Album #1 of old pictures......

I had several people email asking about these old pictures. Been collecting and taking pictures since I was old enough to go to the track. If you have any comments or info on these, please leave them under the picture, I appreciate it!

There are 2 pictures in there I am interested in buying. On of RUSSO and one of my dad running the Brooklyn Heavy car. The Russo car is the car my dad put on the bumper at the 72 summernats. Please email me if you can sell me these 2.

Good pictures, I think picture 22 045 is Indy SS final with Steve Bagwell and Bill Felker. On page 2 the picture of Nicopolis, he is running the chevelle of Jimmy Bridges. When CJ Rayburn got out of Pro Stock racing, he became a pretty good dirt track racers and chassis builder. Are you coming to BG this weekend for combo race? With gas prices up and my racing budget at the bottom of the barrel, I'm going to it instead of Northen Sports. Need to try a couple of new item on the car anyway. J. Gower stock 3058

Wade O.....

First of all.......... your car is immaculate!
I didn't know it was yours ... or..... I would have stopped by to say Hi at Indy.

Second..... that is a great picture of my father's camaro (sheehan bros) at Indy (against herbies hugger).

Quick story about that race........... My father holeshot'ed Barry Desalve in the Herbie's Hugger camaro that round. We were finishing class elims the next day (for some reason I can't remember why they ran next day). We were scheduled to run Ralph Fisher and his 69 camaro in the class final. We had Ralph covered by 2 tenths.
Barry Desalve's father (Herb) was so mad we beat his son, that he pulled his motor out of his car and put it into Ralphs car for the next day's final. My father again treed his opponent (ralph - with herb's motor) and had him until half track. To this day I can remember him looking over his shoulder for Ralph while he was "missing" high gear. Ralph nipped him at the finish line.

Thanks for the memories Wade-O!!!!!

22 045 is the 73 Indy Final with the Bagwell SS/EA Cuda but Terry Earwood was driving it.

Mr. Gower,
I think that is Rodney Martin's SS/O Chevy II that Nicopolis is racing.

GREAT PICS BY THE WAY.

Looks to be a Sunbeam. I was interested in the class designation on the car.

My first time down a drag strip was in 1966 at Pacific, Mo. Believe it or not, (it's a very long story) the car was a 59 Nash Metropolitan and I had always remembered the class as XF/G. Looks like I was right.

Great job on scanning, Wade! I managed to identify IRP and Maple Grove. Was the photo of the Hemi Hoss AFX from Wentzville?

Also Dan, did you own a blue 65/66 396 Corvette convert?

Sure did. I think we know each other. I started to look you up at Gateway but never got the time.

I think your car was the tip off.!

I'll think of the other name on that hemi car sooner or later. I remember it was one that Jim Kirby used to knock heads with back in the day.

You have any Dedman & McCormick Pro Stock shots?

I messed up on those two pictures, guess I need new glasses. Looked close and there is Ball Automotive right there on side of car. They ran that car alot at Union Hill (Music City Raceway) back in the 1970's when I was going down there. J.Gower stock 3058

Mr. Gower,
I know the feeling. My eyes aren't what they use to be but I can spot a 66-67 Chevy II a mile away. By the way, what color was Jimmy's Chevelle before the Bi-centennial paint scheme?
Thanks,
Bob Rice

Re: Album #1 of old pictures......

Jack,

You have to be REALLY old to remember the AHRA classification system. I recall that "X" meant sports car, "F" meant foreign manufacturer, "G" was the weight:horsepower classification. That system was usually fairly fluid and subject to change without notice.

Says Townsend's Racing on qrtr, was parked with Jim Hayter, maybe a team car? This group of pics was shot at an AHRA race in Colorado.....
