Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
You sure on that? It sounded more like the tire came off and the truck hit the tree.

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
They'll probably try and make him pay for it:) They'll wait for his Nat Dragster renewal is up and bill him $1200 for a fab one year subscription or they'll increase everyone's to offset the cost.

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
I talked to Foster last year about buying a tree for practicin.... (Lord knows I need it...)
after Jeff told me what one of them sold for I decided to hang onto my smaller Biondo piece.....those Compulink trees don't come cheap! That guesstimate of 1200.00 doesn't come CLOSE Unk |

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Since he runs M Stock Automatic, he might be the first stock racer to pinch a hole in his newly mandated pants.................
At least he didn't break the axle at speed. |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
in the picture, looks like he was trying to take out the tree......I might be wrong.

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!

|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Wonderful series of photographs by the photographer Roger Richards, your great eyes and that high speed shutter on that probably 8K camera gets everything in that fraction of a second captured in mid air.

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
The guy driving looks kinda like Jamie Heineman (spelling?) from Mythbusters. Christmas tree.....BUSTED. All kidding aside, I hope the guy is alright and they don't ding him with the bill.

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
It was 5 or 6 years ago at maple grove.......it was a super gas car.
|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Was it 5-6 years ago that Szilagyi got the tree?
|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
At Maple Grove, it was a corvette. Older one, I think in super street. Can't remember his real name, always called him gramps. Great guy, raced for years till then. Tom Goldman would remember!
The Wooden Shoe? was on the car |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Old injun steve and i didn't think you could remember back that far. We know who you are talking about but are keeping it under our hats. Tell chucky no dinner for him.

I heard at the track today that he IS paying for it. |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
I hope that is not the case. How can you make a racer pay for that ?
|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
The guy that took it down at t.v.d. Is still paying the track manager. LoL
|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
If they told me I had to pay for it after tearing up my stuff, then that would probably be my last time racing with NHRA.
I thought they had insurance for these types of things. Do the pros have to pay for the cones they take out, or all of the fire extinguishers used putting out their fires? |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
c'mon lee they don't even have to pay to race anymore....they would have to beat the money out of me to pay for a tree after something like that....little guys 1 NHRA 0

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
You guys poney up $500 bucks and I'll take out the tree at the Norwalk Natl Event in June. I just want my pic in Natl Dragster that I have to pay and arm and leg for every year. I'll even get out of my car and throw my helmet at the thing for laughs:)
The $500 is for the car repairs of course |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Wow I have read all the posts from Pamona and I am glad everyone finds the humour in a guy paying all the money for grade points, travel, time off,and other expenses to arrive and bend up his race car.I see how this can make you bust a nut.I for one have empathy for a fellow racer.Hope all Is well and you can get your truck fixed John.Sorry to hear of your misfortune.Kevin

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
The Vette was Herman Terpstra's Wooden Shoe S/st car. ...It was suposedly an ex Bruce Larson car ..I don't know if he;s ever put it back together after that hit. ....Soon NHRA will bring its own concrete pier to protect its tree, like the one they used to have at Bowling Green! LOL! ....saw that chunk of concrete claim Neil Mahr's roadster way back in the Seventies at the old Sportsnationals !..........I think it also was the one Jim Oddey hit with his Opel. .....Sounds like a great project for someone to compile photos of, Blows Against the Empire would be a great title ! ....Tom

Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
As far as I know we will not be asked to pay for it. I dont even know yet what thr cost of repairs will be. Only 1 LED light broke (thats why they cost so much to begin with), the electronics inside are probably still usable. The new center has already built by my sheet metal shop and powder coated and on Fed-ex to me, new sockets ordered. Should have it all back together for Phoenix.
Jeff Foster Compulink . The left rear tire/wheel cam off the truck and he made a hard left turn right to the tree. |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Yikes!
This scenario is the very definition of a "bad day at the track". Many years ago, at Englishtown during a "Sunday Sunday" Stock/Super Stock combo race with my SS/JA Duster (with only 11.5 X 29.5W Firestones), I had a similar occurence where in the left lane, just after launch, all of the studs on the left axle sheared off. The tire "spit out" the back, and I actually saw it bouncing behind me in the side mirror. Luckily, I stayed on the track surface. No fun at all. Bill Rolik SS 1514 |
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Joe Foster....a very good racer from my area and former champ in brackets and S/ST raced an early Nova....named "the Bat out a Hell" He lost a rear wheel/axle? at Atco and it caused the car to flip over and was damaged beyond repair. That car was known by everyone for it's big wheelstands but only ran high 10's.....Joe was a great guy to race with and lots of fun......He pitched his hood in the 3 or 4th round at the bracket finals one year. Everyone pitched in to beat it back straight and got it back on the car and he went on to win Pro ET......I nearly got the tree at E-town once when my old Vega with it's quirky 3-link rear suspension decided to go straight up and to the right.......got my attention....
|
Re: TREE Taken out by a rear TIRE !!!
Rich, I was there when Joes car went over at Atco, it was pretty spectacular! ...And a real shame ,as it was a really nice car. .....I change my axles every 4-5 years ,ever since I went for a ride a Maple Grove abour 18 years ago when I broke a 6 year old axle in the Willys ,and nearly got the tree,AND the gardrail. ....Tom
