The LS1 of Bo Kenny is rated @ 305 hp. Min wt 2670lbs.

Don Kennedy 07-09-2008 12:02 PM

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

By The way what is the difference between the two combinations of a LS1 Engine?? One rated at 320hp and the other rated at 305hp?

I'm just a casual fan of the GT/AA wars, but my pick:
Mike Beachy 400 Chevy> 05 Cavalier---318hp?----------??? lbs (2002 US Nationals champ)

I'll be rooting for Mike and any Mopar!

...also Glen Stahle, very fast at Indy D3 points meet in GT/AA.

Mike Beachy; he's a past champ, knows what it takes to win at Indy, and is getting that new Cavalier straightened out...

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

Beachy is fast. Andy Fogle is fast. Glen is fast That will be 12 cars! Is that Ford coming? That would be 13. Way cool, this is what SS is all about!

Don , as far as I know , the 325/324 rated LS1 is for the Super Stock application in the Firebird Formula with the WS6 Ram Air hood . My car with a "flat hood" is rated at 305 . My money is on the Bo Kenney car being the quickest ...any takers ?

Jeff,

It is usually 2500 feet corrected or worse except that year Katrina effects were up here. So they can stay on the pedal for a bit! ;)!

Someone said that there is a difference on each combo with the air inlet throttle size ? Is this true and what are the sizes if it is??

casper 07-09-2008 03:19 PM

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

Are you refering to the air inlet on the hood ? if so , then yes , the WS6 hood has the "nostrils" , so-to-speak , that would allow more air in , but not sure how much hp is there .... The current stock hp ratings are now that the "flat" hood combination is rated at 369 hp vs. the WS6 hood at 364 hp .. go figure.

I'm still fairly new to this 4th gen stuff , but trying to learn as much as possible . You buy those Michelins yet ?

Lynn, please tell me where you get your entry lists. I went to the NHRA website at 3:23 P.M. Eastern Time and printed the Indy S/S entry list and there are only 21 cars on it; beginning with #21 SS/JA Jerry Holman, and ending with #799J SS/AH John Rains. I would love to have the updated info that you have; I will really appreciate it if you could tell me where you obtain it.

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

Looks like Frank Grossi has the combo to beat. 100 cu in more than the 350's and less weight. That will be hard to overcome. The 400 chevies also look good. I have been told the make equal HP on the dyno as the 350 and have more torque plus less weight. The 350/295/327 seems to have been factored out of the top spot due to the HP hits it has taken over the past two years. Those guys have been flogging that combo very heavy. We will soon see what they have left. Good luck guys.

GT cars dont get Ram Air unless the engine originally had Ram Air and at the same time the new car had some kind of Ram Air. I dont think a Cobalt has Ram Air so he cant run it. That is the bitch about a GT car. If he had a Grand Am he could.

Isnt there a big difference on the throttle bodies of the LS-1's? I know I put a RA hood on my wife's 99 TA and did nothing else, and the performance difference was like night and day. I changed nothing else.

You have to be a participant to get into the entry list?

Remember people can change classes from the entry list, so it isnt cast in stone.

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

The 325 and 310 rated LS1 for the Pontiac Firebird are the same engine , just rated differently for the hood application .The LS1 Camaro is rated at 310 for the same year. Same throttle body , same everything ... it's all there in the NHRA blue print specs .

My bet on who will be the fastest is that Red Cavalier out of Norway, SC- Andy and Johnny Fogle. Don't know if they will win but I don't think there will be any faster than their Guilius Bullett!

I think I have heard that Grossi is stuffing a 454 combo into that Sunfire.

The 454 combo is a 1975 engine . It's factored to 325 in GT. Looks like the small port head is 45 hp less .
Sounds like the truck motor in a passenger car. I wonder how they designated the difference back then, or did they? Maybe it is a superceded truck head.

Higgins and Caro were in the final of SS/BM and Brandon won the whole race last year I believe. Also I thought that you could not put a big block into a FWD conversion GT car? Did they change this rule or was there never one.

That black car is a beast, that was a damn good race last year between those two in the SS/BM finals.
If Jeff gets in that car at Indy I'm calling Vegas to place my bet on him.

Re: GT/AA Class War At Indy

Great to see a class regain popularity with a high car count again. Only draw back is the fact so many motors make it unlikely factoring will be easy the first few years they all run. Probably will result in a shift away from the 350 if the FI or 454 are anything special. Nose wt of 454 will probably be the achilles heal if it is factual combination. Class should be fun unless the factoring turns out to be WAY OFF. Good Luck
The class was tremendous when only 454 oval and 454 Rectangular port ran. They were VERY closely factored to even. 7 or 8 great cars and great drivers made it fun..to run in that class.

Okay Lynn, Reread the post, HA HA. No I didnt limit the combos I described the situation at the time. I love a variation even better if it were in Brand names. Tom Decamp had a great GT/AA at one time but I think it would not hold up.
You tell me how long YOU think it will take to level the combos based on AHFS speed. The 350 may be close to even with the 454 Rectangular now. We'll see how it works... Should be a great class.
