Live from Gainesville
Sorry folks, I removed all the post in this thread except for this one. Not sure how a screwed it up, but i did.
Well it looks like all the sportsmen racers are here and park. Lots of room for everyone. Cruising around I found Billy Ness choking Ed Fernandez, while Don Himes looks on with amusement. After driving for 18 hours or so from NJ, I can understand why Billy is choking Ed. They came down to help Don with his stocker and get away from the cold. I also found Dan Fletcher's Camaro's bathing in the sun. The new paint scheme looks great. I like the orange and black, but I guess you all know that from the colors of Class Racer. I hope I can have more info tomorrow about what we are here for, instead of just the weather and parking. Sorry for the boring reports. http://classracer.com/classforum/att...1&d=1236802148 http://classracer.com/classforum/att...1&d=1236802148 |

Sorry guys, I still can't believe I did it. I hope I don't get banned for a week. The admin can be a real...... well you know.
Dave, they did come down in Billy's Geo. That thing not only gets great fuel mileage, I think it makes fuel. Knowing Billy, it probably does. Very good Jack, your a funny dude. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Hey Ken, I thought we've been over this before! Now that I have met you, I know that the Moderator could chew up a skinny guy like you in a heartbeat! Forget Admin! Watch your P's and Q's! Jim

Re: Live from Gainesville
Today's weather is not as good as Orlando. This morning it was 1200 ft with high humidity, 80%. First run a 9:30 for me was allot slower then I thought I should go, I missed the tune up. Second run was better but the air was a 1000 ft worse. It looks like most of the fast cars are staying away from the dreaded 1.15 trigger. Our third run should be later today.
The super stocks were flying, they don't seem to be holding back much, class is to tomorrow morning after stocks first round, they were just called for there second qualifying. The only causality I have seen was Sam Biondo driving Phil's Hatari Firebird.. They hurt the motor and I don't think they have a spare. Bob, no Challengers insight, if I see one I will get a picture. Hope to have more later. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
It appears that the Stock & S/S car counts are down a bunch. I`ve only been to the Gators once, in 94 as a spectator, but I remember that at that race there were more cars than the 128 car limit for both classes.

Is Iocono really in C/S? Larry |

Re: Live from Gainesville
Larry,
Mike put a stick in the car so he would have less heads up races. He was tired of having to step up it up. He loves driving the stick also. Tom, Ed does not smoke anymore. But I'm sure he was the reason for the sub 50 mpg. Day is over, it was a warm day for racing, but I'm not complaining. The temp went to 86 and the altitude was 2500ft at is worst. Stock is first out tomorrow, 8 am. It will be tough dial, but we are all in the same boat. Super Stock class is right after us. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
great job ken ,is ed bednaz car realy gold.with no decals?
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
Yes and it looks really nice
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
With the stick in the Ford Mike will have to get some taller jack stands so he will have enough room to work on the clutch.

Ray, yes no decals. Its looks great, but I just could not bring myself to take off the decals. If I ever got lucky enough to get to the finals, I would not be a happy camper throwing that kind of money away.
Below are some pics from the last qualifying shot for super stock. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Ken,
Looks like you are in the money since you have a bye next round. Go get 'em! Patsy & Larry |

Thanks Larry, I need all the luck I can get. First round started on time. It was tough to dial the car. I ran a ton slow, only thing that saved me was my unusually good light. Bobby was holding, but I think it was because he did not make any full runs during qualifying. The temp was 64, but the humidity was 90%, after my run there was water coming off the top my car, it was humid. The tree was real tough to see. The sunrise was right in your face and the way they block the tree you could not see the bulbs very well. When they started to come down it was like racing at night, bright as can be, at least for me anyway.
Here are some pictures after first round of Super Stock class., they ran right after us. The red '79 Aspen of Lloyd Wofford looks to be headed for the barn. The last picture is of Byron Worner after his SS/IA class win. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
That red Aspen of Lloyd Wofford, that is (was?) Sonny Stancil's car, right? I hope we haven't gained another SS/JA Didge here in Div 4 that runs like that. :D
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
I think it earned a trip to the barn with three other Super Stockers. Looks really good going down the track too.
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
I see the red dodge of L.Wofford is in the dq. area of rnd.4 qualifiying now .
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
Can anyone back north tell me what the weather is like at home??? It sucks here. Way too hot and humid!! I hate having to use sunblock in March lol!!!

Re: Live from Gainesville

Re: Live from Gainesville
I drove to G-ville late last night, saw stock first round and SS class elims today too.....Adkins was in tear down along with a 67/8 red camaro, I think Rodriguez was the last name. There was a pile of people around the car all talking Spanish, maybe someone knows who I am talking about. Had the intake and carb off the car, the red aspen Dodge was there as well. Seems like there was another car too, I can't recall, only 1 hour of sleep last night (I wish I had a good excuse for that, however I don't,lol).
Traction must have been good, lots of guys were coming up on the wheelie bars HARD and unloading the tires. Maybe they made some changes, I dunno... One silver mid 80's camaro, hood scoop car, I think SS/AS but can't be absolutely certain, came up really hard and made a sharp right turn from the left lane ...fortunately missed the tree but did get the 60 ft timers and the ESPN camera. I don't think the car was hurt, I did see it in the pits with the right front wheel off later. SS/B was very entertaining, AH Adkins won it with driving. There were lots of good runs for class today. I wish I could remember more of it, maybe I will after I get some sleep. Somebody with a newer Dodge in SS/BS or BM is bad fast, I do know that. I think it went 160mph. if not, ptretty close. I should have gotten a sheet to go by, choose not to so I wouldn't miss any action. |

Re: Live from Gainesville
Ken, Please tell me that the engine did not let go. I'm hoping that you "JUST" spun the tires.

That would have just been a mistake. Those guys don't need to cheat. The right carb probably won't slow that car down enough (if any) to help me. That thing is bad fast. |
Re: Live from Gainesville
Just spoke to Ken and he spun, motor is OK.
|
Re: Live from Gainesville
Thanks Evan.

Re: Live from Gainesville
Larry, we are okay. I do appreciate your concern. They were putting to much water down, and the run before me dragged water halfway to the starting line. I moved over to do the burnout and did not get back in the grove on the starting line. The car went to the center line, I stayed with it as long as I could. I was staring right at Grace Howell's door and the center line, and I new I had to lift, I probably stayed into it longer then I should have.
This is my last post from Gainesville, I had great time and can't wait until the next race. I hope everyone enjoyed the updates and pictures. The weather has been great and although the economy is not doing well, you would have never known it by looking in the parking lot. The track is full of fans. The camp sites are full and people are having a good time. |
