Bob Pott passes away
I am sad to report that Bob Pott has passed away today. He was a Div-7 Stock racer form Az. I have known Bob for years he was always a good racer and friend. Everytime we raced out west he always had a smile and was always a joy to talk with him about Fords. Please keep Rusty,Kelly and the rest of the Pott family in your prayers through this tough time. The dragstrip in heaven has one more Ford racer on the qualifying sheet!!! Thank you for your thoughts and prayers I will post more when services are set.

Re: Bob Pott passes away
We have to all take comfort in the fact that Bob is no longer in pain. As Steven said he is racing in heaven.
He always had a postive attitude, was a true friend and a man with integrity. He will be missed greatly by all whose lives he touched. Funeral arrangements are not final - tentative arrangements are the weekend of the Houston Natls at Bob & Penny's church in Sedona. Please keep Penny, Kelly and all the family in your thoughts and prayers. For those of us who are able to attend the funeral, I would like to suggest we all wear a little yellow (either in clothing or armbands) to honor his years of racing and his love of his mustang Ol Yeller. Re: Bob Pott passes away
I am very sad to hear this. I spoke with Bob at the Pomona race early this year. He was happy and looked like he was recovering well from his illness. He was very excited about Kelly driving his car. He always spoke with a smile on his face. It is an honor to know him. Rest in peace Bob, you will be missed....................

Re: Bob Pott passes away
This truly is a sad day, Bob was one of the reason I like to go stock racing. Hangin with him and his daughter Kelly, Dennis Alvey, Joe, Richie Pauley was all part of the ride. It will definitely be different without Bob. God Bless ya Bob.....

Re: Bob Pott passes away
Bob was one of the nicest, most-honest and enthusiastic cats that I've met in the years that I've followed Stock Eliminator. A Ford man through-and-through, and one of the toughest racers out there in a stick-shift Mustang. I'm very saddened by his passing, but, I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet and get to know such a genuinely good person.
I will always remember Bob Pott, and pray that God watch over his family, as all of us move forward with his spirit in our hearts. This one makes me sad. My deepest condolences. |
Re: Bob Pott passes away
Bob, you have been a true warrior from the racing scene in Arizona, definetly not a racer to be taken lightly and I'm sure his daughter will fill those shoes just as her dad taught her. My understanding is he really wanted to see his friend Dennis Alvey set the NHRA national record as Bob contributed significantly towards making that 428CJ fast. Dennis did set the A/S record a few weeks ago in Tucson. Maybe that was one of the last things Bob needed to do before he left this earth.
A true racer... |
Re: Bob Pott passes away
Another real reminder of how precious life is. Too many of our friends are leaving us too early. For me, Bob exemplifies what living is all about. Always upbeat, always willing to help, always giving his all.....We all should be inspired by Bob. I can't think of a more genuine person. You could see the sincerity and goodness after just a few words of conversation.
I was fortunate enough to really get to know Bob when my close friend Ward Alston built his 88 Mustang Stocker.....I think you know how the rest of the story goes. Ward and Bob became very close over the years. I could go on for a while about such a great man but I will end by saying that I will reflect often on the image of a big in stature man with a hearty laugh dropping by my pit area on his "signature" black pit motorcycle making time for a quick race update-usually to check on the Ford guy:-) and always to exchange a few laughs. On behalf of my family, my wife, Stefanie, sons, Brandyn and Blayke and Dad, Paul, I would like to extend thoughts and prayers to Bob's wife, Kelly and Rusty, Shannon and Eric and the entire Pott Family. Sincerely, Bryan Phillips |
Re: Bob Pott passes away
I met Bob through Bryan and Ward when I first started racing. He was always a super nice guy to me even though I was a rookie racer and really didn't know anything. I am sorry to hear the news here about his passing. He will be missed by a lot of people.

Re: Bob Pott passes away
My Man Bob-
I can say he was my West coast dad. He was one of the key people that helped me build and support my 88MustangGT Stocker. He always took the time to give me great advice on the car, whether at the track or our long conversations when we were both on the road- The key to Bob was his love for his family. Bryan, KJ and I always talk about the key to life is family and he deeply cared for his. Racing for me has been more than the car, it's been the wonderful experiences I have had with my race family. My Pops, and my wonderful wife Fumiko and I all send love to the Pott family. Take care my man- Ward |
Re: Bob Pott passes away
Bummer to hear about this. I met him at Vegas and he seemed like a real decent guy. And a Ford racer and stick racer is too valuable a commodity to lose. Hopefully his legacy will live on a long time through Kelly. I hope she gets to win an event real soon to honor him.

Bob was a great friend, & mentor. His passing is hard to take for all of us. I find some relief however, in knowing that his very miserable fight with that illness has ended, and his suffering in that fight is no longer. His heritage and legacy will live on through his daughter I am sure. Kelly he is very proud of you, as he always was of all of his family. My condolences, & thoughts are with the entire Pott family.
A very nice dedication to Bob, is in the current issues of National Dragster, by his great friends, Dennis & Kelley Alvey, as the current A/S record holders. Very nice my friends! My apologies go out to you DA, for your loss in this as well. Bob, Thanks for all the inspiration my man! The FORD camp will never be without you!! RIP, my friend. Andy |
