Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
I have just learned that the final arrangements have been made for a match race at Roxboro Dragway, Thursday, October 16, between an original Sox & Martin Duster and the Motown Missle. These two cars have already made appearances at a couple of tracks recently. Go to Roxboro Dragway web site for racing line-up and time. I think there is also a chance that the Grumpy's Toy Monza might also make an appearance.
This is match racing the way a lot of us remember it at Roxboro. |
Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
That would be cool to see. I rember the original guys match racing out here mid week in the '60s and '70s. Funny Cars, Top Fuelers and Pro Stockers.

Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
Should be a good night for racing at Roxboro on Thursday Night. Air temperature at around 65 degrees and a humidity of 55% according to the Weather service for 6:00 pm.

Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
Those are both powerglide cars. Nothing nostalgic about that.
Would be worth watching if they were still stick cars though. |
Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
Thanks for the pics Chris. It would still be worth watching so far as I'm concerned...I grew up watching match races w/ these guys along w/ Dyno Don, Grumpy, Billy the Kid Stepp at Roxboro and it brings back a lot of great memories!

Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
No one is selling the cars as any thing except the history that they are. The people who are coming to see the cars are only enjoying the memories they represent. Judging from all of the responses, including everyone at Roxboro on Thursday, people look at them and remember how drag racing was in those day, particularly match racing.
How about Sox & Martin, Motown Missile, Grumpy's Toy and Daddy Warbucks in a four way match race. |

There was a match race on the Monday night, two weeks before the one at Roxboro, between the Sox & Martin car and a previous Billy Steep car racing under the name "Shadow Lancer". As we were standing around in the pits at Roxboro Thurday night we were talking about when these match race, took place every night of the week Monday in Darlington S.C., Tuesday at Capitol Raceway in Maryland and Thursday night at Englishtown. |
Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
Need to make one last post on the match racing until probably next year. We are not selling cars but, there are nostalgia design match race t-shirts for sale and at the races 50/50 tickets with donations going to The Ronnie Sox Foundation to benefit the Children at St. Judes.
See you at the races. |
Re: Super Stock/Pro Stock Match Race
I don't understand why these cars are automatics? Put a Jerico or a Lenco in them! I don't get it. Jim
