Rumors:
I am posting some information that floated around at the IHRA race this past weekend... Now i am wondering how the Sportsman racers would feel...
There are people who are looking at a one race runoff at the end of the year for the World Championship. Criteria, if you win a National event or Divisional you qualify... How would this make you look at racing? I understand that it is a very good source inside the IHRA HQ, So fire away, send some emails, make some posts... I know there are things that seem unclear about IHRA and its future... And we have heard nothing from the sources to be.... |
Re: Rumors:
so you are saying that you can only win the championship if you win a divisional or a national event ?????????????? uh thats pretty dumb
|
Re: Rumors:
In the old days NHRA did that with the World Finals. Amy Faulk won it, was named world champion for that year, and caught h#$ll for years to come. It'll never work.

Re: Rumors:
i was going to say, back in the day for the World Championship they invited the top 8 from each eliminator and those drivers raced for the championship.
But this could get interesting for sure. |
Re: Rumors:
I don't know about IHRA....but I don't see NHRA changing the current format...

Re: Rumors:
I hate the idea, what if you won 3 races and had a huge points lead, but something kept you from attending that last race?

Re: Rumors:
I heard from a very realiable source this past weekend that this is very very likely to happen next season. He heard it from a member of IHRA management I think this is a bizarre idea, and one I may not be willing to support. In my opinion if they think car counts are down now, wait untill this change is made. If they feel the NEED to change something, why not have a shootout for the championship compromised of the 6 division champs and the national top ten.

Re: Rumors:
Why not just leave it alone?! If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. IHRA is notorius for trying to reinvent the wheel!
The original post is probaly from IHRA?????!!!!!!! |
Re: Rumors:
so if u win multiple div or nats are u entered into the fianl race multiple times????

Re: Rumors:
Just think of the money everyone will save: you win the divisional and you don't have to attend any other races until The Finals. So in reality, you could be the class champion by attending 2 events.

Re: Rumors:
This is probably the stupidest idea they have ever come up with. I heard the rumors also. Their thinking is you will go to more races to get in the shootout or more races to knock somebody out. I think this will cut car counts in half at some races. Guys will drive thousands of miles to finish top ten. This is way worse than the "BEST OF BOTH WORLDS" idea they had. It dillutes the world championship concept.
I know many of you don't bracket race but back in the day They had 1 bracket finals with each track sending top 10 in both classes. It really meant something to even make the team. Then GREED set in. Now they have a Bracket Finals in each division with some divisions having 2. Each track carries 48 cars too. The winner gets an iron man( which you can also win at select bracket races now), a silver card(good only for bracket races), and of course money. Back in the day NHRA took the division champs and raced them for the World Championship, now thats not a bad idea, but like someone else said don't fix what ain't broke. Figure out how to put "Hot Dog Eaters" in the stands and let us race. Chip Johnson |
Re: Rumors:
This is unreal winning world championships come from consistanty not from winning one race. Think about this with the low car counts a guy goes out and wins a 4 round local div race doesn't race another one all season but since he won this race it qulified him for the special run off he goes and wins that race, so the world champ has not enough points to finish in the top ten in the div with the current format but he is crowned world champ. This has got to be one of the worst ideas I have ever heard of period.

Re: Rumors:
Who knows, this type of deal might be fun. I don't think they'd be talking about making changes if the way they were doing things now were working out like they wanted. No matter how they do it for 2009, I'll support it and hope it will be in the best intrest of all IHRA Sportsman racers. If it doesn't work out, then I'm sure they would consider changing it back to the old way.
Just my .02, lets see what happens! |
