Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Its for a 24 foot enclosed. Currently has Titan C rated 205 75 15's which are decent enough, but you can only go 50 lb's in them.
What I have found in my area(Ma) Towmaster....at VIP Carlysle.....D rated, still on a container en route Any suggestions from those who tow on the smaller scale? Thanks Eric |
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Carlisle is a good brand. I always went to Discount Tire and bought the cheapest I could afford and the road hazard also. But then again, I never towed a heavy weight with it either.

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
All 15 ST trailer tires are made offshore. I have had blow outs with Carlysle and Titan. I also had Michelins when they made a 15" trailer service tire and that was easily the best. I have Goodyears now after I blew out a Titan......the Goodyears are made in China...so were the Titans....and the Carlysles were junk......There is no clear choice as they all have failures. They need to be replaced after 2 or 3 years, inflated properly and inspected regularly for tread issues. The Carlysles had treads seperating after a couple years. The Titans were E rated and one blew out on a cool evening after just a few miles on the intrerstate so heat was not much of a factor and they were fully inflated......16" LT tires is the way to go.......

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
I would agree with the 16's. I kept poking around, for a couple months. I bought some 16 wheels at Southwestwheel, just gray with holes, nothing exotic( $40 ea), and then I got a set of Ironman 215/85/16's These are 10 ply and they ride so much better and stable than the 15s. I put 80-85 lbs and they have made the trip to La., and back almost 1400 miles and they are still perfect. No a single lb down yet. They are 1- 1/2 " taller than the 15's I took off. Thats it. They fit good. If you gonna buy tires, buy that. Tires were just over $100 ea., here, locally. I dont have a clue where they are made or who actually makes them though. Right now, I really dont care.

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
I had trouble with Carlisle C and D rated tires not lasting on a heavy OPEN trailer! There have been a few discussions over the years on different forums where the majority of posters agreed that Carlisle was junk.
I have friends who own a tire store sell me Towmasters and/or some other brands with good results. I don't remember more details since I started using an enclosed trailer with 6,000lb axles and 16" tires a few years ago. But I would stay with at least a D rating regardless of brand. |

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
There are no good 15" trailer tires. Do yourself a favor. I assume you have 6 hole wheels. Get some 6 hole 16" wheels ( aluminums are about 80 unless you find some blems). 16" 10 ply (load range E), run them at least 60 lbs and forget your troubles. Most wheels are 16 X 7, or you can get premium Am Racing 16 X 8 Polished for a good bit more. I have blown too many tires to talk about. And any tire marked trailer special run away from. They are the king of junk.

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Dang, didn't know that Carlisle was that bad now. At least I got some good heads up from you guys, Thanks.
And I agree that 16" is the only way to go. |
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
If they helped the mileage, I didnt see it, mainly because I was running a little hotter coming home ! It does seem to be more stable and smoother.

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Has anyone used the Denman Radial 15" E rated 80 psi trailer tire? It doesn't seem to be handled by many dealers here in Canada but is apparently available factory direct and they claim to be able to get you replacement service quickly. Can you believe them? Are they any good as a 15" replacement?
|
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
I have the 15" denman's. Only starting on my second year with them.
I have a friend that has a heavier boc trailier than mine (dirt car, observation roof, loads of spare tires) that runs them and he hasn;t had any trouble yet with them. made in Mexico I think. |
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Yes I was aware they are made in Mexico. Can anyone else comment on this tire or availabilty or service or price. Going to a 16" is no doubt the best cure, but there must be a better 15" alternative.

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
After I blew out a couple of Goodyears I checked around and "Towmaster" tires had a good reputation and I bought a set. Good luck so far but I have not got that many miles on them. I run them on a 24ft Classic RTX. The are sold by a company named Greenball. They can be made most anywere in the world. I was told mine would be made in India but when I got them they had been made in Canada. I can't remember the dealer I got them from but could find out if it was important.
When I was doing the search on Greenball I was suprised to see that Jeg's is selling them now. Good Luck, Bill http://www.greenball.com/ |

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
I had to stick with15's couldnt find 16's with correct offset had good luck with maxxis trailer tires
|
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
I have had good luck with the maxxis. I never could get the goodyears to hold up. I put 12 goodyears on in one season. I just replaced with a new set of maxxis because of a blowout but i got to checking and the old maxxis had more than 50000 miles on them and were about 6 years old and my trailer sets in the yard not inside. I dont think you can find a better 15" trailer tire. Hope this helps..............clarence woodham

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
If you stay with 15", the Maxxis load range E at 80 psi seems to be the best, but as someone once said, the best 15" is not as good as the worst 16".

Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
OK --so who sells 16 in wheels with a 4.5 in bolt circle 5 lug??? Comp 387
|
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Many Jeep vehicles have 16" wheels with 4.5" BP.
|
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Offset would be the problem there, with the Jeep wheels, I think. Dick, you can get other hubs, to go to a 4 3/4, if you can find those. I dont know I didnt look for those though. Mine are 6 lug.
If you have a 3500 lb axle , just find a 8 ply 15" LT tire, like a 215/80 or 85 or so. |
Re: Best 15 inch trailer tires currently are?
Well after many calls and inquiries I'm still not getting a lot of answers on the Maxxis tire availablity in Canada. Apparently Kal-tire here handles these trailer tires but only the 8 ply not a 10 ply. I've seen them advertised on some sites as made in Canada but the Canadian source referred to them as made by Cheng-Shin Tire of China. Go figure. They are also sold by Discount Tire in the USA and they offer a 3 year free replacement deal for an additional $16.00 each with free shipping in the continental US. Has anyone bought from them and used this deal?
