Live from Memphis!
We should be rolling out in an hour or so for the 165 mile trip. We are taking our 3 year old granddaughter Aubrey with us this weekend. The last time she went with us was to Bowling Green to the Sportsnationals in May and brought us good luck. Larry ran that race up. So hopefully she will bring us luck again. Also tonight my sister and her fiance are driving down and staying with us. They will be attending their first drag race. The weather looks like it is going to be gorgeous all weekend. Low 80s during the day and 50s at night with 0% chance of rain. The only sportsmen that are running this weekend are stock, superstock and super gas and no alcohol. I will let you know what the schedule is after we get there.
More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Memphis!
We got here about 4 this afternoon. Parked and teched just fine. We are on the main road on the tarmac to the right if you are coming and want to come by to see us.
Schedule for tomorrow--start at 9:30 and get 3 runs before they start with the pros. Then 1st round at 9 on Sat. We run 2nd round before pros, then 3rd round after 1 pro session. They parked til 6, then are stacking til morning. We haven't been here and they have changed things around as far as coming in. Everyone comes in over on the round track side. Then drives around the end of the racetrack, then over to the airport. Lots of superstockers over here where we are. Jimmy & Debbie Bridges, Art and Brandon Wilkinson, Kenny Schindler, Dick Lux, Jerry Holman. Also have seen Dave and Ray Buckner, Bobby Brannon, Ronnie West, Mike & Corky Welfel with Sadie their dog, Bob Robbins, and Bob Gere. I think someone else is driving John Livingston's car this weekend. Well, more later. Patsy |

Thank you so much for your live reports. I live for them! LOL If you see Kevin Helms, tell him Mom said hi! I'd sure like to meet you guys some day. Keep up the good work and good luck this weekend. Pat PS The photos are GREAT! Hope you can post more this weekend! |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Hi, Just got back from our 2nd run. Big headwind. Nobody is going as fast as we thought. Lots of people killing at the big end.

Re: Live from Memphis!
Patsy,
Thank you for your great reports. |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Sorry I haven't been reporting, but they were running us pretty quickly this morning. So we are done for the day. Lot of jockeying for positions out there today. Larry and Aubrey are going over to look at the final qualifying sheets. They are a little slow putting it up on DRC today.
The weather has been gorgeous all day, but pretty windy. And it is a headwind, so everyone is down a little on MPH. I will go out later and see what's going on. One note: Brent Robbins was thrown out after he made his 1st run because he did not go to registration after getting teched before he made the run. More later. Patsy |

Teardown was Decker and Stephenson, top ten players

Re: Live from Memphis!
Sorry I haven't gotten around to posting til now, but it has been very busy. Aubrey has been bringing us good luck again. Larry beat Hutto heads up first round, then Phil Jackson red-lighted. We don't run again til after a round of pros this afternoon. Nothing too exciting happening. Just another beautiful day here in Memphis. About 75 now and sunny.

Re: Live from Memphis!
Hey Larry
What was the air checking during Qualifying?? |
Re: Live from Memphis!
The connection here has been terrible today. Just typed a bunch and it all went away. Oh well-- the air was around 1700' yesterday during qualifying.
We we in the lanes for 3rd round and the tree messed up during comp. Then the time ran over into the pro time session. So Stock got to do a Parade in front of the stands back to the pits. The we go back up 2 hours later, then sit in the lanes for an hour while the clean up after the pros. Then we have the pleasure of running the 3 time world cham Kevin Helms. Larry had him a little on the tree. Then our car keeps slowing down. Larry dumped at the end and lost oil pressure. Talk about an awful feeling-- seeing your race car being towed back to the pits. |
Re: Live from Memphis!
So I don't guess we will be going to Atlanta or Shreveport next weekend. We hadn't decided where we were going so I guess now it is nowhere.
I took a few pictures so I will post them when we get home. We will probably stay here tonight and go home 1st thing in the morning. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Thanks for the live reports, Larry and Patsy. As always I look forward to them. If you're going to lose, it may as well be to one of the best. Hope the damage to the engine is not too bad.

Re: Live from Memphis!
Sorry these were all the pics I got at Memphis. Trying to keep up with a 3 year old took up most of my time.
Hopefully we will be out again before the end of the year and I will get more. Patsy |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Patsy,
Did Larry find out what was wrong with the car? |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Jim,
He hasn't even taken the car out of the trailer. He just started working on the other engine getting it ready. He is out of town working now so it will be the weekend before he gets back to it. Thanks, Patsy |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Larry,
Did you see the pics of you up at Earlville posted on another thread here? You looked pretty good in those shots. Enjoyed all of your reports. Thanks |
Re: Live from Memphis!
Cyclone,
What shots of Dad at Earlville are you referring too? BTW, are you in the earth moving business? Thanks, Chris |

Re: Live from Memphis!
Chris,
The above post is the correct one that I saw, and the Cuda looked good to me. Yes, I am sort of in earthmoving, I assemble the truck in my pic, the 797 Cat truck. V-24, 3800+HP, I forget the torque rating. Tires are 13.5 feet tall and will haul 400ton. It weighs one and a half million pounds empty. We never see one complete because it would crush all the underground piping around the factory if we drove one. Right now our biggest customer is Canada for the oil(tar sand) and next year Australia has a large order on the books. We only have a few of these in Wyoming and our tech center in Tuson. I would love to drive one even if it only has a top speed of 40mph and a red line of 1900rpms. Steve |
