08 Challenger Race
Did anyboby tell Garlets that he was racing Judy Lilly to the 1320 foot stripe? He had her .08 at the 1000.but lost by .2 at the finish.

Re: 08 Challenger Race
You gotta remember what classes they use to run and what their respective class track distances are starting with the Mile High Nationals! lol
Garlits ran Top Fuel and Judy Lily ran in the Sportsman classes. (Did she try Pro Stock one year?) Is that ALL you're going to tell us??? Any actual ET's or package car info? |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
I think there will be more released this week on the new package. Should be fun. We opened in July 68, and the cars were already made. Looking forward to racing three or four of them.

Re: 08 Challenger Race
They ran low 11's. Don't know which motor was there. More than one available.
|
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Judy Lilly ran 11.38,Don Garlits ran 11.24.
|
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Sorry but I was watching it live on the track's realtime web site and I guess the operator had the names crossed up. So Judy must have shut off at the 1000 as the car only ran about 106 while the other car ran 125 or so. Anyway the car that lost was .08 ahead at the 1000.
Jeff, did anybody order one from you yet? Greg |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
A video was posted on moparts.com. But I can't make out what the scoreboards show.

Re: 08 Challenger Race
Jeff-
It seems like there was a LOT of TV advertising for the "Drag Race Package" Challenger. I spotted at least 5 or 6 ads during the ESPN2 coverage and one more on another ESPN2 show. Way more than for selling only 100 or so cars. When you get more information on this I am sure a lot of us would like to know what they really have planned. Thanks! Bill Ringer SS/FA 5750 |

Re: 08 Challenger Race
That 11.24 is 10.57 corrected, not too bad
|
Re: 08 Challenger Race
I was there. There was NOTHING on the score boards at all, they announced that if you want to know what they ran, you had to go buy one. Nice. Oh, and Judy DEFINATELY shut it off. They both kind of pedaled at the end, but Judy by much more. I was standing just past the 1000' mark on the hill.
I think maybe Garlits was supposed to "win"? No clue. But it was strange. They sure sounded good on the burn outs. Nice cars really. Kandra |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
I hope for you racers' sakes that the dealers don't hurt you too awful bad with their markups...check out the treatment this *normal* Challenger got...nothing like a $30k right off the bat! :p

I see this car was built for 'Darrel Lopez'............... |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
The guy that posted the pictures said the deal with the person that ordered it fell through, and the dealership called him to come take a look at it...?

Re: 08 Challenger Race
The 2008/2009 SRT 8 Hemi Challengers and the "package" race cars, like Judy Lilly and Don Garlirs ran, are two totally seperate vehicles. The run showed the race-only version, which is similar to the '68 Hemi Cudas and Darts. I haven't seen any "official" specs or pricing on them.

Re: 08 Challenger Race
There is a thread on Moparts.com...supposedly low to mid 30's will be the price.

As for dealers, I get the impression that they will not be involved with the sale of the race car packages. They are only suppose to go to racers who will actually race and promote the product/brand. Just speculation at this point, but dealers would not have much control if a street enthusiast or car collector would want one. But dealers would make a good drop-off point unless one has to go to Detroit, or wherever, to pick them up. I believe bodies-in-white also had special proceedures and contacts. |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Judy was .08 quicker at the 1000 so she would have ran a 11.16 or faster. corrected to sub 10.50.

Re: 08 Challenger Race
I don't think they are going thru dealers. I think some service will handle them. About 35K depending????.
Not street legal. Only for racing. The sticker on this thread is for one of the 2008 SRT8 cars which we sell for window sticker. Lots of brokering going on. Several motor/trans pkges. Look for more info now that the unveiling has taken place. Gonna be fun. Lots of interesting specs. |

Re: 08 Challenger Race
Bargain priced if they sell as advertised. Low to mid $30's? That's what their saying. 6.1L, 5.7L or 5.9 Magnum engines with manual or auto trans. With all the work on these cars, I can't imagine MOPAR's making any money on them. Sure the racer will have to spend more to get it competitive, but I still say it's a bargain. I predict an easy 650 HP on a stocker 6.1L. What happened to the 392 Hemi supposedly offered?

Re: 08 Challenger Race
Anyone else notice the "Chrysler Motors L.L.C." on the sticker?
Is everything Chrysler Motors L.L.C. now, or is this a spinoff corporation to insulate the rest of the corporation from this activity, as well as the non-safety rated disclaimer, and the obvious C.A.F.E. standards hit these cars would cause? |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Chrysler Motors LLC,since they dumped the Benz boys.
|
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Who do you contact?
And when can you order these cars? |

Re: 08 Challenger Race
on mopar.com it looks like there will be an 800 number to call posted sometime in august to order one
would be cool to actually buy this car for what chrysler wants to sell it and not some crazy markup dealer price |
Re: 08 Challenger Race
Those are the only two that are currently built. There are zero plans to build anymore at this time. If they do end up making them everham (sp?) will likely end up with them to finish off putting in the fuel cells and electrical pieces. Right now, it's simply a PR move.
