D/mp

Re: D/mp
Was this photo taken at Cecil County? The tree line and the grandstand look about the same, but the fence has been chain link since the dawn of time. I'm thinking it must be Cecil Cty, because of the Steve Kanuika Speed Shop decal on the car.
Also, I see by the lettering on the front fender that this is a Shallcross Brothers car. Didn't thay have a 66 Nova with the same paint scheme? I don't remember this '56. If it's before my time, it's gotta be pretty old. |
Re: D/mp
Great vintage stuff !! I'm looking for some pic's or info about a D/MP car that used to run at Cecil Cty.in the
early 70's... Black 66' chevy II [Double Trouble Mr. Chevrolet,] on rear qtrs.... |
Re: D/mp
I miss the old M/P classes-- they seemd to show as much creativity as the gassers, but more modern (for the time) technology yet still seemed affordable--you don't see that now:(

Re: D/mp
That's Gene Stewart and the photo was taken at Delmar. Gene later built a 66 Chevy II M/P car - and later in 68-69 swapped in a Big Block and ran in the early Pro Stock Match Races around the Del - MD - PA and NJ Area.

Re: D/mp
My good friend Jay Kalmus ran D/MP and on his car it stood for she's Doing /Me Proud. His car was a '57 Chevy wagon with a 301...we set the record in D/MP at 12.57 somewhere? He is the guy that got me involved in drag racing in the mid 60's.He Lost a long battle to cancer many years ago......He was a good guy and we had a heck of a lot of fun back in those early days........

I started nostalgia racing my old C/SM Camaro at the end of 2007 with NETO - North East Timing Orgainization http://www.neto-nostalgia.com/
My car sat from 1978-2007, 30 years. I really miss Modified Eliminator Pat Hennebery Jr. C/SM 1185 |
Re: D/mp
Pat....Since you race that N.E.T.O. deal, you know Tony Feil.......I worked in his shop in the mid 60's for a while and we all raced out of his shop. Tony raced a lot of different Gassers and /MP cars. I also raced with Dennis Siderko in the late 70's early 80's and we worked together at Crow's Head Shop. His C/SM Camaro ran pretty well and was pretty much the shop demo car for engine work.....The owner was Bill Crowley....he also worked for Tony Feil going all the way back to when Tony started in Hanover.......I think we ran 10.42 at the SummerNat'ls one year. Dennis bought Roger Whites Nova around 1980 and never could get that car to work as well as the Camaro....

This is me in the final round at Indy 1974 aganist my good friend Tim McDonald, who won D/MP, he had a bad back and I had to push his car thru tech for him because of a dirt bike accident days before and he almost didn't go. Good thing he did as he went on to win Modified Elim on Monday and set the record down.At this event there was the largest number of class entries in history,52, and I doubt if this has been topped to this day or even come close. Those days class was like winning Eliminator today. Bob Hiner did both of our motors and he was standing behind us in the middle of the track because he told me he didn't want to cheer for either because we were both friends. Bob passed away a couple years ago and was a great guy and motor man. This was a four Link coil spring rear that Arlen Vanke and Dick Lowery did for me and Tim's was a 4 link. NHRA Outlawed the coil springs for 1975 and I sold the car and didn't race an NHRA event until Indy 2008 and went down to 5 cars in SG went a few rounds in SC so that was like drugs to an addict but not close to the thrill of heads up DMP. I miss it but Have a new Pro Mod ADRL nitrous car my son will race in the ADRL and that is fun and I have ran one of their events already and loved it. I would trade both of my .90 cars today for a good Comp car and try it one more time.

Re: D/mp
Nothing better than M/P racing back in the day. I really miss those days. Worst decision ever by NHRA to discontinue it IMO.

Re: D/mp
I just wonder whatever happened to all those old M/P cars? Just refuse to believe all of them ended up being converted to bracket cars.
I know my old friend, Toby Meek, still had both his old V/S and D/MC Pintos, as of about 5-6 years ago. Imagine, many others are just sitting in a garage somewhere. Treasues waiting to be rediscovered, LOL? |
Re: D/mp
There is one in our city and the owner comes out about once every 2 years or so to bracket race. Something like 305 ci , 5 speed, 6.20 or so rear gears (Dana 60). Here is a pic ...
