Was anyone else as uncomfortable as I was...

..during Larry Dixon's top end interview with Mr. Gerrould during the Saturday night qualifying broadcast?..I felt really bad for him.

Dixon is just like a quarterback....if you get all the glory when things go good you have to suck it up and take it when it goes bad. So no, don't feel sorry for the guy.

P.S. I'm not so sure I'm liking the idea of some foreign sheik owning a race team either. Don't think I'll be a big Dixon/Al-Anabi rooter this year.

What's the difference in this guy sponsoring a race team versus Quaker State? Has he done something wrong or on some watch list here in the states? Or is it that he looks like alot of the terrorist? maybe I am reading between the lines here but your comment sounds borderline discriminatory. If the Sheik is legit then his money is golden, I don't think Alan Johnson, Larry Dixon, and Del Worsham want to race so bad that they would take money from a terrorist. Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I think you might want to re think or reword what you said there Julie.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but do you ever wonder why so many non-americans hate us????????? Why spread hatred?

Don't judge a book by its cover. I personally could care less if he or she is brown, yellow or purple or green.

I don't think these guys hate americans as it seems they have surrounded themselves with some of the best american racers out there. But to anwer your questions, yes alot of the mid east folks dislike americans and will always do that, we can only hope AJ's alliance will help bridge that gap.

Sorry, I did not mean my comments to sound discriminatory as I am anything but. I have many friends and clients of various ethnicities. Call me old-fashioned but I prefer racecar sponsors to be companies (preferable automotive related) that are using drag racing as a venue to showcase/sell their products as opposed to individuals who have money to burn in a hobby.

No female with any brains would ever feel comfortable around any foreign oil sheik. Nor should they: The countries that house them treat and value women worse than dogs.

Julie Jordan needs to rethink and reword absolutely nothing.

Dixon knew the wire fell off that's why he never stepped on the throttle again.
Had to keep those butterflies shut in case of low flying birds.

I agree with you Julie, but on top of that I'd wonder, why couldn't they use a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford body for their funny car instead of a Toyota???

Rob Petrie E395 02-09-2009 11:23 PM

Re: Was anyone else as uncomfortable as I was...

I am pretty sure that the reason they used the Toyota body is because AJ has something to do with the design or distrubution of it. I remember reading or hearing about it last year but cant remember where.

Once again everyone is entitled to their opinion however you two are basically saying all men from the mid east are the same in so many words. How much do you really know about their culture? You can't generalize a person based on what their culture does, not everyone follows suit. So for you to say she should be uncomfortable around them is a out of line because you or Julie don't know the owners/partners in Al-Anabi racing.
I try to give everyone a fair shake and not judge then by their "culture". So let me get your's and Julie's thought process correct using myself as an example; I have a friend who has several Confederate Flag's on his vehicle and tow vehicle, should I as an African American be uncomfortable around him because of this? this is basically what you said that because of the way people in the mid east treat their women she shouldn't be comfortable. If I missed something let me know.

Because Alan Johnson's owns the rights to the mold for Toyota just as John Force does for Ford and Chevis out of money and who knows what the deal is with Chrysler. The Big three is strapped so why run something that want pay you or assist you? Running a Big three make doesn't make you more american or put money on the table.

If the guys a racer he's ok by me! Gotta admit, he doesn't mess around, he went out and got the best so he could have bad fast race cars! Not to mention he's giving alotta people a job. Thats money coming back into the US economy and even better in Drag Racing! I bet their dragstrip in Qatar is pretty nice! Maybe someday IHRA will have a national event there :P

Congratulations. You and everyone else who shares this opinion are a little bit racist. But since it's middle eastern people.... it's embraced on this site rather than shunned.

You have no problem with the swedes that were in Pomona running a funny car, no problem with the brit or the german (i think urs is german..... someone correct me?) or that john force is sponsored by Castrol... which is owned by BP.

Your only problem is with the fact that someone from the middle east is footing the bill. So you obviously have some sort of racial bias toward people from that part of the world.

Qatar happens to be an ALLY of our country. Maybe you ought to do some reasearch.

I will give the Sheik some credit
I did not see any Stickers on either of his cars.
He's not racing for the money,The guy loves Drag Racing.
I have heard this from a friend of mine who crews for Mike Castalano

Maybe he could buy NHRA and save us sportsman racers

Re: Was anyone else as uncomfortable as I was...

..the intent of my post was to point out the seriously awkward moment when Gerould was telling Larry he was not going to be in the "show"...That was sooo ****ed up ..his team didn't inform him this was the only chance to qualify, do what you can to get from A to B..he had to learn about the qualifying format change from an ESPN commentator...New team chemistry blues. It's no secret they will have success this season and so on.

The rest of you all just calm the **** down before someone gets their feeling hurt. :)

Pasted from the U.S. Census bereau.

"White. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. It includes people who indicate their race as 'White' or report entries such as Irish, German, Italian, Near Easterner, Arab, or Polish.

I think Julie is white. According to the U.S. governement the Shiek is white. Stop throwing the race card around. There are better ways to pass your time.

I like how he said at first that he just lifted when it went in to tire shake then he blamed it on a coil wire but watching the replay I never saw the butterflys open after he lifted!?!

He could probably buy NHRA, IHRA, NASCAR, and the state of California but he's not that crazy. He is here having fun like the rest of us wished we could do and loves drag racing. Drag racing is supposed to be FUN and not life and death. ONLY in America does a person get to really persue his or her dreams. Im glad he decided to spend his money here in the U.S.A. mostly on AMERICAN made equiptment.

We need all the teams we can get on the circuit, and it happens to benefit our economy a little bit too. We should be applauding these guys.

If you want to feel bad for someone how about us sportsman racers who only had one qualifying run and were barely on the schedule the rest of the weekend. Because there was only one run (except stock who got two) some guys didn't get a run. Welcome to our world Larry!!!

You have nothing to fear of some flag. You can walk down the streets of Philadelphia, Mississippi, and the odds of you being accosted by some old klanner animal, like Lawrence Rainey, would be zero.

Now, on the other hand, as we speak, sharia law is quite active in the Middle East, even Qatar. Please tell me I don’t have to explain sharia law to you.

Racist? That word means absolutely nothing anymore. It’s been so overused and misused. Now, if you wish to call me a “culturalist”, I’ll plead guilty. There are some cultures that are downright loathsome.

No one should have had to tell Larry anything, he should have been able to figure it out by the fact that it was Saturday and almost dark and looking like more rain. He just made a goof, it happens, I'm sure he will force that thing to the finish line on every single run the rest of the year now! They can afford to tear some stuff up LOL
