Stocker driveshaft

The rulebook says "Aluminum driveshaft prohibited except OEM". Does this mean NO aluminum driveshaft if the car did not have an aluminum driveshaft originally? - or does it mean that any car can have an aluminum driveshaft, as long as it is a factory piece, and not an aftermarket piece?

I always thought this was a BS rule! I got cracked with a nice 3 1/2 inch aluminum years back .My beef was that it was safer then some of those pencil sticks that automatics run !! I would rather chunk a aluminum one then steel.Aluminum is legal for any stocker in IHRA :)

Re: Stocker driveshaft

So the rules say aluminum driveshafts are prohibited if not OEM.
But how often does Tech check for aluminum driveshafts ??
Or is it just a random check ???

They slid under a few stockers in D7 last year with a magnet, I do not know what the outcome was.

Wouldn't it seem reasonable if IHRA/NHRA would cross-reference across the board?
Rodney says: "Can't we all just get along? "

Re: Stocker driveshaft

While I would love to have one too, I think it is pretty clear from NHRA that it your particular car of choice did not have one from the factory, you can't put one in.

Far be it from me to cause any thread drift, but in the name of historical accuracy, when quoting the great Rodney King, who was NOT, by the way, related to either Larry King or Sky King, it is important to get his words exact: Can’t we all get along?

The word “just” was not included by Rodney.

Rodney lives down the street from me. He said it. Who's Rodney Kink?

Re: Stocker driveshaft

I think there's a better chance of Rodney being related to ML King,...or Don King

BUT........ARE THEY REALLY CHECKING ???
One guy suggested wrapping it in a very thin sheet of metal so a magnet would stick to it.
But it seems like that would come undone after a few runs......CREATING HAVOC & DAMAGE ! ":-(

the rule book doesn't say you can't run one made from carbon fiber.

Yes it does

Re: Stocker driveshaft

No CARBON FIBER driveshafts!!! No aluminum driveshafts unless OEM---says nothing about mixing a shaft from one year to another tho---- my take on it--Comp 387

Re: Stocker driveshaft

Before they put the wording in the rule book roughly 10 yrs. ago regarding aluminum driveshafts in older cars, I installed one and did a back-to-back test and picked up absolutely zilch in e.t. The same race I tested it at, they were using a magnet to check the driveshafts on every stocker that went across the scales. At the end of that year, they banned them on the older cars (that never had one as O.E.M.). Needless to say, that driveshaft suddenly became a rather large and expensive door stop.

Little engined cars seem to love them...

Re: Stocker driveshaft

Sorry Ed, I sold the driveshaft to a bracket racer quite some time ago.
