I know a guy who tried to enter St Louis this year on the Monday afternoon before the race. They turned him down. Appears to be standard policy. Although I cannot see a valid reason for it. The field isn't full, and a member of NHRA says "I'd like to give you my $250 so I can race" and is turned down. Seems less than intelligent to me.

Nobody EVER accused the NHRA of being intelligent! Jim

Ed,

I heard that they recently paved a lot of the sportsman pit area at the Motorplex, but I haven't been there to see it. At the points race back in the spring it was a mudhole.

How do you think Bruton Smith feels about NHRA....he opens the most fantastic racing (drag) facility since the Dry Lakes at Muroc in '56 and NHRA says, Oh, by the way, we are not contesting Stock Eliminator at your event, so there will be about 150 competitors and their family members not participating. That's about $38,000 through the gate, not to mention all the concessions sales lost.

The NHRA Sportsman schedule for 2008 was published well before Bruton got the approval to build Z-Max Dragway; he knew that Stock would not be contested at the event. If the plans for Z-Max had failed; Plan B was to have the event in Gainesville and Stock would not have been contested there either. The NHRA implemented this rotating schedule several years ago to control car counts; the only event where all classes are run is Indy. If they had made an exception for Bruton; how do you think the other National Event track owners would have felt? Z-Max is a truly magnificent facility; I made the trip from Ct. and thoroughly enjoyed all 4 days of the event.

They run them all at Seattle except motorbike. With the lower car counts you would think they would open them back up to all classes. Sounds like good business.

Just an FYI. S/G, S/C, Stock, Super Stock and Comp are contested at the finals in Pomona, and S/ST, S/G, S/C, Stock, Super Stock and Comp are all contested at Chicago. Chicago is the only national event that has all 6 classes competing.

I wanted to think that the reason Dallas's Stock Eliminator field is smaller than last weeks Bakersfield Div. 7 race (51 as opposed to 56), was because of the Northern Sportsnats (in Hebron, Oh.). However, since they're nearly 1100 miles apart, I'm not sure. I know that if I lived in the St. Louis, Mo. area (and had a choice between the two), I would've gone to Columbus because I agree that we're treated better at races where the sportsman racers rule!

What about the crown jewel of the NHRA circuit, Seattle?
