Finishing the Dutch on Monday?

Does anyone want to blast NHRA for postponing the conclusion of the Dutch like we did for IHRA extending the World Finals last weekend?

Just a thought here
if you know maple Grove and you understand the time of the year it is
Dont you think it is safer to complete this during the day??

When the sun goes down this time of year at the Grove the dew is a big time problem. I just got home from there and my brother is still in the 4th round of S/C when they called the race until Monday. I guess safety was on there minds for the racers.

I think that was Bowman's tongue-in-cheek point.

Chris,

I would like to commend NHRA for halting the action. I've raced at MG for years and when the sun sets this time of year there is an amazing amount of moisture. My windshield has fogged over many times, in fact i once remember pre-staging, then wiping the windshield before rolling in.

Any car faster than about 15 seconds would be at risk with a track as wet as MG on an Oct. night. Its bad enough in the summer. Racing Monday beats crashing Sunday.

That is just the way it was a the rock. I think it was a good call and probably saved a lot of race cars as did the rock on their dicision.both should be recomended.!

I think it was a good call as well. I have a friend that has a hemi car and I have been to the Dutch with him, and I remember the moisture there in the evening. I have been at Beaver Springs when the fog was so thick you could'nt see the cars after they went past the 330'. Safety has to be an over riding factor in all of these decision.
I really just started this post because everyone seemed to be judging the actions last weekend at the Rock, while saying nothing about the extension of the Dutch Classic.

Re: Finishing the Dutch on Monday?

The decision should have been expected by anyone who was there on Friday. The 2nd qualifying sessions for Comp. Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman were cancelled because they could not finish them before sundown. Quite a few times, the announcement was made that they could not run after sundown due to unsafe track conditions. With the number of rounds remaining in all categories yesterday morning, it should have been fairly obvious that they were not going to be able to complete the race before sundown. Safety always should be the top priority.
