MT pulls out of NHRA

Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
NHRA has definitely given Mickey Thompson and Hoosier the "shaft" on the Pro Stock tire deal, but I think it is a mistake and a "knee jerk" reaction on the part of M/T to withdraw from NHRA since 99.9% of their business is on the sportsman side. Some of these companies need to "wake up" and worry about their bread and butter, the sportsman racers. Just my .02.

Finally someone/company makes a statement against NHRA policies...The only one who needs to wake up is all of the racers who complain and still kiss NHRA *****.

I also would like to applaud M/T. They have been a great supporter of the sportsman classes and looks like they will continue to support there true customers. NHRA needs to look at some of these decisions and I personally am proud of this decision by M/T.
Did anyone else notice or follow the fact that Nascar tracks are cutting ticket prices to help fill the seats? Far cry from Mr. Compton's letter. |

This is Phoenix all over again.........in fact that is when I switched from Phoenix tires to M/T! Who is going to mount my tires at the track?...and why run a product that doesn't pay?.....I guess it is time to see what Hoosier got! |
Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
I don't run MT tires but I have to applaud them for their stand on the pro stock deal. Why are they being kept from competing in pro stock? That could be dollars in sponsorship money to a pro stock team that needs it. I just wonder what Goodyear had to do to get an exclusive deal? How much did it cost and who got the money? Another example of a shady deal with no transparency. I wonder what the salaries of the top management and board of directors total at NHRA. Do you think any of them are going to have a salary reduction in these tough economic times?

Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
Speaking of knee jerk... Why would people talk about switching tire manufacturers? Mickey Thompson has long been a phenomenal supporter of Sportsman racers, and makes a phenomenal product to go with it. You'd think that this would be a nice opportunity for racers to band together -- not to take it out on M/T, but rather pressure NHRA to allow M/T to compete (and as they said, they would reconsider their NHRA support)
I run the 30x9" M/T radial, even when bracket racing. I find it to be the most consistent ticket-printing tire I've ever had. At the $20K Footbrake at Piedmont, I was on cords early in the day on Friday, and still made it to the semi-finals (red-light). I don't mean like a hint of cords showing, I mean a strip of cords an inch wide going all the way around the tire. Last pass on them was a 1.403!!! I'm with you M/T. I hope that NHRA revisits their decision and makes it possible for you to continue to do business with them and their racers. |
Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
M/T spent a lot of money last year researching and testing their P/S tire. I'm sure they are more than a little pissed about the "exclusive" supplier deal.
Maybe NHRA can supply the tires to the pro's like they do with the nitro. After a small markup of course. |

Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
I support Mickey Thompsons decision. They have been a major sponsor for 26 years with the NHRA and they deserve to be treated better. For NHRA to change the rules without first consulting or informing companies like M/T goes to show why the list of contingency paying companies gets shorter each year.
The NHRA continues to act more like a government agency with no regard for the people or companies that are affected by their decisions. M/T has made the best working sportsman tires forever, and I'm sure you will see them supporting the sportsman racers through their team M/T program or other events and sanctioning bodies. |

Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
Because their support trucks wont be allowed into the tracks, how many of us would drive to a closeby, remote location to buy tires from MT?
MT wants to keep supporting us and I would hope that we can support them with their stand. Is it too difficult to load your stuff into a truck and exit the facility for a short trip? I would hope not, the other alternative is to ship their tires to you but that involves more expense. |
Re: MT pulls out of NHRA
They banned other "energy drinks" from sponsoring race teams also, right? Gotta wonder what they are thinking.
MT could pay contingencies direct, the same way Rossler and Turbo Action do it now. Gets NHRA out of their pockets. |
