The GT/MA that ran -1.41 under on the first SS qualifying, will it get the 3.25% automatic HP hit. As it did not show up on Tuesday, anyone know what happens?

Did he withdraw or not? If he withdrew, then he got credit for the entry and he technically wasn't there. Sounds like a legal issue. Also, how can that motor have a manual trans GT factor, when it only came in a Caprice? |

Hello Mark
I do not have any inside information. I know a bunch left before 1st round and since they were a long way from home, and I understand. I believe that the 265 was originally an automatic combination. Paul |
Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
The Hp per the way I read the rule is AUTOMATIC once the run is made...weather he withdraws or not!
It's really about time that combo got hit, as he's always been REAL FAST with that particular engine. As for transmission---I believe the "Any" engine/transmission combo takes care of that. I doubt 7Hp (if that's what it is) will slow it down THAT MUCH. Should be something like 70/75 lbs...so, a big -1.34 or so under now....LOL Good run....should of shut off at 1000' but, good run! |
Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
So does this HP hit apply to cars running the 265 in traditional Super Stock?

No. Jim

The HP change only applies to this specific engine which is a late model 265. Paul |

Jim & Paul
Thanks for that info. Just curious, how does that combo come to get 265 cid? Is it a 262 block? Thanks Allan |

Thanks Allan[/quote] The Combo is from a 95 96 full size Caprice I believe, the 262 is a V6 I am fairly sure. Paul |
Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
Nope, it's a unique block that shares a number of the features of an LT1 block. Specifically, it has provision for reverse-flow cooling, a gear driven water pump, the infamous Optispark ignition, roller lifters, and more. The good thing is that it has exactly the same bore and stroke as a '55 or '56 Chevy. We know what it take to make that combination run.

Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
There was a 262 small block chev. Produced from 1974-76. 3.671" bore x 3.1" stroke.
I need to do some research on GT classes. The last time I ran my car they were SS/GT. A lot has changed since then. Allan |
Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
I was pitted next to Ron. The run did not count, it is an automatic transmission, and it did not get hit.

Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
So if a car goes -1.40 or faster does tech have to tear down that vehicle to confirm he/she is legal before horsepower is added to that combo? Otherwise how does one confirm the run was legit in the first place?

Allen,
Bingo!! That's something of a sore spot around the AHFS. That issue is unresolved. c |

Re: Pomona GT/MA (-1.41 under) does it get HP ???
Ron,s motor combo came from a New York taxi cab and was the brainchild of him and Gene Bichlmeier. It has a 3 in stroke and is basic lt1 setup but is an iron head motor. The reverse cooling is a problem with them as any lt1 because of the extra water holes in the deck and cly head so runing a aftermarket block is not a bolt together deal. It also also has a 5.8 or 9 something long rod that was just reaproved by NHRA not to long ago. In running GT/MA you best have your act togrther with the likes of bob dennis and kevin murpfy with there caddy motors then don,t foget about town and shaffer with 2bl 350s this group was always on the top of the sheet. His run was made in bracket trim and was the first run on the engine since last april when he broke it. All for not when the weather deal took over. I know Ron feels bad over the deal and will move on. But is not our class perfromace based or that the way it started out to be. Its not for us to shoot arrows at him but to shake his hand and say way to go you done good. Way to go Ron and call if you guys need bail money on your trip {wish I was there}. Tom

And, I stand corrected. Obviously he did get hit with horsepower. Verified that with Gene Bichelmier today at National Open in Phoenix.
