B/SA Supremacy

I noticed that the class run offs in the B/SA was quite entertaining. Throughout the last couple of years I have seen the posts about the "Blue Oval" car. You know, that car that people say is a "letter from the builder" car, and how it is not supposed to be legal, but NHRA says it is. Then there is the "Bowtie" clan that probably have more entries in B/SA than any other brand, and alot of them very fast. Now, this West Coast Camaro shows up and runs quicker at Indy than the others and wins B/SA. Then some people say the Ford could have run faster, has run faster, but did not that day. The East coasters are in shock that it was a West coaster and not an Eastern or Southern car. Meanwhile, a B/SA Dodge is for sale from a Charlie Smith on the West coast that is the record holder, which his ET is almost a tenth quicker than any B/SA runs at Indy.

So, who really is the quickest B/SA

Ron Ortiz
U/SA faster than a B/SA car in another dimension.

Charlie Smith's car is now in Division 6, with new Canadian owners.

You may be right. But on that day the chevy was king!

It was nice to see someone give the ford a run for the money!

GREAT RACING TO BOTH TEAMS!

Jeff, I agree. I sure hope people dont think someone would bring a car to INDY to run 2nd . Seems pretty weak...Id rather give credit to the winners and make it REALLY attractive to be #1 not begin discussing how great some one coulda gone if they tried to be fast...B/SA looks like the class to be in STOCK. Real TOP/STK racing.

I think that 2 of the best B/SA cars in the country raced each other in the class final at Indy.
The numbers they put down in those conditions were awesome.
Congratulations to both drivers and both engine builders on a great race.

Guys,
Don't forget to look at C/SA. You may find the fastest B/SA in the country is running in C/SA right now.

Dick,
There were a lot of racers that chose to bag a little at Indy.

Greg Hill 09-04-2008 09:43 AM

Re: B/SA Supremacy

Bruce, I can tell you this there was no one bagging in the final of B/SA. That was the best race I saw all week at Indy.

Greg

Greg,
The racers that I posted about were not in the B/SA final. Most of us understand that the B/SA final was an all out race.

if you go to indy and do not bring your best

the indy winners are the fastest in the country

that says it all!!!!

Re: B/SA Supremacy

Vic, Amen! Anyone can buy shoe polish to race. But winning Class at Indy "Priceless" It takes alot more than money to win INDY class.

I belive Hawk's heads are a space-age combination of creative writing and paper mache. But, I could be wrong.

I was wondering the same thing. Not being a Ford guy, I really dont know what this combo consists of. Which parts makes it "paper" instead of factory.

Re: B/SA Supremacy

390 type Edelbrock alum. head, small valves, with on LARGE 850 cfm holley is what he runs and its what makes it a "PAPER" combo but so what ! Its what the NHRA allows such as fuel cells, replacement alum. heads with different exhaust ports on 396 chebbies, wheelie bars, acid or media blasted ported heads, aftermarket rods with chevy rod bearing size, small lite auto trans, aftermarket stick trans, and on and on. Get over it. Its NHRA,s ball park so ya gotta play by NHRA's rules. Stock died in 1985 with the cam and spring rule change.

I believe the fastest is sitting in South Dakota That is where the record is at.

This was not a record setting pass for the Sorensens or Jimmy. It was a heads-up run and the corrected altitute at the track was probably around 2000+ feet.

i believe as it stands an older gentleman in south dakota holds the record

Re: B/SA Supremacy

The air was around 3000 ft, barometer was 28.49. I'm sure if the Sorensen's want to set the record, they can.

It's too bad National Records don't PAY---even Pts..........I think you would see a few more people throwing up big numbers and evening out combo's.

You are correct. It was never the intention of my initial post to create a pissing match with a few that tend toi act like little kids and WAS NOT trying to detract from the great racing accomplishments of the Koppien family.

Mine was an observation based in the fact that it was a good match between two outstanding racers and that I believe, by the sound of the engine in the top end, that the Sorenson's could have gone quicker in the particular run. Nothing else. I will bet that if the Sorensen's had gone faster than the record in the particular run against Jimmy, all the Chevy racers would be bashing him for going fast.

Re: B/SA Supremacy

SSDiv6 You are right. I was standing on the starting line when the Sorensen-Defrank race went down. All you have to do is look at Sorensens speed and see there was some left in the bag. I am here to tell you it was .15-.20 slower than a good sea level pass. The evil green camaro is a 10:0something player in B/SA trim!!
