Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Or did IHRA cancel it due to lack of participation?
Thought I read something about a Pro Stock strike. |
Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Yes the IHRA race is going on in Edmonton, Alberta , canada as scheduled.... July 4 -6 .....yes rumor of prostock boycot was due to high travel costs....no prostock qualifying posted as of friday afternoon so we will wait & see who showed up afterall

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
There is but as per IHRA schedule, no qualifying for all traditional catagories but there is a King of the hill for electronic/non electric ET cars. I guess someone put a S/SS combo race that they are running today. Pros get one qualifying run today. The rest of the sportsman classes qualify tommorow. Looks like the IHRA P/S cars boycotted the race as per the qualifying results.

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Are we having a pool to guess the winners? I take Bob Bertsch to win Pro Stock and also for low ET and Top Speed. :)
You mean to say they aren't running any of the traditional IHRA classes? Stock, SS, or the .90 classes and Top Sportsman/Dragster? So it's a bracket race with a top fuel show and today they didn't even get that? |
Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
All the traditional classes are qualifying today (Saturday). From what I was told, there are approx 12 Stockers and 12 Super Stockers in attendance. I guess last night the skys opened up and the weather forcast for the rest of the weekend doesn't look great either.

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
there's probably a lot of things that dont make sense when you are not here to actually know whats going on . everything is going great here even if we had some rain. tomorrow should make for some great racing. the fans are definately supportive up here as well as the canadian racers.

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Jim,
Didn't know you were working for IHRA. I do remember you racing back in 99 when I was making a lot of IHRA races. You parked close to us at several races. I guess I missed your crossover from racer to Tech. If Hank is there tell him "Hello".... Hope you guys have a good race. |
Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Hey Jim! Glad to hear you are back at work w/ IHRA. We were all very concerned about you at MIR and hope you are doing ok...don't over-do it up there and have a good time!!!

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
For those of you who were not in attendance and seem to know everything that went on, let me take this opportunity to clarify "what really occurred."
The weather was uncooperative Friday and Saturday evening and the Pro night time qualifying sessions was wiped out on both evenings. Sunday was even worse as it rained 4 times, the last time 10 pm Sunday as IHRA had all the remaining cars in the staging lanes and a sprinkling of rain pushed the final champs from being crowned until Noon on Monday. Creasy's unfortunate track incident (the transmission turned completely around throwing sharpnel into both of Creasy's legs) forced IHRA to bring a medivac helicopter in at the top end shutdown area late Sunday which interupted the program for almost 2 hours. One sole Pro Stock car showed up from Michigan, Bob Bertsch. Good on you Bob and team! The track was packed with a full compliment of ET cars 128 plus Well over 40 Top Sportsman and Top Dragster entries (but IHRA continues to run them in a Quick 16 b*llsh*t manner, why I don't know as Castrol Raceway has developed a very stout Top Eliminator class with well over 35 members) 16 Pro Nostalgia entries (another class that doesn't even exist but seems to get better billing than the Pro Mods) were present on the grounds. Stock/ Super Stock/ and the rod classes continue to draw low numbers but when people owning class cars refuse to participate for reasons that took place 3-4 years ago, it is truly a shame. Get you head out of the sand and move on! I have endured some tough years in the "mud" at this event and with all of the parking fiascos (arrive two days prior to the event to get inside the pit gates) have managed to support this event for all of the 5 years the event has been contested. It's our only event in Western Canada of this stature other than the NHRA Mission Divisional and we must support it or we will have nothing to support! Regards, Mike Ferstl SG SR 6091 |
Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
Jim I hope to get to visit with you at the Tulsa race again this year. Maybe no rain this time since it is in August? You won't have any problems keeping warm. Bring your sun block.

Speaking of the PRI Show, we need to make sure we meet up for another dinner like last year.Since the Canadian dollar is worth more Dave can buy this year. I hope Pothole's dad can keep him from getting so drunk this time! Embarrassing. Jim

Re: Wasn't there supposed to be a IHRA National this weekend?
I would like to thank Jim alot for all the help in Edmonton as it was my first time running class and I was full of questions and I received an answer for them all. IHRA and Castrol put on a good show, I am looking forward to next year.
