where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
..anyone?..Bueller?? Bueller??. I've emailed that question to several people with NHRA, but I have not received a response.

Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Robert: Try Pat Cvengros. I think his e-mail is pcvengros@nhra. He has always been very good about getting back to me with an answer, and in a timely manner.

Robert -- I've never heard of a system that wasn't approved for use...........and all of them will turn the NOS on anytime you want it to ! ! ! ! !
PS--Cussing and smoking are only allowed in the lounge .I'm sure management will tell you at some point . |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
NHRA states...
"Electronic Fuel Injection: In classes where allowed, must be closed, OEM-type system; i.e., may monitor only engine functions. Monitoring of vehicle performance criteria, wheel speed, driveshaft speed, vehicle acceleration, etc. by fuel-injection system prohibited. All aftermarket OEM-type electronic fuel injection must be NHRA-accepted. A current list of NHRA-accepted electronic-fuel-injection systems is available on NHRA.com." Where is the list? I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the NHRA website is very cluttered. They've done a great job of cramming 19 lbs. of crap into a 5 lb. bag. |

Finally, I got it. Pat sent it to me in a matter of moments. ..It's amazing how ****ing difficult it is to get an answer from certain people at the NHRA.."too many cooks", I suppose. Thanks Pat!..anyone that wants a copy, lemme know via email at rpare@coppermineapplicators.com..ps..it's not on the website, as claimed in the 09 Rulebook among other areas.

Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Just spoke with tech dept out in california, they said it would be out soon. The ones I remember are ACCEL, F.A.S.T. PART # XFI, DONT REMEMBER WHAT OTHER ONES. BUT THAT GIVES A IDEA.
IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE MAKING IT MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT TO RACE ESPECIALLY WITH THE WAY THE ECONOMY IS. |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
I sure hope they don't have a problem with guys retaining the STOCK ECU!
|
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Interesting..the Gen 6 Accel and the Big Stuff Gen 4 are NOT on the list.
|
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
That is interesting, I was looking to see if the gen 4 Big Stuff was on it.

Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Rob, can you email that list to me. I can't get your email to work on my laptop. I'm just an analog guy living in a digital world I guess. racerrick2881@yahoo.com . Thanks in advance. STOCKERS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rick.

Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
This "sucks" The people that made my unit never heard of stock or superstock. They make ECU's for high horsepower imports, for road racing not for nhra drag racing. I took 3 years to build the car. Went to 2 races. and now it's illegal? I don't want to take this personal but WTF.
I've got a couple of questions. 1 Who wrote the list? 2 How do you get nhra to put one on the list. What is the problem here? If you don't have any wheel or drive shaft counters. What difference can an engine control unit make? It only controls the timing and the fuel. How can you cheat with one? Could it be any easier to cheat with an ecu than a 2 step? |

Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
More than likely the units not on the list are no longer supported by the manufacturer. Therefore they forwarded not info.
I too spent 4 years building a stocker with an Accel Gen VI. Contacted NHRA, sent some information and it is being reviewed. They may require more information which I will do my best to forward to them. Called a friend who has done a lot of EFI with motec, fast and big stuff. Said it is easy to cheat with these systems. Traction Control, etc. with the data logging they include. Get in touch with NHRA officials and your representative. Keep on them, there is no reason why the older systems can't be used. For those with new systems: you and / or the manufacturer will need to provide information for review. |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
I've used the EFI Technology unit (the same one used by Pat Musi and Harold Martin) for several years...now it's not an approved unit??
|
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Frank WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!! I've had enough!!!!! There's way to cheat with everything. If anybody knew anything about traction control it does not help on a car that has to dial in unless your holding a ton and that's not meant to be a couple of tenths... Why don't they just ban all fuel injected cars. Lets see why don't i take an ls1 corvette cut the wires for the traction control and then program the stock ecu to count off of the anti lock brakes. Wow my car now runs dead on every time!!!! This IDIOT at nhra thinks that my dos accel "Atari" system is gonna do that? The system that started all after market fuel injection systems..He must be friends with Chong!!
p.freaking.....ssssssssssssss what the hell does Edelbrock and Msd have to offer for stock????? NOTHING this a joke and more money... Can't wait to see when Compton goes to buy some more junk and hookers............. |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
By the way. I heard most of the units on that "LIST" come with traction control. Every unit Motec makes has traction control. (for more than $7000) And there are several units from them on the list all with traction control. So what gives?
BTW my bone factory stock PT Cruiser has a button that says traction control. I'll list links to their sites. http://www.fuelairspark.com/Products...efi_charts.asp http://www.motec.com.au/aboutecu/ecucomparison |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Kieth: My new ride uses the Gen VI and yes it has nothing.
That is why I contacted NHRA to attempt to have it put on the list. Should be a no brainer. Have you contacted NHRA? There are those who would rather approach this in business like manner and see what we can do to help ourselves. If they stone wall it, that's class racing. My engine was tuned on a dyno then put in the car and tuned at the track. Last week tuned on a chassis dyno. Do you think I may also have something to loose? Got the thing to run pretty well and it may all be useless! Suggest that all contact NHRA and submit information on their system of choice. Let the cards fall where they may. Oh Yea, I know about NHRA and the manufactures using the rule book to create new sales. This is why I don't want to purchase a new system at this point. Many large manufacturers of aftermarket racing equipment may not make it through 2009. There have been machine shops closing all 2007-8, manufactures are next to be weeded out. And yes I know that your car is one of the first wave of EFI cars that Bud Rowe built. Am also aware of Art's achievements. Frank WHATEVER  |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Art, you heard wrong. FAST makes one with traction control, but it is a different name and color box, and they tell you it's not legal for NHRA. Besides, if you need that you have serious problems anyway. I remember David Nickens and MSD testing his pro Stock car at Baytown with traction control, and the best they could do was run the same, that or slow down. That was back when everybody was that crying Greg Anderson was using it when he had over 1/10th on everybody. They came and got Mike Edward's MSD box every time he qualified in the top half for a while. NHRA would bring them an MSD box and wiring and make you swap with them. The guy on the golf cart would drive off with this geeky looking little guy looking over the program loaded in the box they just confiscated. Nothing there. Anderson kept killing everybody for a good while. Most everybody's (at least most everybody fast) automatic cars dead hook anymore anyway. Traction control on Stockers and SS cars like we run ain't going to do a thing for you.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with trying to tune your FAST ECU. If you were closer to me I would have helped you with it. They will idle and run just fine. I work with them all the time. MSD? I often wonder if that stands for Must Soon Die. I've had some reliability problems there in the two short years I have used it. I have never been asked what EFI system I use anyway. I use the FAST XFI, but noody has ever looked or asked. Maybe if I were faster? :D |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Tell me Frank why is traction control going to help me???? Why? WOW!!!! Instead of asking you should find out why. Learn about this stuff for your own good. Do you know where or why the Motic system was developed? Do you know who developed the original Accel or the Felpro" fast"? Apparently you don't know who built my car!!!!! Wow again!! I don't let cards fall where they may, I move them and then I move them again Frank. NHRA is a Dictatorship, it always has been you should know that from your days Frank. I'm the guy who knocks the wall down. Go ahead spend your money I'll fight for mine.. You can just stand in a line like the rest, I make my own....... And its Keith not Kieth

