Fuel ripoff

Will we get ripped off by the fuel suppliers at the tracks across the country? At Rockingham for the final they wanted 12.00 a gallon for fuel. This is a ripoff. The pump guy said he was told to raise the price of the Torco that was in the pumps 2.00 per gallon a few days before everyone came for the final but he didn't.If the part about raising it 2.00 just before we all came is true this is just wrong. The price of 12.00 for VP is wrong also.We should be treated fairly at these tracks and not gouged.Making 1.00 on a gallon is more than enough but 5.00 or 6.00 per gallon is robbery. If they try to stick it to us we need to get organized and bring our own fuel until they make the prices fair.We bought our own fuel last year and only purchased it when we had too because the prices were nuts.We need to stand up as a group to this kind of stuff.
IHRA jusat announced VP as the official fuel I hope whomever the distributor is charges a fair price especially now that gas prices are sinking fast.

Thats fine but why not let us run super unleaded like at a div race. What is VP doing for us ? (is the question).

I still haven't recieved my contingentcy money from VP for Virginia. ATI payed first, than Comp Cams. JW "The Wheel", has not paid yet, either. The dead beats will be removed.

Re: Fuel ripoff

I've run fuel that was $12/gal and switched to fuel that was $7/gal and the car ran exactly the same.

Best bang for the buck I've gotten in Sunoco Blue. (Bearden Oil distributor - www.beardenoil.com NC contact: dannypresnell@hotmail.com)

Never ran pump gas in my Sloan-built motor, but ran it for a month when I first bought the Volare and it ran the same as on race fuel. -=shrug=- I've run pump gas in my bracket Duster for years.

I was recently quoted $685.00 + tax and delivery for a 54 gallon drum of C-11. That is more than $12.00 per gallon delivered. I thought I could save a little money by purchasing gas this way. Also C-11 is not always available at the track. Then I have to drain the fuel cell and use a different fuel. I guess I am still better off buying fuel in smaller quantities at the events that have C-11.

Mike, thats the main reason I have been looking at the Rockett, from Tracy Robbins. His 111 was a lot cheaper. The ones I have talked to, said there was no difference between the 2. I want to get some and try it my self, first, before committing to buying a barrel.

I can't speak to Rockingham, but NED has the same price for fuel all season. National event or not. They didn't even change the gut buster special....which I was stunned to see at the same low low price of $10 if I recall correctly.

This would be an easy thing for the IHRA to dictate. Keep your fuel prices the same!

In my first season in stock, I made sure to call ahead, didn't want to run afoul of the fuel check if the track didn't have sunnoco blue.

I am looking forward to 09.

Re: Fuel ripoff

Believe what you want, there is a difference. We run VP because of the difference. Eight years and we have never had a problem with the fuel, or getting contingency checks. We buy in drums, and keep the fuel in drums (15, 30, and 54 gallon drums). If your running heads up in a competitive class, and winning, you are most likely running VP.

Kevin, unless you have a high compression engine, get your jetting right and C11 will be faster. Don't change your tuneup and you won't see anything.

I second that Kevin! Byron and I both used to run C11 then C12. Switched to Sunoco Blue a few years ago when dad got us on a deal with them. Now run Sunoco purple and our cars are running as fast, oh, and consistant as ever! I've beaten those in class who claim there is a difference! The only difference I see is in price!

Unless someone puts me on a better deal than we have now, I'm definitely staying with Sunoco!! I'm sure I speak for the other two in my family also!!

As far as contingency payments go......they pay us for everything!!!

I sell Rockett Brand and have never had a problem with fuel check. It's a hell of alot cheaper than VP and makes more power on the dyno. All of my customers love it and it is very consistent. Hey Bryan...call me, I might have a deal for you...443-207-2961.

Re: Fuel ripoff

My original post was not about performance it was about bending us over the fence because they can by gouging on fuel prices..I just think we are getting screwed. The idea of a track raising a price 2.00 per gallon from an already high price just to nip the sportsmen racers who are traveling in some cases hundreds of miles to get to a track just says to me screw you racer you are dog ****.We can make a difference there is strength in numbers.Call ahead find out what they are going to charge if it is over 8.00 per gallon dont buy it there bring your own.

Thanks

Re: Fuel ripoff

If they can't make money off the spectators, they think they have to make it off the racers!! If it wasn't for us, there would be no race tracks!! If everyone would get fuel from a dealer, maybe they would get the hint! But, as long as they are selling it, they will keep the price up!!

Mike, how long before you run out? And, will it still pass check? Just curious

BTW I bought VP-110 at PBIR for $9 a gal. last month, $11 per gal for C-12 in Lakeland back in June.

You want to get bent over, run C-25. Around 2 years ago I was paying $9.95 per gallon. This year I paid $14/gallon. I know it went up a few times since I bought it last February.

Re: Fuel ripoff

All a giant rip off.we have to stick together and stop buying from the gougers.

Comp 798 12-30-2008 10:21 AM

Re: Fuel ripoff

Paul..... How many times do you have to suggest, "get organized and stick together" before the only part of the message that gets a response is which fuel is better or where to buy. You know you have the correct idea but, sportsman racers have never heard it and organized. Good luck with that. Wish it could happen. I would support your effort.

By the way...... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family from the west coast. Freezing here, must be 65.

Re: Fuel ripoff

Sam it is like speaking to a jury.First you tell them what you are going to tell them. Then you tell them and then you tell them what you told them. One of these days sportsman racers are going to realize the power they have if they stick together.I don't mind shining the light on the path.

Re: Fuel ripoff

Fast Johnny, & Paul

Be careful what you wish for ??? I am still waiting for Sunoco & afew others from the VMP race...

I think we need stop this BS & start getting paid on TIME... I wonder if NHRA & IHRA would put up with this BS if the shoe was on the other foot... Can you see them trying to chase us for bounced Checks ! ! !..... Maybe our SCRA can find a better way of all of us getting paid on time ... If your local bank did this to you every-month, how long would you put up with this ??? I can't understand what the problem is if the money is there..........................enough said, this is something we need to FIX... NOW,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

cambria 01-06-2009 02:38 PM

Re: Fuel ripoff

Next maybe fair prices for the racers.

John Warehime 01-06-2009 02:48 PM

Re: Fuel ripoff

The manufacturer, or corporation etc., should pay us on the spot. We pay our entries up-front, and display the decals all year(or years). It's bad enough the payouts are low, but, to make us wait for a low payout is even worse.

cambria 01-06-2009 02:59 PM

Re: Fuel ripoff

The way they could do that is authorize IHRA or NHRA to be their verification agent at the time of the win for the decal and product. Now you have an official see the decal then you get the ring-around-the rosie treatment from the vendor with the receipt, the number and all that other happy horse****.And then after you supply all of that weeks or months later you may get the check. But this post was directed to fuel COST ripoff.Remeber the guy at Rockingham tells me the owners directed him to raise the price of fuel by 2.00 per gallon the week before the Finals. That is what frys me just plain ol pounding it into you the loyal racers because they can. That is why we need to buy fuel ahead of time and buy nothing at the track until they lower the prices. They should not get more than a dollar a gallon more than you can buy it for wholesale.

Lyn Smith 01-06-2009 03:16 PM

Re: Fuel ripoff

VP just announced that they have lowered the price of Nitro by $500. per barrel.Maybe racing gas is next? Yea right lol.
