Delay Boxes
They suggested in the .90 forum, that we asked how the super stock guys felt about delay boxes, cause the .90 classes were a "waste of time". Have at it!

Re: Delay Boxes
i've had one for years in my superstocker lol
|
Re: Delay Boxes
I don't believe it is the delay box it is the throtle stop that hurts the appeal in .90 classes. In my opinion.

Re: Delay Boxes
I like the variety of cars that compete in the 9.90 class. I think it is a good mix of roadsters and door cars. Other than that, I don't really care for the throttle stops either.
|
Re: Delay Boxes
Get rid of the throttle stops and the appeal of the class by the spectators will grow.

Re: Delay Boxes
guys my family have ran the Pro Gas/Super Gas cars since day one, the throttle stop isnt the problem, its the timers, back when the throttle stops first came out they didnt shut down until both drivers went into high gear, which in case the fans seen side by side leaves and really didnt notice the throttle stops going into effect.
Bottom line, timers have killed the super classes, if it wasnt for my parents running the class i wouldnt be watching it to much. (and i use to race both SG & SC myself) It's really a dead issue cause NHRA or IHRA will never change the rules, so................. Back to the delay box question, well here we go again, how much electronics are we going to let SS & Stock use to kill both those eliminators. Go back to foot break racing in both, lol. |
Re: Delay Boxes
hey joe, are you coming down to the pri show? if so maybe you would like to help our assoc on dec 6th at gainesville the weekend before the show.
|
Re: Delay Boxes
The .90 classes would be much more fan friendly if they followed the Heritage gasser rules. Get rid of the timers and stops and run on 8.50, 9.50 & 10.50 index. with a qualified field.
Watching the endless parade of throttle stopped 8.90 dragsters to 10.90 door cars is boring. So much so that I sold my S/G car and started construction on a "paper" Shelby stocker. (May be my biggest finacial mistake of the year) |
Re: Delay Boxes
Just follow the logical idea by eliminating the .90 classes and move them into Top Sportsman and Top Dragster and dial them. No one has to build a new car, everyone can still race and the fan appeal is back. The stops and timers are what the fans hate.

Re: Delay Boxes
most chasis in door cars aren't certitied to run that quick.

Are we racing in Gainesville that weekend? Will we still run at Palm Beach in December? Thanks, Mark Berg I/S 2665 |
Re: Delay Boxes
Just like most stock n ss racers say when someone bitches about the rules. If you dont like it go bracket racing. There is good and bads with bolth. Same applys here just bight your tung and do what fits you best.

Re: Delay Boxes
With the talk of 1000' racing for everyone, and test cases of 1/8 mile, my input would be that Super Classes race to 1/8th mile:
1. The real racing is at the finish, and most spectators could then see that close finish 2. speeds up the races, nullifying the time killing across the line burnouts, and the seconds on the stop, adding to race day length (so maybe LODRS can be done by 6-7 PM!!, or sooner so we can get home in time to go to work on Monday!!) 3. safer 4. on the stop less time, maybe unnoticeable Sorry for crashing in to Super class territory, but it is on the class site My 2 cents, and with the economy....waaaay less |
Re: Delay Boxes
At Piedmont Dragway we run 3 heads up classes on various Thursday nights. 1/8 mile we run a 7.49, 6.49 8.99 with no electronics allowed. You cant even run a trans brake in 7.49, its all side by side and Ill get 300 more people on my 6.49 night. WHY>>>THEY RACE SIDE BY SIDE PRO TREE NO DEEP STAGING. Its easy to understand and we get a large mix. If they cut the timers out of the .90 classes and local tracks ran that program people would come out to watch. I know a guy who runs 4.80's in the 1/8 with his Super Gas car. Another runs 5.40 in the 1/8 with his Super Street car. A 10.90 car that will run 8.50. Yea that adds up.
As for delay boxes I say no, but if you make it legal Ill run one obviously. |
Re: Delay Boxes
Certainly is amusing to see you fellas morph a question about delay boxes in SS to a rant about the .90 classes. There is a place for all of us, and most of us like our choice of racing. You class guys build great cars that are fun to watch. And RULES are everything to your type of racing. Our rules are simple. Hit the PRO tree, run the number. If we want more rules, we'll go class racing!! So we can build a killer combo........and shoe polish a number on the window!!!
I most humbly request that you all not concern yourselves with our rules, and we'll do likewise!! RIP |

Do the .90 classes have qualified fields? |

I told you my honest opinion as a track owner. Grass roots racing is coming back and people like it. Fans want to see side by side and if you dont know a track cant make it on racers alone. You must have spectators and they dont watch the .90 classes like they will a slower side by side class. Herb Jr piedmont dragway |
Re: Delay Boxes
I really agree with herb that fans could see the sportsman racing better if it was 1/8th mile where all the action is right in front of them.
|
Re: Delay Boxes
Herb,
Wouldnt it be easier to move a section or two of stands at the finish on both side's of the track then try to change the history of 1320 foot racing not to mention the thousands of dollars it would cost S/SS guys to change their cars to run as fast as possible to the 1/8? |

No, all run 1st round. We do get a qualifying order after 1st round on NHRA and 2nd in IHRA but it does not count for much except a bye if odd number of cars. |
