The weekend in numbers

well it looks like the economy has not totally crunched drag racing as of yet.
Doing the stats there is some busy weekend and this is one of them, plus having my son home from the Army.
I do the stats for Alcohol classes, Top eliminators, Comp, Super Stock & Stock, here are the numbers from this weekends races I'm doing stats for.
D1-2 Maple Grove 346 (TAD,TAFC, TD,TS, Comp, SS & Stock)
D3 NO Bowling Green 112 (SS & Stk only)
D5-2 Brainerd, MN 162 (TAD,TAFC, TD,TS, Comp, SS & Stock)
D6-2 Mission, BC 191 (TAD,TAFC, TD,TS, Comp, SS & Stock)

IHRA
D3-3 Martin 123 (TD, TS, SS, Stock)
D3-4 N/A as of yet

D9-4 Kinston 53 (SS & Stock, TD & TS is N/A as of yet)

This is a scary 987 cars i have to do stats for this weekend, "Cut me Mick",lol
Everybody have a great weekend and hopefully see you next weekend at our first Buckeye SS/Stk, NSS Combo race at National Trails Raceway.

D 1 Had 117 cars in just stock. What a great turnout.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Joe,

It looks like you will have an easy weekend coming up because Topeka is 201 entries short of the quota including 73 Super Stockers and 44 Stockers.

That's 201 entries X $270.00 entry fee = $54,270 plus whatever addition charges NHRA can come up with short on their Gross Sales.

If the 201 missing entries had brought along 1 crewmember that number grows to a $68,340 loss of Gross Sales.

That's a BIG SH-T SANDWICH to have to eat.

I don't know how long NHRA can carry this type of loss????

They had better have an updated business plan, or they also could be looking to get some of that STIMILUS money???

So all of guys & gals out there who are thinking about going to race at Topeka, the cut off for entries is today at 1:00 PM Pacific Time.

Bob

Re: The weekend in numbers

Bob,

I think your numbers are a little off base. With a total of 496 cars, I think Joe will have a busy week.

Not sure why you, and some others are always looking at the quota number. A real gage on if the participation is up or down would be last years totals at the same event. last year at Topeka there was about 320 cars, with two less classes. I think it would have been about the same last year if there was the same amount classes as this year.

So your doom and gloom along with your charming way of showing your displeasure with NHRA does not hold water for this race.

Here's a prime example why NHRA will #%@* us till the cows come home.No two people on this site can agree on anything.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Ken,

I look at that because that is the number that NHRA posts as it entry quota.

I also remember when, if you didn't have 4 or 5 grade points, you stayed home.

I guess that you are using new math because the entry number that you quoted for 2008 was incorrect by 25.59%.

The actual enrty was 430 not 320 for 2008 Topeka

They are also running 1 more elimator this year (Stock) and having Class Elimations in both Stock & Super Stock

Just new math.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Bob,

I did forget super comp, actually there was 427 total. At the last look, it is now 507, those numbers look pretty good to me.

Even with the extra class this year, the total would be about the same. I know your looking for NHRA to fail miserable, but I still have not seen the doom you and others are hoping for.

What does a 4 or 5 grading have to do with anything? Racers are just waiting to the last day to register.

My math be have been off, but using NHRA's quota is your way of making NHRA look like the are loosing racers. Given the economy, I think participation is still good.

So Bob, how will you spin the numbers now? 507 is still pretty stout!

Who's using the new math now?

Ed,

I will not agree with you and others that say NHRA is doomed, It may not be perfect, but judging by this years numbers, you and your supporters are in the minority when it comes to not going racing with NHRA.

At the Maple Grove points meet in div 1, there were 561 cars.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Ken,

Forgive me, but you don't have a clue of what my motives are.

So please don't try to be a mind reader and assign your thoughts to me.

We race on the west coast and the picture out here is very different from yours.

I don't have a solution, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a problem.

NHRA is the big show, but that doesn't mean the IHRA is not welcome out here.

Competition makes anyone better.

Bob

Re: The weekend in numbers

Bob,

Your post is obviously negative toward NHRA, your motive is clear. The west coast has always had the problem of only one sanctioning body, nothing new there. The west coast numbers also look about the same as last year.

Like I said NHRA is not perfect, but nothing in life is, making everyone happy is an impossibility.

This thread was about numbers, you felt you needed to exploit the fact NHRA at Topeka was not looking good. Obviously they are, and all I am doing is pointing that out.

