Martin Michigan Northern Nationals - Results, Pictures, etc.
 

Congrats to Michael Lyons for winning Super Stock at Martin Michigan yesterday, he defeated Bobby Rashid. Also, congrats to Nick Folk who won in Stock over Steve Foley.

Our boy Homer Carty was runner up in his Super Stocker in the Moser Axel Mania race, which was ultimately won by Danny Waters, JR who was racing his Quick Rod dragster.

I only took 107, haven't been feeling well and the heat didn't help matters. Here are a few of my picks though....and I appologize for not knowing a lot of your names, I'm not from around there (ha ha) - so if anyone wants to post driver names for these pictures feel free.

Angela- thanks for all your photos of the stockers and super stockers. They are great, the first thing everyone that participated in that race did was to look for their race car. I was driving my F/CM white 69 Camaro # 3455 to a class win while friend and partner Don Holben was driving his #3006 black 1997 Firebird C/FIA to a class win. It was a long weekend for a lot of racers and my drive home was only 45 minutes. I think I read on another website that your drive was 14 hours. THANKS FOR THE S/SS photos, I think every s/ss fan likes to look at them also, from all the drag strips, SO KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, WE APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORTS.

Thanks Phil for the encouraging words - I really love taking the pictures. You guys are lucky to live 45 miles from that track - it is EXTREMELY smooth according to Scott, like racing on a sheet of glass. Definately in the top 5 of nicest tracks we've raced at - right up there with VMP, Bristol and Norwalk. Our trip was actually only 12.5 hours up and 13 back - we had to make a few more stops on the way back.

Great pics Angela. thanks a bunch for sharing some of them from Martin. It is nice to get a glimpse of what is going on there for those of us that actually couldn't make it to the race. Seeing the different cars from that area and what the track looks like makes me want to put it on my schedule for next year. Keep it up!

Jack - DRC tells me its Gerry Gostenik from Dearborn MI, '61 Bel Air. I noticed the car too - reminds me of my Dad's 62 Impala, don't see a lot of either of those body styles in class racing or bracket racing for that matter either.

Angela, your photos are really great! Especially considering that you would be termed an amateur, not a pro photographer.(I'm assuming you haven't worked as a professional). I prefer your shots over the so-called pros. Two reasons; we get to see cars that are not usually on the 'pro' sites, and you actually capture the racecar's image. Not the same-old, same-old frontal wheelstand shots showing a nice unobstucted view of the lower control arms, oil pan, header collectors, and front valance panel. Keep 'em coming, please.

Around '64 I bought a '61 Belair bubbletop just like the one above, black w/ white stripe. It had a blue interior instead of red. 348/305HP(juice lifters) stick car. I was just embarking on the long road of throwing every disposable nickle at cars and drag racing. But, then came that brief letter from Uncle Sam that starts with 'greetings'. Sigh; just wish there had been more of those 'nickles' over the years.

Thanks Angela for posting the pictures. It is great to see Stock and Super Stock cars. The body styles and paint jobs make it a car show! You do a great job of showing us (who stay home) what we missed! Keep the camera snapping.

Hey Angela wish i could have been at Martin Mi for the big nat. race and the Moser shootout...(holla at my boiy Homer for the big R/U)heard there was some drama at the race wish i could have been there to help...heard bout a few crazy runs and time slips...i enjoyed all the pictures you took makes me feel like i diidn't miss a whole lot..ive got bout 5 blown up already in frames..well see yall this weekend Big Pete

Nice job. Only problem is , it runs D,E,and F /Stock, not G.

Again, I have to ask:
Don't they check the class guide @ IHRA? Especially with a new combo...
