After the hit the old Charger took, it looks like its time to get the old truck out.

Re: Qualifying Change

So how do you get a 128 car field when you only allow an 80 car entry? Going back to the all car entry, 128 car field would make a little more sense. It works at the Sports Nationals. Jim

Should read : The eliminator will consist of 10 second Camaros and Firebirds and a few other oddball combos.

Re: Qualifying Change

I guess there will be a few people backing out of Indy this year. It's the only Nat'l that has a full field, except for Belle Rose Sports Nats.Wonder who instigated the change?

Re: Qualifying Change

yea, that will make people want to go race , go .7 or .8 under, win class and GO HOME !

Re: Qualifying Change

Some will like it some will not. Check out last year prior to bumps and then after class bumps. This also could change because some that did not have to run hard in class because of bump ins, now will have to do so if they can to make sure that they get in.

Re: Qualifying Change

Now the " Paper Cars" are in everyones class. All of a sudden the big camshaft; the aluminum heads; the bigger valves; the larger carb; the smaller crank pin; the specal rods; and the elderbrock heads affect us all. Let us not forget the cars that were never produced: 1998 LT1 Camaro, Firebird, Nascar Hemi, and the one carb 428 1967 Shelby.
Contact your stock/ super stock representative, Division Director, Tech. Department, and request that the items that have been added be removed and that the cars that never were made be deleted!.

Re: Qualifying Change

Larry -- That's a great idea but the train has already left the station .Think about it --would you or I want it to happen if we owned one of "those" cars .........probably not .With last years bump at Indy in Stock being -.86 under is it going to make a huge dent -- I don't think so .

Re: Qualifying Change

Still does not address class runoffs with an odd number of cars!! Who gets the BYE -- every division is different. It needs to be in there. Some give it to the fastest qualifier some flip quarters. NHRA says flip for it depending on what division the race is at. I have been the fastest and didn't get the bye.

Re: Qualifying Change

Jack, It's easy: put the correct front clip on the LT1 cars, add the second carb to the Shelby 428, and use the correct engine in the Dodge.
Things that are wrong-- fix. Rods have a service life-- rods can be like seat belts -a 2 year life. If not a service life give us all the big Chevy rod, not just the Fords and the Pontiacs. All combinations without a current replacement head get Eldelbrock heads or every one uses stock castings. No Dove F-5 heads. Camshafts Stock lift or "The optional .527 lift"
Now is the time to get this fixed, or everyone should get to use the gifts that only a few have now.
Remember the big hood all the 68-72 Corvettes had? They took it away and got the cars correct. It can be done.

Larry -- Great ideas but where do you stop? How far back do you want to go ? Junior Stock -or- should we try "Pure Stock" again ? I personally liked "pure" but tech was hell ...........

Re: Qualifying Change

Daran, it's real simple. Find an old pack of playing cards and put just a few pairs of assorted numbers in your glove box along with the Joker, that one's for the bye if you need it.
Been in a few situations where it helps to have a non-partisan person do the shuffling though, I just love the word JOKER though, LOL
What I find is, going from division to division is if you tell the staging control guys that you've got it handled, they'll actually appreciate you once and a while !!!!!!!!

If you're the fastest why worry? If you lose you only have yourself to blame. It's good to have some pressure in class runoffs, makes you a better racer as far as mindset for later rounds.

Re: Qualifying Change

Daran, I think this is how it goes. All the racers involved have to agree on how it will be done. Fastest car , flip,or pick from a hat .IF they cant agree,go to the staging lanes official , and he will decide. This is how it has been done at Indy for the last few years.

Other than making you feel better, exactly how do you think that will change qualifying?

Re: Qualifying Change

Gump,1998 cars go through the air better than the early ones do, also I believe the spoiler is lower. This gives the driver the ability to stop the clocks with front spoiler instead of the front tires improving E.T. Whoever raced Jeff Hefler always had to judge the spoiler instead of the front wheel.
Kenny, I cant beat Santa Clause so I just give up. See'Ya at Indy!!!

Larry -- You've got your facts wrong -- Any Camaro or Firebird 93 to 2002 can change its ride height in a matter of minutes .(Well maybe more than a couple of minutes but you get my meaning )..throw some small tires on the front and waa-la.........its very low in the front ! !

Jack,

You beat me to it!

How about sharing some pictures of the GTO suspension.

Take Care,
