Live from Indy Fall Open!
Well we are finally on our way. Left the house about 8:15 pm for the 6 hour trip. Hopefully we will be able to get parked and ready to run when they begin at 8 in the morning.
We have a motorhome full of people. Chris and Keisha and the 2 granddaughters are with us this weekend. We plan on having a great time. The weather is looking good for both days. We have a new engine in so we don't know how that will go tomorrow. We plan on running top stock, so I hope it goes good. I will post more tomorrow and let you know how many people are here. More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
Patsy, Larry, I will be in early in the AM. Registration for TOP/STK and JR/STK willl be at the NHRA trailer as usual. Entry sheets will be there. Please pass the word if you are up earlier than I get there. Qualifying runs will be weighed in both. See you then. Entry is $50 in both classes. Thanks Dick Butler

Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
Got here about 2:30 est. They started parking just after 7. Got teched and made the 1st run. There are 88 stockers. I believe Jerry Stealy is #1. After I see some sheets, I will let you know more.
We went 10.38 @ 126. OK for the 1st run on the new engine. More later. Not many running top stock yet. Patsy |

Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
94 stockers, 75 super stockers. Just finished round one of stock. All random pairing first round. It is faster today than it was yesterday. Superstreet is going down now. Then super gas, then first round of super stock.

Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
TOP/STK -9 cars qualified. Brett McFarland in his 68 Camaro Qualified #1 10.167, Paul Boster #2.and Fred Suiter #3. Fred Suiter got the Bye into the final and Brett beat Boster. For the final Brett got a single and again made a great run at 10.16. Fred Suiter had broken his wheelie bars on the Bye giving a great full out pass with what became trade mark Wheel stand from the line. Fred finished this year as runner up at ALL the TOP/STK meets. Great competitor.
JR/STK put on a great show with 8 Qualified at our first event.Chuck Beach Qualified #1 at 10.97 in his Barracuda and Jeff Stealy close at #2 with a 11.02 in his 86 Camaro. In eliminations these two worked their way to a Fantastic Final run. When the smoke cleared Stealy won with a 11.00.to Chucks great 10.98. A GREAT RACE enjoyed by everyone. Thanks to all the racers who participated. Everyone had a great time at our first race. Now everyone has another reason to touch up their combo for this class racing type event. I will be working hard to encourage NHRA to give us TOP/STK and JR/STK at least at the Open events for 09. With your help I would like to see this added to Sportsnationals or other races where regular class might not be run. INDY race had over 650 entries and they were working hard to get it all in. Thanks to Jay Hullinger and Rich for having our races this year. Dick Butler |
Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday. It was a busy day with staying in the lanes after they called us up forever. Then on the 2nd time trial they called Top Stock before we ran our regular run. So we missed the 2nd time trial. Larry ended up red-lighing to Tosto in the 1st round. Brett McFarland had the bye. Boster beat Thomas Arnett. Benett beat Dinkel. Fred Suiter won 1st round by Brad McFarland being a no-show. Brad was having problems with his car and did not run 1st round today either. We won 1st round today. Hopefully things will run along better today.
More later. Patsy |
Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
Does anyone know who won? I will post more later about the race. Got to fix breakfast now.

Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
Sorry I didn't post more yesterday, but we had an equipment failure. The little antennae on the cell phone card for the computer got messed up and it wouldn't connect. I don't know if it had anything to do with having a 3 year old and a 16 month old in reach of it or not. LOL
Qualifying for Stock: 1. Jerry Stealy- H/SA--1.322 2. Sam Hamod-I/SA--1.289 3. Timothy Weinzapfel-1.286 R/S beat us 2nd round 4. Richard Zink-L/S--1.267 5. Bill Sempsrott-K/S-1.248 went for record, but missed by .01 6. Bruce Witherspoon- G/SA--1.244 7. Dave Walther-G/S-1.19 8. Bert Morgan-Q/SA-1.177 9. Bob Gere-L/SA -1.174 10. Donnie Beeler-G/S-1.156 11. Greg Hill- E/SA-1.156 then the rest: Summers, Pierce, Brett McFarland, Winchester, Quinn, Leach, Lyn Smith, McGinley, Mike Morgan, Dyer, Sweasy, Owens, Hughes, Fenner, Thomas Arnett, Rambo, Gyorke, Lowe, Belanger, Conkey, Mike Fuller-B/SA--.98.1, Dunlap, Kaekel, Gillespie, Gipson, Keihn, Antrobius, Harrison, Clark, Schaechter, Long, Suiter, Larry Hill A/SA-.915, Steiger, Bibb, Ellis Buth, Michael, Livengood--blew his up, Shane Smith (in a Mopar), Mattingly, Simpson, Lovins, Downing, Denysenko, Gower, Judi Bureski, Wallace, Clay Arnett, Truman, Kastle, Howard, Holley, Hardy, McDonald, Tosto, Schmalz, Ed Bennett, Phillips, Rod Boertman, Gresens, Hall, Reese, Walcott, Daryl Bureski, Stamps, Whalen, Kinkel, Botten, Caleb McFarland (Brett's 16 year old son in the D/SA Corvette, now he was having fun!), Bishop, Lindley, Hanlon, Black, Bill rowe, Seibenick, Barkley, Turk, JB Stephenson, Larsen (Underdog is here!), Chris Stephenson, Dean, Bob Smith, Gil Brannon. Brannon was # 94 in a 92 Spirit--just getting a grade point? On Saturday seems like we spent most of the day sitting in the stands waiting to run. There were lots of oil downs in other classes. They would call you up and then we would wait for an hour or more each time to run. So it was a day of hurry up and wait. But it was Chamber of Commerce weather. Mid 80's and cool at night. Could not have asked for better weather. And the track hooked everytime for us. We had a great time with all the family there. Sorry I didn't get any pictures this time, but I will at the next race. So where should we go in 2 weeks? Kansas City is having a Nat'l Open where they are running Top Stock, too, but they run Stock/Superstock Combo. (420 miles) Then Division 2 has a points meet at Reynolds, GA (492 miles) Then there is the Dutch Classic--run Class or Top Stock, but it is 858 miles. I guess the weather will probably be the deciding factor!! More later. Patsy |

Re: Live from Indy Fall Open!
This was my first stock race and I had a great time this weekend. Several people came up and talked to us and everyone seemed very friendly and helpful. It was nice meeting all of you. Dad and I really felt welcomed by the stock crowd.
I'm a senior at the U of Illinois this year so I should be able get to most of the Div 3 races next year and am looking forward to it. Drew Whalen |