I do agree that competition is a good thing.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Ken,

LODRS Div. 7 - 1 Tucson
In 2008 114 entries in Stock & S/S
In 2009 84 entries in Stock & S/S
2009 had 73.6% of the 2008 race entries

LODRS Div. 7 - 2 Phoenix
In 2008 152 entries in Stock & S/S
In 2009 115 entries in Stock & S/S
2009 had 75.6% of the 2008 race entries

You might be correct about Topeka, but numbers don't lie and you still don't have a clue what my motives are,
Bob

Re: The weekend in numbers

Keep going Bob, you will find the numbers your looking for to prove your point.

Maybe you should also look at the local bracket races from year to year.

Here is a little history for you. 2002, div 7 TUCSON, 48 Stk and 24 SS. Pretty poor showing, but the years that followed increased dramatically. I'm sure it will happen again. See I can spin numbers too.

Being down about 25% at 2 div races is not the end of NHRA.

You keep saying I don't know your motive. Bob, everyone reading this thread knows your motive.

Re: The weekend in numbers

Just asking all you guys who keep wanting the NHRA to fail: Who will provide you all a place to race after that?

IHRA? You guys hate crate motor combos, so that won't work. IHRA is in deeper crap than the NHRA anyway.

AHRA? Good chance for all of you to get in on the ground floor. He's got the rights to the name, that's all it takes to run a nationwide organization, right?

ADRL? Ooopppsss, no S/SS allowed.

NHRA has it's issues, but it is still light years ahead of anyone else.

It's not about me Jack. It's about some of us racing S/SS who are getting enhanced to death by your
friends in Glendora.Granted the economy has the most to do with the down turn in participation in the other divisions. Here in Div 1 we will always get good fields due to geography.Check Englishtown entries,
you can count out of division cars in S/SS on both hands, feet aren't needed.
I don't have the luxury of partners and favorable input with the association like you do.I'm a low buck one man operation that does ok on what I have. But like the mom and pop businesses that are going down
in this new world order all the small guys in S/SS will just have to sell their stuff, bracket race or go to car shows.
Kenny,I don't want the demise of NHRA,just for them to get their heads out of their asses and do something to make racing more attractive to sportsman racers.
Oh,BTW looks like Sorensen gets a free pass.NHRA at it's best eh?

Ed -- Once again you're speaking out of both sides of your mouth --you freely admit that the economy is the problem and yet you blame the folks in Glendora for enhancing us -- and just for the record exactly what favorable imput do you feel I have ? Would it not be for the economy tanking you'd be racing your *** off just like a few years back .As for Englishtown entries - yes , not many are traveling because of the cost -- nothing else as I see it .
As for the Sorensen incident -- do you have any inside info that says its over ?? Maybe you'd like to share.......

Put your reading glasses on Jack.I said PART of the reason is the economy. the other is that some people are tired of all the bull****.As an example I believe Bobby Brannon has his stuff up for sale.
I won't go into your favorable input discussion on here.
If I was still working I guarantee you NHRA would still be getting a lot less of my money than in the past.
I have a lot of alternatives.
If they haven't slapped Sorensen for the infraction yet the only way they might is if Henson and others take legal action against them.

Ed - Pretty nice two-step -- too bad it doesn't wash.........at the end of the day its all about the money or lack of it ! ! ! All the rest is bull............give it up .You're complaining about playing in a game where you can't keep up ( or won't ) with the costs .If you're tired of the BS all you need to do is stay in your backyard and bracket race at E-Town every Sunday -- problem solved .In my 40 plus years of racing I've never seen a racer as unhappy as you .............

PS-- As for my favorable input--- if you feel you have some dirt on me just put it out there .

It has some to do with my currant $$ situation but in general it's the way your NHRA friends are treating
sportsman racers. This sport will survive without me.It will even survive without Jack Matyas also.
I'm far from unhappy when I'm at the track.I have the small circle of friends that hang out and help each other out.And we eat real well to boot.
Weekly brackets is not for me anymore.
The issue isn;'t dirt.Let's just say some are allowed things others aren't.Period,
Admit it Jack,it scares you to death to be beaten by any of us low dollar guys who don't have as much money in our cars as you do in your rims and tires. Goodbye Jack.

Drag racing will certainly survive without me no doubt about it .As for being beaten by a low buck team you're all wet about this one as getting beat by anyone hurts equally -- why the complex ? There was a low buck Nova this weekend at the Lucas race just kickin' *** and takin' no names -- and I was rootin' for 'em . At the end of the day its not about how much $$ you have in your car -- its how much heart you have in your chest .
