Live from Atco-- Part 3-NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Seems like we never stop coming here as this is the third time Atco has been on our tour this year.During the two hour drive here it was super windy on the NJ Turnpike and speeds were limited to 35mph in places .After getting fuel in Berlin,NJ (it was a great buy at $3.75 for diesel and regular offered at $3.11 for cash)i finally got to the track and teched in .Made a quick check out pass which was pretty good considering the barometer really sucks .
I'm solo this weekend as Debbie has to work (well somebody has to) but I'll try to get as many posts and updates that I can . I can't believe how full this place is and its only Thursday . Test and tune all day but it looks like rain any minute............later ! ! ! |

While I have a few minutes waiting for some new Hoosiers to be mounted let me tell you about the standout today so far - its Steve Colabro and his 69 Corvette L-88 car thats in AA/SA this weekend .With his permission here's the "numbers" from his pass today ---1.296 60'
3.919 330' 6.153 1/8 109.20mph 1/8 8.107 1000' 9.771 1/4 @135.82 Here's the "real" weather story -- on my gauges not his -- 70.7 degrees 37.9 % hum 29.58 barometer .28 vapor pressure and 1539 DA ........as you can see not mineshaft air.. very good for this combo-welldone ! ! Wonder what this teams plans are for tomorrow? Hmmmmm.......... |

Hopefully the weather will turn better.

Test and tune is all but over and not many changes - Calebro backed up his .77 with a .82 because they held him too long on the line and he had to be hot . I made four runs and each was slower as they went but were all within .035 . Didn't rain this after like we thought......hope tomorrow is better ....later

Its a beautiful sunny morning here at Atro Raceway and if your a Stock/SuperStock racer this is the one you've been waiting for . Weather is 61 degrees with humidity at 60% and burning off --Vapor pressure is 31 with the barometer at 29.77 and the final DA at 761 . Not mineshaft conditions but much better than yesterday and looking for improvement .
Before I forget -- congrats to "Fast Eddie" Bednaz who retired on Wednesday and last night his friends "toasted" him at the Tiki Bar here inside the track........I'm sure there will be stories today . Record runs are this morning and I'll try to keep you up to date..........later . BTW -- Racers were coming in all night - count is past 500 and climbing -- expected to go past 600 --have no idea where they are going to pit -- the place is very full .Soon we'll need Grading Points for a Lucas race..... |

First round of stock time trials complete this morning -- sheets not out yet but here's the dope -- plenty of cars in the 1.10 -- 1.20 range -- Ficacci Sr. in AA/S went 9.77 ........Calebro blew the tires off trying to set the AA/SA record going 9.88 .. more soon.....

It is going to be interesting in AA/SA since Dempsey Pendarvis ran a 9.846 at Red River Raceway on his first qualifying attemp.

600 cars?!? In "this economy"??? Hey, everybody, what's wrong with this picture??
I saw a poll on CNN last week where they had talked to "average" (Read whatever you want into that.) people about the bailout. The question was "Do you understand what the reasons for the economic crisis are and what the economic bailout is all about?" 60% of the people responded "No" and only 2% said "Yes". I look at the renowned population on Capitol Hill who are trying to figure this thing out and realize they are a cross section of that polled group. So few people there know what they are doing, and do not realize they are part of the problem. It's no wonder they have a single digit approval rating. I write my Congressman and Senators every week to remind them of that. "I'm sorry.", as I step off my soap-box. |

Sure the economy is in the toilet but we are flush with 9 second Stockers this weekend!

Action is just dragging on ( no pun intended) this afternoon -- S/S has yet to run their second run or the record back-ups .Speaking of records -- word has it there will be no teardowns today -- all will be tomorrow at 8am sharp .Guess that means if you set a record forget about racing in your eliminator -- really stinks if you planned to race .They need another way........this is a Lucas Oil Points race ! ! They just called SuperComp - after that SuperGas -- then maybe S/S . Later........

S/S finally got their run -- most slowed up 1 or 2 -- Russ Linke SS/JA still #1 .Stockers on the other hand went plenty fast - to be in the top ten you had to be -1.25 or better . 118 total cars went down the track today with some straglers expected in the morning . 71 cars were 1 second or more under . Tomorrow is predicked to be a little faster -- one last shot in the AM and then its into eliminations .BTW -- a call out to Gene Monahan for another #1 pass at an amazing-1.373 under -- have you proven your point Gene ?
We in D1 really don't know lucky we are -- in D2 today the Atlanta points meet had 34 Stockers make the first time trial today -- kind of makes you think doesn't it .This gas thing really has racing screwed up......local gas dropped again this afternoon to $2.99 . The temp has dropped a bunch in the last hour -- brrrrr--- Fall is finally here . Sure - I'm chilly and Debbie's at home -- what's a guy to do but get out the extra blanket and rough it ! ! ! Well there's a AA/SA Red Vette heading to Atco now, as we speak. He just went 9.483 on the cleanup run, and says he"s heading to New Jersey.to show off a little. I am not gonna say who but his initals are ......................Craig Couris.

Thanks Jack for the great reports and Kenny for the pictures. I often wondered how many stockers there are in D1. I would guess between 300-400, imagine if they all came out to one race!

Tom,,,thanks again, and to Kenny also for doing this. I see on one of Ken's shots there is a gorgeous 64' Plymouth hardtop, that appears to be silver. Could you get a closer shot of it. I've always loved the 64 Furys and a buddy of mine raced a Sport Fury back in the 70s. It the one car of course that he wishes he could get back. I wonder who this is and what class the car is running in, and what combo.
