The guy is a complete idiot and has not one clue about drag racing. He makes Mike Dunn look like a genius!
Why they don't have Bob Frey in there is beyond me?

well, I guess that's one vote, THANKS Jim! and Adam and Danny too!

Herb, was that last post from the department of redundency department?

Personally,

My thought (back when I was part of the team) was Frey & Dunn on the TV show. Frey has mountains of stat's, so that would free up Lewis Bloom to rejoin the announcing team, which at that time could have been Alan, Lewis and myself.

TV show would have been covered with 2 knowledgable gents that work very well together, and put Reif & Kiernan on the remotes for end of track and pit coverage.

Announcing staff would then have been covered with 3-4 guys (add Leo in there too) that love the sport and, DANG, just think of what they could have had.

But, it's obvious they never asked me, so, I'll just keep my thoughts to myself.......

Unk

PS, the days that I had to work with Mac & Steve were priceless,,,,,, and certainly days I'll never forget!

Unk I have never met you, but I think it was you interviewing Randy Lajoie 2 years ago at Rockingham with a comment about the Goodyear Blimp. At Piedmont we have the Big Dog Shootout the first Thursday of every month April through Oct. If you are ever in the area and need some extra gas money let me know. We would love to have you at Piedmont Dragway.

I have to agree with Herb,he has no clue that he has no clue. The Hot Dog eating championships would be a good place for Page.Steve and Mac were the best, everytime I think of them I start missing Buster too.The good old days.Mike Dunn does a good job and would probably be better if he didn't have to work with an idiot.Bob Frey,Unk,Reif,Olson,Kepner.Guys that can talk the talk and know what they're talking about.

Unk, you sure made the IHRA national even here at Tulsa better than last year. Don't know who was anouncing last year, there were two. They screamed and squealed like two little girls. The most anoying, unprofessional mess I ever had to listen to. There was a lot of laughing and shaking of heads in the staging lanes.

If I have interpreted your quote correctly, you don't seem to think too highly of Mike Dunn. As one of a very few drivers who have won a National event in both Nitro categories; he brings a technical perspective to the broadcasts that only someone with his experience could bring. Remember, he is not the announcer, he is the analyst. Paul Page, the announcer, is an incompetent idiot; how he retains his job is a complete mystery to me.

Dunn is fine (although I get tired of his continuous lobbying for a ride). I thought his interview at Indy with Snake, Force & Johnson was the best part of the whole show. I was more trying to convey what an imbecile Page is.

Remember that NHRA foots the bill for all production costs and the airtime....I sure hope Page is working cheap.

They could tap into Bob doing the P.A. announcing and it would be a huge step up.

I think Mike Dunn is the best announcer/analyst in motorsports broadcasting today, although I gotta give Mike Joy a very honorable mention (he does a good job at Barrett-Jackson too).

I really miss Steve Evans, not just because he was fantastic as a reporter/analyst, but I think he truly loved sportsman drag racing and realized that it is the backbone of drag racing.

Since the day he passed the amount of sportsman coverage on TV has dwindled to almost nothing. Remember when Diamond P showed all the final runs in all of the sportsman categories at the Nat'l events and had interviews with the winners on TV? That was great stuff!

NHRA pays for the TV time, but ESPN controls who is the on-air talent.

NHRA still has to pay for it....I'd say Paul must be working cheap.

Hell I would do it for nothing, and if anyone has ever heard me annouce I would hope I could do a good job. Unk lets go overturn the booth and take over.

That booth is about 92" wide and aprox 10 feet deep, they both work out of a tail section of a trailer body. If you guys are small, you may be able to squeeze past Louis Bloom, whos in an area 1/2 as big and get in. I'd pay to see that.
