flushed of any old fluid.

another question. Is there a original style master cylinder for the GM A bodies that is better to use than the stock size one? thanks Lyn

I'm going on 5 years with my praise brakes and I too am very happy. I have a 69 firebird and bought the entire wheel cylinder and spring kit also. I have had no leaks and I can hold the car at 3500 plus rpms all day long. Its a tough call as going with aftermarket front discs is probably the way to go. Todds a pretty sharp guy, but mine have been hassle free for going on 5 years. Maybe its a weight thing as those A-bodys are quite a bit heavier.

Lyn, I put them on my 67 Cutlass this winter. After the first time out at Cordova I bought Willwood vented disc for the front. At 120 I was wondering if I was going to make the turnoff!:eek: Since the Willwoods I have no problem slowing down from 124mph.:) It still has the master cyl & rear brakes (ford) from Praise.

I went 135 mph last night @ 3450 lbs and made the second turn off at Englishtown. I could probably make the first if I wanted to really punish the car.

If I had to do it all over again I would buy aftermarket brakes, BUT.................. My brakes are awesome !!!!!!!
