Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Could someone please post the specific rule differences between the two sanctions? I have no NHRA rule book handy at the moment......thanks a lot.

what you want to know Dave?

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
What do I need to change on my IHRA car to pass tech at an NHRA event? The rules are different; I don't have an NHRA book for comparison.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Dave I can't think of a thing...Hp maybe rated differant. Also they check fuel @ every race, so you need a fuel check valve. Shoot me a private message if you have question about one thing.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
I was looking for areas of differentiation like battery location, fuel tank/cell, radiator type, categories that my unreliable memory of the NHRA book tells me are potentially different. I think the HP factor is the same for my combination.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Radiator or driveshaft rule may be different. I believe IHRA permits aluminum radiators and maybe driveshafts, whereas NHRA does not. What about the 2 step switch? Two step must be pedal activated in NHRA.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
The two-step rule is the same and I have stock type rad and driveshaft....thanks Joe.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Dave all the stuff like that are the same. Engine wise the only thing I can think of is pistons...IHRA says stock appering top...& NHRA ...well ...not that simple ;) Good luck!

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Greg & Joe, thanks for replying; I'm still hoping that someone will have a rule book from each organization and post the differences....more concerned with details unrelated to the engine. I can chase down an NHRA book next week but it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and the "Cup" race hasn't started yet!!

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Other rules include; roller rockers are not allowed in NHRA unless OEM, Battery must be mounted in the front in NHRA (although a second battery is allowed in the trunk). The 2-step must function on the brake/clutch pedal.

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
I agree with what everyone else said. I don't believe the alum radiator and alum srive shaft are legal in NHRA and the roller rockers (unless factory) aren't either. There have been several arguments on this forum regarding that.
as far as pistons, I would figure most IHRA racers probably have what is in the NHRA guide. I would be suprised if that many don't. NHRA no longer separates fuel injected cars out either. They run with the original classes. What kind of car do you have? |

Re: Stock Rules - NHRA vs IHRA
Don't forget you have to run the 9inch rear tire for NHRA, you can run the wider 10.5 I think for Ihra.
Check the HP rating on NHRA's website, IHRA doesn't follow their increases, but does follow the decreases. You will also get the blueprint specs casting #'s. Case in point, my 96 dakota is 276HP for NHRA, 260HP for IHRA. Eric Quote:
