Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Good morning boys and girls-here we are again -still in New Jersey - but two hours North of Atco . Its just like the Army here -hurry up and wait .I'm parked in row 22 spot #124 waiting to be let into the pits........its going to be a very long day !!! For those of you wondering I've taken over for Debbie , she has to work for a couple of more days (well someone in the family has to work) .
The pros are rolling in and we just watch and wave........also the rain clouds are on their way--doesn't look good as showers are forcasted for later today and tommorow . Got to visit with many friends this morning but among the "missing" are Ray Valpreda (broken engine) and John Pressing (heavy work load)----sorry guys . |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
they started at 8:30this morning. And running out of room.
|
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
2:53 EST--Just got parked.....and it started to pour .Good news is I talked my way to the West side of the track with the Pro Stockers and there is plenty of room .Don't know about tech in the rain --we'll see .Pitted next to Pudgie (Mark LaBreque from Diamond RV Sales) and he's always a barrel of laughs--he and his band of merrymen should make this weekend interesting to say the least.Gotta go find out whats' happenin'......................

Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Jack, good morning from CT.
Just looked at weather and it shows clear and about 53 degrees. No showers till about 8PM. How does that jive with real weather at the track. P.S. Its about 6:05 am. Thanks and good luck to you and everyone else. Have a safe race. |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Daniel--Like they say on TV -- "COME ON DOWN" -- its an absolutely beautiful morning here at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park -- the rains are gone and everything is drying very quick .Engines cannot be started before 10 am so there's plenty of time to drink coffee and talk about "what if ". Stock will be second out this morning and we'll get three hits at the track today along with S/S also --looks like 10:30am , 1 and 3pm , S/S is fourth so they will be at approx.11:15 am , 2:30 and 4:30 .It could be fast this morning and many racers are talking about how they will slow their rides up to protect combos against AHFS ...............if only I had a decent weather station--------soon , very soon ! ! !
On another note--during tech yesterday I had a real "Kodak Moment" and no camera -three ,count 'em three officials including our national tech director laying on the asphalt underneath my car--they must have liked everything they saw as afterwards I went on my way with no problem .Good thing as I'm trying to have fun this weekend without working hard. |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Official list not yet posted but more than 20 a second under--looks like John Shaul will be provisional #1..more after pass #2 ...........Its a lot faster than racers thought .Forget the gauges...
|
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
After the first run--John Shaul #1--Biondo #2 don't remember #3 I'm #4
Second run not yet posted--but no one wants to step up.Sounds like supergas at the 1000' mark -- blip-blip- blip and plenty of nose diving .Good news is there is no teardown ---not officially --but they haven't made a move to bring anyone in and its getting late in the day . |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Round three of qualifing got different -- Kreeber went to the top --several others moved up-- guys all of a sudden decided to go fast...not sure whats up .Sheets are very slow in coming ---Low ET of the meet so far -- Kenny Miele AA/SA 9.868...............

Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Quote overheard over dinner --"I was looking for a fork and I noticed you have some Klondike bars in your freezer - mind if I have one? Joe DeMarzo to Pudgie...........you really had to be there .
Temps really dropped tonight -its jacket and long pants weather-they're calling for low 50's -- could be very fast during 1st round tommorow and super good for the pro's at night . Rumor has it that Barry Parker is changing his engine tonight........BRRRRRR !!!!! Tonights' entertainment is either Happy Hour at the track bar or "The Bucket List" in Pudgie's coach--which sounds like more fun???? HMMMMMMMMMMM And on with the show................... |

Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Well its Friday morning and everyone can't wait for first round but its several hours away for the Stockers and S/S cars .Llike they say - its a Chamber of Commerce day here at Raceway Park with blue sky's and no cloud cover what so ever -- the start of today's activities are only twenty minutes away ! !
Turns out yesterdays rumor is true-the Parker clan did go home for another engine last night after breaking a rod yesterday and changed it in time for todays first round -kudos to them-thats stocker dedication at its best .And special thanks to Barry Parker for the "loan" of a few eggs this morning as without them some of the Diamond RV bunch would have had to go without . Last night I mentioned the temps took a dip and right now its only in the mid 60's but rising and it should be fast with little humidity and a decent barometer .This weather is very unseasonal for the "Summers" but welcomed. The Pro's will be out later but the Sportsman pits are all buzzing about Lee Zane and his Pro Stock debut --good luck to Lee and his new team --hopefully he'll get in the "show" .Later........ |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
Well here it is -- round one of Stock was anything but pretty .Some guys were faster , some were slower , some got bit by the wind , others hooked and yet some spun bigtime .Yesterday it was tough to get a .080 to .100 light and today there was a huge amount of single and double redlights.....any ideas? ? ?
Noteables-- Fletcher put out Harrington , Hartzler sent the champ home . I'd love to give you a storybook ending to the Parker saga but Barry lost by a stinkin' 2 thou (five little inches). Bummer . Worse than that his pit looked like a tornado came thru it . Runs to watch tommorow---Sabin vs Fletcher //// Ficacci vs Fletch //// Shaul has the bye More coming............. Lee Zane just ran 6.98 in his first run ever at a National event with a Pro Stock .They have work to do but a good start and the shiny side is still up . |
Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals

Re: Live from Englishtown----NHRA Supernationals
What a difference a day makes -------- this morning the temp is already 68 with the high to be in the mid eighties ------- but the humidity is 68% and will drop into the 40 % range as the day goes on but the good news is that the barometer is 30.06 and steady -------- another crapshoot in the dial-o-meter as Stock and S/S will run their second rounds late this morning followed by rounds 3 and 4 late this afternoon .As most of you know the Pro's had a field day last night with the great conditions they had but today will be a totally different story -if you didn't get in the program you surely won't today without a miracle .Our own Lee Zane made two very nice passes that were straight and true and he looked like he had been doing Pro Stock for years instead of weeks but was a little short in the horsepower department and so far is not in the show .
Another hard worker this weekend is young Bryan Valentine -- after winning first round yesterday he realized that his converter was broke and with help from his dad promply changed it, then loaded up and went to Atco last night to test . Just what us "old" guys need - another young gun looking to win this race ! Yes , I remember what its like to have fire in my belly.....Oh, the good 'ole days .....bring 'em back .As for myself I'm on to round two thank God..........later . |
