Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
If any of you Div 3 racers have any news to pass along about S/G racer Doug McRobie's condition, please pass it along here.
I am supposedly distantly related to Doug, but we have never met. His uncle is married to my step-aunt (if that makes any sense), so maybe that makes us 5th cousins 4 times removed, or something like that. Doug and the McRobie family will be in our prayers. We hope his injuries are minor and his recovery is speedy. |
Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Lets hope for the best. This is the first I heard of this. Please keep us filled in if you hear anything.

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
We were back by the back gate and they took him out at the end of the track, in an ambulance instead of air care so hope all is well.....................

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
I was told that he did not survive from several people. I will wait on the official announcement tomorrow but this is very bad news all the way around.

A sad, sad day in the racing community. One of the finest people I have ever met. Doug always had a smile on his face and would do any thing for any one.

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Does anyone know what happened? I read online that he hit both walls, but that was all it said. I am shocked that he would be fatally injured from something like that. This is a terrible tragedy. It would be good if we could all learn something from this, that is why I would like to know how this happened.
RIP Doug |

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Our condolences and thoughts go out to Doug's family. I still can’t believe it. Doug was a super nice guy, even making a point to stop by Saturday night after the shootout, though we were merely just casual racing acquaintances. Always had a smile and a wave in the staging lanes. I guess that’s just the kind of guy he was. I’ve raced him a few times over the years and it was always a tough round.
God speed Doug. The Sawyer Family |
Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Man, I just don't know what to say. Doug was a great guy and a great racer. He and his parents always had a way of making your day better, just by a smile and a wave. God speed Doug.

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
I am sorry that my original post seemed to be somewhat lite hearted, but from reading the results posted on DRC it didn't seem to be a very serious accident.
The accidents that have claimed the lives of different professional racers lately are always touching, but when it now happens to a .90 racer doing what all of us on this forum do and love, that really hits close to home. Those of you that know Doug and his family personally seem to have been truly blessed. |
Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
I still cannot believe this happened. It did not look that bad but it was. Just as everyone else said, what a great guy. Everytime I have ever raced in D3 or was at the same race, Doug was always happy to see me and ask how I was doing. No matter what, he had a huge smile and hello, and that meant a lot to me. We talked in the lanes yesterday and he was happy to be going some rounds. Last night was a long-long ride home and I shed some tears. I will miss him.
From the whole Northrop family, RIP Doug, and I send condolences to his family. Dan |

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
I flew out early yesterday to come home to a message about this terrible news. I have witnessed Doug's smiling face and caring personality at the track for as long as I can remember. Just this weekend I saw that smile every time he drove past my trailer on his way to the staging lanes. That smile was accompanied by a friendly wave. My thoughts go out to Doug's family during this difficult time.

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Our Condolences to the McRobie Family. I didn't know Doug personally, but I have seen the car and the McRobie name at every race and know exactly which one it is. Anyone that is on the road with the rest of us .90 racers is part of the family as far as I am concerned, and losing a family member really hurts. If there is anything the rest of us can do to help the family in this time of need, just let us know. May god be with you always,
Ron. Meridee, Nick Finney 396V Super Comp |
Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
This really hits me hard ,,,and I've just now bought myself up to the point of being able to post .
Doug and his buddy Rob ,,, saved me a pit spot next to Doug and Finney this weekend ,,,, Dough is one of the folks that has always showed me true friendship and family treatment since I've been attempting to run this 90 style of racing ,,,,,, When I left Trails yesterday , Doug's trailer was the last one I was in before heading home and the last person , I siad this is your race ,,man I can feel it , you are going to win !!! His family , Dad , Mom , Wife and Son have always came by stoped over just to say hello and see how I was doing ,,,,, His smile and freindship , and caring will greatly be missed by all that knew him ,,,, I'm still strugling with this whole thing and attempting to understand why Doug ,,, Why not Eddie ?? I love racing but it will not be the same for me without Doug's smiling face . God Speed my Friend ! Eddie Arnold |

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
Tonight was the first night in a long time that I hugged my son and told him how much I loved him, and how proud I am of him.The loss of a close friend makes you realize how important familyand friends are. I always take for granted that they will be there, and that they know how I feel about them. It takes a terrible tragedy like this one to make you realize that you may not have that opportunity to tell or show them.
Arrangents have been made, and can be viewed at: http://obit.spidellfuneralhome.com/o....cgi?id=585309 For those unable to attend, there is an online guestbook that will allow you to express your condolences. There is also an account that has been set up for the family. Once I have the details, I will post them on here. |

Re: Doug McRobie crash at Hebron
First off all, our deepest sympathies to the Family and Friends. From what I saw from the starting line it looked way less violent than when Ron Erks hit the wall in Gainesville. Same scenario, he hit the brakes at the finish line and the car went away. I wear a HANS device and take some grief for it. That's OK, I wish we all had to wear one. All we can learn from this is that SAFTY matters most. We all love to race, for some of us that's an understatement. However my Family and friends need me, as yours need you. Please buy and wear some type of head and neck restraint. I love most of you, and may God bless all of you. Jeff
