Going to Baton Rouge?

Anybody here going? If so, does anybody know, or know how to find out, where the holding lot is located? I can't find it on ihra.com (big suprise) nor State Capitol's website.

Thanks, Ed

Did you try contacting the track via phone?

Jimmy, I didn't. I'll try that tomorrow at work. I was given Frank Kohutek's email address, so I just emailed him also. I'll post the location when I find out. I would have thought State Capitol's website would have that, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks!
Ed

At statecapitoldragway.com if you click contact on the upper right of your screen it gives you the phone and fax number as well as an email address to the track manager Gary Carter.

Sharon from IHRA just emailed me, they haven't secured permission for the use of their "favorite" (her term) spot yet. She says it will be on IHRA.com as soon as they know.

Thanks, Ed

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

I had thought of going instead of Orlando. But with no contingency postings to amount to much how can a racer afford to go except if they are local?

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

As a follow up on IHRA contingency my comparison--Pro Am in S/S $400 available--National event $2100---Nhra Divisional $3100-----National $13800---Down almost 20 decals for National events---and still not paid for all from 08.

I do want to thank everyone in advance who does go and thanks for your support. Come on and lets have some fun. It's up to the racers to keep the sport going that we love so much. Hope to see ya there !!!

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

I love to do what my heart says Danny. But ,for the most part, can only do what my bank account allows. I used to race locally when I had to win to buy gas to get home. Just like alot of other people in years past I went the extra mile to race somewhere. Today is a differentdeal. I'm going to skip Baton Rouge because I can't afford to go. I have been there before and know it will be a great time. I'll have to wait for Budds Creek or Rockingham. It's a shame the contingency program fell so fast and hard. An 80-90% cut is really steep.

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

For those of you coming to state capitol raceway in baton rouge, the google map location on the ihra website is incorrect as of today. It shows the location on la. Hwy. 1 south near brusly, la. The track is on us hwy. 190 west, and it's actually closer to erwinville, la., approx. 1 1/2 miles east of erwinville, la. The address on google is correct just the location marker is wrong. I checked map quest and it was correct. I have been the track chaplain at scr for the past 20+ years and look forward to seeing you all here. Craft

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

Heck, Tim, no more rounds than I went last year, contingencies don't matter. I go for the fun, If I drove like you and your family I would worry more about the purse. Having a harder time with the lights since I "came back" than getting the car competitive. Thirty years older evidently makes a difference. I last drag raced in 1979.

My business is off some so far this year, so I don't know that I'll be going as much as last year anyway. I just sold a pile of used race parts, I'll use that money to pay for this trip. I would like to go to No Problem a couple weeks later, think I'll have enough left for that one also. Not getting into my retirement money to go racing.

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

I understand Tim. I'm pretty lucky to live in N.C. and close to all the div 9 races. That is why i did not want to work any of the div 9 races , so i could race. Do it while i can . Them birthdays seem like they are coming quicker and quicker. I will see you at MIR and the ROCK. Good Luck where ever you race.

I haven't been there since 1979 or earlier. Seemed like we still had NHRA WCS events there in '79. I can't remember a div 4 race without Joe's Southland Doge Hemi cars.

Btw, did a gentlman from Ark buy Sonny's Aspen, or is there still another fast SS/JA Dodge in div 4?

I was kinda hoping someone in Sweden would buy that thing. :D

Wow, I don't remember suites being there. Did they come alone after 1979, or am I even more senile than I thought?

Re: Going to Baton Rouge?

Favorite story about the track was @ Cajon Nationals after the drivers meeting about the possibility of picking up snakes with parachutes after making the turn, Bob Glidden came all the way to the scales to let Etta shake em out. Also Bruce Larson's first Funny Car National event win.

I should have expected Adger to answer my question with another question! LOL!

Lemme guess. Your throttle stuck in reverse and you mowed 'em down with the roadster.

That's actually a tough one but, if my failing memory serves, weren't they torn down for the "Dukes of Hazzard" movie shoot?

It was May, 1985 at the Cajun Nationals, I was low qualifier in Tom Ward's Gator Nationals Stock winner 7 passenger Plymouth wagon. The car was so heavy the track scales couldn't weigh it! Good times! Jim

Bret! Where have you been? Thought you were dead! Glad I was wrong. LOL. Jim
