"DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
The challenger got the "nod" yesterday. Lets get the 6.1L Hemi go head to head with the CJ Mustang, and also the camaro package is dead. ( that's PERIOD )...Luke

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
What do you mean (the camaro pkg is dead)
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
I guess you mean GM will not release the body in white cars?Maybe I'm wrong but if GM presented the argument to the government that these cars are only a body with no implied warranty that would be sold for pure profit I can't see any objection to letting them market them.Build, sell,no warranty, future parts sales with no warranty.Pure profit and free advertising.
Let's hope that the Challengers will bring the CJ's out in the open and factored a little more real world. Disclaimer : Waa waa waa waa waa waa waa............................................... ................................. |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Junior and Ed
No Camaro like body in white or ZL-1 type cars ( only 50 made stuff ). |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
I look on NHRA did not see the Challenger in the stock car classifaction. Were was this published
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
west coast
The guys ( NHRA ) were in Auburn Hills yesterday for a final look and it's a done deal. This is going to be good HEMI vs. COBRA JET, let the whining begin...Luke |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
If they build a new Camaro for SALE to the public, there WILL be a camaro to race the "other two"
Some one will build one or 10 or 50 what ever it takes. From what I heard it is gigantic compared to the old ones so maybe just put them all in TOP/STK and let them see if a 69 Camaro can handle them... I could see me being re interested in racing if that could happen. I imagine someone would like a new Vette better but A camaro would be a more parallel car. |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
dick ,if they let the zo6 in,how loud would everyone cry...i dont see any way the new hemi will run with the new stang unless nhra allows it in a colt...
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
So far, I haven't seen a new hemi I would call fast. 13 seconds off the show room floor at best. Do they have something new? The new Cobra Jet would turn one of those things every way but loose.

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Ed,
FYI, "Judy was .08 quicker at the 1000 so she would have ran a 11.16 or faster. corrected to sub 10.50." This was from a post in reference to the race Judy Lily had with Don Garlits at the Mile Highs. |

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
i think this is getting to be very exciting. it's great that there is some factory rivalary going on again.
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
its hard to watch the new camaro not being avalible in white versions, who would have thought G.M would do this, sad to see
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Here's a thought. The car companies are trying to get the younger generation to buy on Monday and stop buying Rice cars. It not for us or nhra, they are trying to get back to when car sales were driven by youth but the price one has to pay is far more than 40 years ago. They are grabbing at straws here. It will make for some fun racing this year.

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
I hear the Hemi Challenger is available from the Hurst Corp. in a supercharged version. In keeping a level playing field, I was wondering if maybe it would be approved? (lmao)
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Good point on Hurst. Hurst has long been recognized by NHRA w/ Oldsmobile. Hurst is offering supercharger options on the Challenger with both the 5.7L & 6.1L Hemi's. If Hurst does petition NHRA for allowance of their own Challenger, I would suggest a 480 HP rating. How did I come up with that?
425 HP / 5.4L supercharged Ford = 78.70 HP per liter. 78.70 HP x 6.1L supercharged Hemi = 480 HP. Simple as that! Saleen has also entered the Dodge Challenger tuner market. Saleen Mustangs have been recognized by NHRA as production vehicles so I would assume incorporating the Challengers by Saleen into the class guide shouldn't be an issue either. Regarding the 6.1L Hemi SRT8 engine, I've mentioned it before but feel it's worth mentioning again. MACH Development took a 6.1L crate engine with full factory exhaust manifolds and front drive accesories, added larger injectors and provided their own tune. Idled "like a kitten" as he said and ripped 550 HP out of the factory 425 HP engine. This is not a blue-printed engine, it's right out of the MOPAR crate with the oil even provided in the assembly. The "race" 6.1L Hemi provided with the Drag-Pak Challenger is an improvement on the above mentioned street Hemi. I have no doubt a CJ500 vs. Race Hemi will be competitive; and exciting! I read a Motor Trend article yesterday where GM was looking at political correctness in the current green world environment and elected to drop the 2010 Z-28 which was slated to use the 550HP Cadilac CTS-V supercharged engine (ZL1 'Vette engine de-tuned from 634 HP). Other concerns mentioned by GM was they had doubts (concerns?) about traction with such an engine in the RWD chassis. Those that voted "for change" stand in a circle and say Yea! |

When will we see the first one on a qualifing sheet?
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
There are three engines available for the Challenger package car, 6.1L & 5.7L Hemi and the 5.9L Magnum Wedge.

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
By the way, the challenger cars are built by Roush industries ( yes Jack Roush ) and that's were Don Garlits car is awaiting to get the MPR treatment...Luke
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
How does a car get the MPR treatment when its at Roush?
Its a dang shame GM isn't building a Camaro stocker. Not sure why you can't offer it at a price you can make money at for it and see how many orders you get and then build it? Whys everything gotta be so complicated?.. |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
"Whys everything gotta be so complicated?."
Always has been with GM. Takes GM twice as long or longer to get new product out! By this time GM has missed the boat. Ford or whoever had done sold the market!! To big and to many cheifs!!!!! . |

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Great job on the graphics, simple but effective.
What engine size is that and what are some of the specs? Obviously not an NHRA S/SS package but impressive anyways! |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
what kind of car is under the cover in the 15th picture don the list?
nice looking challenger. I am like Jeff, I'd like to know what engine that is?? |
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Before you worry about the camaro, think about GM even being around-here's what their auditors' think

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Here is a link to more info about Doug Duell, owner of the Challenger http://www.evansvillechrysler.com/race.htm#race_top

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
My car is built just like the Drag Pak car. It was built by Matt Wright of BRC Racecraft here in Newburgh, Indiana. Currently it has 6.1 Hemi made into a 426 inch motor. This motor is made to bracket race or some of the 6.1 shootout for All Mopar events. Now the car is NHRA legal, Indy Cylinder Head is building a stocker motor. I will have the car on display at the Indy Swap meet this weekend. I will be racing it at the Mopars at the Strip in two weeks. My first NHRA racing will be the points meet in Indy in April. Thanks, Doug Duell

Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Factory Drag Car War! Very cool. I cannot wait to see how this plays out!
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
I hope they get the factor correct on this car, what do all the Cobra Jet haters think will suffice on the HP? 750 HP? Or should they just make it illegal for Stock?
|
Re: "DRAG PACK" Challenger gets NHRA approval
Doug,
Are you going to run your car as a standard Challenger or as a Package Car version ? The Package Car has a unique engine configuration and factor for all three versions. John |
