Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Good morning and I can't believe my eyes --- not only is it a beautiful sunny day but as I'm writing this the tractor is dragging the track in preparation for today -- at 7AM -- who would believe it ! ! Its a little chilly (high 50's) but will warm up fast according to the weatherman and the outlook for the entire weekend is terrific with no rain (or any other stuff) in sight .

Racers are now pulling in the gates searching for that elusive perfect pit spot that they should have taken last night -- me , well lets just say I got a great stall near "Uncle Buck" and his portable Bar-b-q pit so I can watch him prepare his next masterpiece .

Like always -- And on with the show......................

PS--Hey Pudgie -- looks like your missing another great race weekend .

Hey Jack,
Good luck at Cecil County. I am hoping to be live from Bowling Green tomorrow. The engine and transmission are in the Cuda. Just have to get the fenders and front end on and all the interior pieces in. After being down for 6 years, the Cuda has become quite a project. We hope to get a time trial tomorrow and then 1st round and hopefully they will have test and tune on Monday before going on to Indy. We will be "Live from Indy", but not til either Monday night or Tuesday, if all goes well.

Just out of curiousity (assuming John was tearing down for the record), how did he set the record at 11.74? Peter Boslovitch set the K/SA record last weekend at 11.57.

Bob-- After some checking it turns out you're right -- must have slipped thru the NHRA cracks - I'm sure Mr.Wareheim won't be pleased -- thanks for the heads-up..........

Sorry to be bearer of bad news. I know I sure would be pissed if I torn down for nothing.

Bob--I've learned that you can't ever shoot the messenger........

Prostreetbird---Here's some .90 news that I heard at Uncle Bucks' Bar-b-q tonight - some friends were busting a certain SuperGas racers stones tonight after he took the third time trial - be he wiped the smirks off their faces when he told them he went .010 and a .90 with an 0.............no names here please -- SuperGas guys are a proud bunch .And Jesus they can cook..............

Jack Matyas 08-23-2008 11:38 AM

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

We just got our final pass a few minutes ago - weather is at the most a hundreth or so better -- final sheets not out yet but it shouldn't change a bunch -- with the exception of a couple of cars that came in overnight .Final eliminations set to start in about 2 hours as they are behind because of a Super/Street big time blowup right down broadway . Car count as we thought not terrific -- this gas thing better get fixed fast .More when I get it...............

Jack Matyas 08-23-2008 12:57 PM

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Just got all the paperwork in --20 stockers came in overnight (86 total) -wow- but here's the skinny- between Stock and the other catagories the car count isn't bad--people just are working that extra day to pay for things .On to the race--heard a new phrase this morning that I wish I could steal but I must give credit to my friend Evan Smith for it-- "Double Heads-up" -in round one (and stay with me here) Andersen and Christ will race each other both in H/SA-- right below them on the ladder are Eyring and Pires who are also in H/SA -so with two heads-up there will be a heads -up in round two --whew ! Also heads-up will be Bardecoff and Parker --should be worth the price of admission ----for those of you who like long handicaps try this AA/SA of Sabin will wait for the green while the U/SA of Ziegler goes off a long way ...And lets not forget our #1 quailfier (Gene Monahan) who can't catch a break ---even number of cars -- no bye for him !! ! !

And did I mention that Bubba Linke -- also in H/SA -- is on the same side of the ladder a couple of spots up ! !

Jack Matyas 08-23-2008 05:28 PM

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

First round had its surprises but none more than the contest between Parker and Bardecoff heads-up--Parker won on a holeshot effort after Bardecoff had a comatose .188 light .Other heads-up races -- Christ over Andersen ------Pires over Eyring ---- and Ziegler went red against Sabin . Other noteables include Fetch out -- the skipper gone--Supka is history ---bubba outta here--and last but not least the champ is now out .

Lets talk about who's still in --Zane looking good warming up for Indy ----Ficacci hanging tough -- Happy Harry hanging in from being dead last -- whole bunch of ladies still around including Wendy ,little Jeanie ,Allison, and Katie ...............

Super/Stock will run tonight yet --- but when ?????

Hey Jack, how fast did Ziegler U/SA go?

Jack Matyas 08-24-2008 08:01 AM

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

With the Sun coming up over Cecil County Dragway it looks like we're going to be treated to another beautiful day to race .Eliminations are slated to start in just under two hours and after everyone got in round one last night they'll be ready to start again this morning .Besides being sunny the temp is already in the mid 60's with a little rise in the barometer and the dew should burn off by race time .

Watching a great many rigs pulling out this morning who lost last night - I'm sure they were anxious to get on the road -- you guys in D3 -- well lets just say that the D1 "troops" have started their march to your ground and will continue coming across the eastern part of the country ............Sure wish I could be serving under Generals Biondo , Fletcher , Zane, etc. as there will be many "Class Wars" to be fought before the show at the "Big Go" . Good luck boys ..............Opps --- boys and girls ! ! !

Alan-- Not sure how fast Ziegler went but he was dialed 14.14 and told me he would have run out anyway if he didn't go red.

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Sorry I haven't posted more but for a Sunday I've been plenty busy - yeah, I 've heard all the blind squirrel stories but it doesn't matter a bit -- we're down to twelve cars and I'm still in --who would believe it -- gotta go -- later

PS-- The Ladies are still hanging in ............

Re: Live from Cecil County-NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Thanks gang - I really had a great time this past weekend -- ate some great food , drank some "Ice" , and made a few new friends -- what more could a guy ask for -- not much except for maybe running the final round over .Don't know where I found time to race as there was plenty to do all weekend and lots of folks to do it with .Any success I had is due to hard work by my team members and especially my partner Bill Myers .Also I must thank Tommy Goldman and his GAS Racing Shop -- last week he helped me to a "Best Appearing" award and now a R/U finish -- maybe there is something to his saying I should hang around the S/Gas guys more .(and thanks "Uncle Buck" for the use of your truck-suddenly "I've got Crabs" has new meaning) ..we'll see . At my age all of this is really big........But I have to admit that when I got home Sunday night I was one pooped little doggie...............

PS-- Our GTO and I are finally bonding but I can't wait to drive our 'Bird again -- Scaz tells me it will be done soon and promises it will be fast ! ! !
