Doug Linke GT/MA DQ'D ?

Anyone know why Doug Linke was dq'd at maple grove. He was number one qualifier.

Thanks Travis sounds like there was a decent tech inspection. I hope this will become the norm (again). If something is found in the tech line you have some time to correct it. In the barn it is to late.

so how long is the suspension for THAT?

If you race in D3 it is the norm.

[QUOTE=Travis Miller;79783]The others in teardown were GT/JA Michael Volkman, SS/AM Paul Ricci, SS/AM Jeff Tripp, SS/AM Brad Plourd, and SS/BM Jay Higgins. Everyone including the modifieds had to pull a head and all passed.[QUOTE]

Travis...could you explain the reasoning and purpose of pulling a cylinder head in a Modified Class engine?

1. To measure the bore and stroke in order to calculate the cubic inch
2. To measure the bore center spacing dimension.

Page 168 (Section 10F - Modified) of the 2008 NHRA rulebook under ENGINE, 4th sentence reads: "OEM bore center spacing mandatory."

There are even Comp classes where OEM bore center spacing applies. Many other classes have a ruling on bore center spacing dimensions including Pro Stock, Funnycar, and Top Fuel. Those dimensions are measured with the cylinder head removed.

Travis

(Disclaimer: Opinions expressed by me on this forum are exactly that, my opinions.)

So...do you guys gave up on pumping the engine for CID measurement? Do not get me wrong, I am not being a critic; I like your new approach. Will there be any enforcement for those using the Aurora block, GM P/N 24502650? (a.k.a. Pro Stock Truck Class block - 8.1" Deck and requires an adapter for its use with a GM pattern bellhousing)

poor travis...

just trying to do his job... and explain to the CUSTOMERS what and why goes on in tech and SHAZAAM his nuts are in the nutcracker again, and his keyboard belongs to his bosses...

travis (and a few others) really try to do thier job, be fair and follow the rulebook... however he is continually overridden by the powers to be...

i wonder if he will even bother to throw out anyone at indy... he is about 2 for 7 last 2-3 years

You guys are quick to jump the gun. Who said or how do you know he was reprimanded by the Administrator of this site? He could had been reprimanded by his management at NHRA.

I don't really think the administrator here got after Travis. He's got no reason at all to do that. I figure it was NHRA, and that's a shame. There are few things the sport needs more than STRAIGHT TALK.

"Anyone know why Doug Linke was dq'd at maple grove. He was number one qualifier"

What is the answer to this question?

CycloneFE, you can not be serious. Do your really think I would edit Travis thread?

Before you accuse me of editing someone's thread, how about emailing me first.

CycloneFE, you are out of line. If you do not like the way this site is run, feel free to not participate. Its one thing to disagree with the rules of Class Racer, but to accuse me of editing threads is going to far.

If you would have read the bottom of Travis's post, you can see he is the one that edited his posts.

I would usually just email a member if there are issues, but I think I needed to address you in the forum.

Re: Doug Linke GT/MA DQ'D ?

Admin,

My apologies to the readership. I was out of line. I reread Travis' post and he himself edited it. While it did not say who was doing the reprimand, I made an on-line faux pas.

I do not disagree with any of the policies, but I was just posing a "what if situation". Since the situation never occurred, my post is moot.

You seem a little offensive after several of the other threads that have been on here and you have shown a lot of tolerance with them as I applaud you, but, as you pointed out that I could have e-mailed you first, you also could have done the same to me.

When I make a mistake, I admit it, as I am doing publicly.

Again, my apologies.

Your Apologize is not necessary, although it is appreciated. I do agree that its best to use email to resolve issues such as these. I did not email you because I felt I needed to address this issue in the forum.

All I ask is, if any members have issues with Class Racer or me personally, they email me first. In most cases I am sure I will be able to answer your questions.

If you are doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear. If you are, and people find out, OH WELL.

Keep up the good work Travis.

He wasn't doing his job he was fishing. The fish just weren't biting at the time and he was just honest enough to not "bait" his hook. Just because you were doing nothing wrong dosen't mean you can't be arrested, charged and convicted based on the fact that the officer "thought" he "smelled" something. Thats good enough for most judges. But I do understand your analogy.

Now back to Travis. Travis Miller is probably one of the BEST if not THE BEST that a sanctioning body could ask for in a tech person. I read his posts in this thread and saw nothing out of line. I can see how all these violations (that caused a competitor to be DQ) occured based on the fact rules are not ALLOWED to be applied fairly in every instance. Travis is interested enough to come on these boards and explain how tech is applied and answer questions and apparantly gets chewed out by someone. My guess is because someone in SS/Mod is running a different bore spacing and got their feelings hurt. I have seen it so I know its out there and has been for quite some time. A future rule change/enhancement will most likely come from this. Probably benifit a few and cost many. I will say one thing in closing. The last times I had an official actually figure my weight and class at a race ,was done by Travis. The times before that my racecar was sitting on a rollback on the backside of a mall (in tech line) at the real Sportsnationals.