I bought the box new from them in Dec, 2005 when I finally got ready to intall it it was Mar 2008. I called fast and asked some questions. About my application. And was told " the gray box is obsolete we don't work on them anymore, and that I should toss it and get the red box xfi". And not to bother them with phone calls anymore. That's what I call great customer service. A brand new unit 2 1/2 years old, cost $2500 and don't call us anymore. There are a lot of people out there that are using the gray boxes but the overwhelming majority are GM 8 cylinders. As far as traction control goes I have the lowest torque of any superstocker I run the smallest tire of any superstocker. GEE I THINK I NEED TRACTION CONTROL. I'll put that on my list right after a PARACHUTE, a FULL FIRE SUIT, ONBOARD FIRE SYSTEM, a FUNNY CAR CAGE. AND ALL THE OTHER STUFF I MIGHT NEED IN A 13 SECOND CAR LOL |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
I am concerned with the FACT that the National Hot Rod Association would spend the time and energy to publish articles with pictures of the Ashley Force and Daniel Hood wedding in lieu of creating and POSTING the list of ECU units accepted by NHRA that they repeatedly state in the rulebooks and rules revisions of the past and the present. I'd like to be on Ashley as much as the next guy with my taste for the perverse, but come on..correct me if I am wrong, didn't NHRA hire or move into a position a person that was an "electronics guru"?..For one reason or another, I remember that on NHRA's site about a year and a half ago. If that were a fact, I believe that the person in that department would be responsible for posting, maintaining, and revising the list of accepted units from a manufacturers perspective and the competitors perspective. I love the NHRA, and have plans to race in the NHRA for the rest of my years. I was simply curious to see the list I keep reading about.
The idea of using traction control specifically in stock is retarded. |

Keith, what's your point? If you use your imagination (and a considerable amount of time and effort) technology available today including ABS, traction control, electronic shifting valve bodies, dial in board, wireless communication, electronic fuel injection, could be used to control ET or recover ET. Nhra may not like the idea of that sort of thing. Is the list pupose to get the racer to spend money with a given manufacturer? Does it really matter knowing the same guy developed the Accel, Fast and Big Stuff, and Motec is from Australia? In a previous post I stated information was sent to NHRA to get the Gen VI approved. Is that not OK with you? Happy Holidays!! :D |
Pantera ECU-882 OK
NHRA: JUNE 21 2004.
" This letter will SERVE as ACCEPTANCE of the Pantera ECU-882 for the use in the Sportsman categories of NHRA Championship Drag Racing Series" "Regards, Eric M Lowe" Now in the past 4 1/2 years I have sold EMS to NHRA competitors with this certification ! NO TRACTION CONTROL, no, we do not have this object. MANY ON THE LIST PROFESS their EXPERTISE in the Traction Control field ? NOW because my EMS is LEGAL, I AM NOT ON THE LIST ? My REGRETS to those who compete at NHRA events ! I will start the legal work to correct the list, with my ECU-882 to be posted ON THE LIST "AGAIN". Lance Nist, BTW, for those who have called I will provide the NEW/OLD certification. |
Re: where can I find the NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
According to the new rule book the lt1 cars or any others with a distributor can't run a crank trigger ignition. Is this a misprint?

(I have seen zero performance improvement from running a crank trigger on my LT1) |
Crank sensor 36-1
Both the BBC (Gen-5+) AND SBC (LT-x) have crankshaft targets fitted by the OEM.
That target is a four (4) tooth wheel. Those engines also run a "distributor", POS. My replacement for that wheel is a new target, a 36 tooth wheel with ONE missing tooth. The EOM sensor is also used to provide the signal to the EMS. With this method an accurate "spark instant" is achieved. What you are reporting is how BIG MONEY rules NHRA requiring their product implementation to be ENFORCED. The costs are increased to the racers who are required to run inferior equipment. Lance |

NHRA approved list of ECU's for fuel injection.
Today, Jake Hairston stated that the Pantera EFI ECU-882's, 422's, all versions of that family are on the "List".
He stated that a new list will soon be published. Lance |
