Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
There are a few individual tracks as well as some smaller regional series that run some heads-up index, no throttle stop racing. (stops allowed, but must be stationary through entire run, no timers, etc.) The PTRA runs 1/8th mile 5.30, 6.0 and 7.0 classes in the Carolinas.
Any interest in this type of racing elsewhere in the country, and if so, what indexes would make the most sense for 1/4 mile racing? Thanks for your input, |
Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
I know that Englishtown, Maple Grove & Cecil County have no electronics index racing. Not sure about the specifics of E-town or Maple Grove, but Cecil has an 8.50-7.50 Index class for door cars. They also have a 10.00 & 12.00 class. I know the 10.00 & 12.00 class your required to have DOT tires mufflers, full interiors and full frame or back halved cars, so as to appear more street looking than full out racecars.
It would be interesting to see what the turnout would be for an index class geared more towards race appearing (ie. no electronics class cars) in maybe the 10.00, 10.50, 9.50 indexes. |
Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
US 41(Indiana) has a heads up 10.00 class with no electronics that's gaining popularity. Nothing would make me happier than to race supercomp with out electroncis or electronic/pneumatic throttle stops. But Idon't forsee that ever changing.

i think it a great idea BUT also remember BM tried this when he owned IHRA

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
I think I-57 in Benton, IL has some semi regular index races like that.. They are a little 1/8th track in southern IL. Im not sure what the exact classes are, but i know they have a 8.00 class that i thought about running with my footbrake car, and sever other faster indexes.

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
out west, they run two different series at famoso (bakersfield) with heads up no electrics style racing. D/GAS (10.60) seems to be where I am heading with these guys.

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
Toronto Motorsports runs the OSCA which run X.90 index classes, I ran it one summer and it was great. I would be interested in a series like this closer to home (Columbus, OH). http://www.raceosca.com/

This is my first post here. We run those series (ANRA & WCHRA) too in E/Gas (11.60). It's been a lot of fun. We do it with an unusual combo, a rear engine VW, with a stick shift trans. Anyway, maybe we'll see you out there. The XX.60 index classes seem to be the thing out here in the west, and I don't think a single one that I am aware of allows any electronic devices of any kind. T-brakes are allowed, but no throttle control and no down track use of rev limiters either. That means some pedaling on the big end, as quite a few cars run well under the index. |
Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
The new NHRA UN-LEASHED SERIES sounds pretty interesting and will offer; 8.5 index, 10.0 index, 11.0 index, 12.0 index, and 13.0 index in a NON T-STOP Format: http://www.nhra.com/story/2010/2/2/n...ails-released/

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
At Gateway in Missouri we have heads up classes called Gateway outlaw all stars. I believe it's 13.00, 12.00 , 11.00, 10.00, 9.00 on a 5 tenth Pro Tree. I run S/ST and slowing down with weight and timing. So this is familiar with me. With a stick you can't throttle stop or run a delay box. I guess you can set up a delay box but I don't want one. So I run S/ST with no electrionics and no throttle stop. Makes you work harder and it's a blast.

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
Out here In Calif. I run D/gas, 10.60, in my pickup. Only problem is it's a .400 tree. My 4000 lb turd won't react that fast. Now .500 tree and ??????????????
I like the heads up no electronics. For me I take some weight off to get to the number. |

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
I remember exactly where I was and the sinking feeling in my stomach when saw a delay box for the first time. I knew that little Deadenbear thingie was just the beginning. About 5 years or so later when a guy I was driving for started hanging all the crap on the car I decided I was done. I could have my digger and me ready to license in about 80 working hours if it was about driving from the seat again. But, I don't see that happening.
It really sucks because I'm tired of bumping my head on that thing. Just a .02 from somebody who had a lot of fun in the past. |
Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
I'm thinking about trying to run 12.00 index what methods are best for slowing down consistently. I need to lose 1.00 !

Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
Just like FrankM mentioned earlier - we run .90 index heads up pro tree classes from 8.90 to 12.90 - All are no electronics, no throttle stops.
10.90 and quicker can use transbrakes - 11.90 & 12.90 are footbrake only. We've been running these classes for the past 10 years. Car counts vary by class with 10.90 being the largest. We've had fields as big as 34 cars in 10.90 and as little as 4 cars in 8.90.... For some reason, 12.90 seems to be a very low car count - you would think that it would be one of the largest fields as it's a fantastic class for entry level racers. Our series also runs an open comp and pro comp class (1 tenth breakout allowed) and some of the index racers run both their index class and one of the comp classes. www.raceosca.com - see schedule and bring your cars up for some fun!! We get quite a few racers from western New York. |
Re: Any interest in no t-stop index racing?
