New Rules

2009 IHRA Rulebook Revisions and Clarifications

6/8/09

Qualifying / Paring Adjustment for Pro Am events: Effective immediately, competitors in Stock and Super Stock must have a valid elapsed time or attempt at least one qualifying pass to be placed on the ladder for eliminations. No class changes are permitted after a competitor has made a qualifying attempt.

I was under the impression that was the rules all along. I guess you have to have some casualties before rules can be inforced. For those who know what this is in regards to, it's only a joke. I'm not mad at ya'

Whelp, no more showing up on Sunday... That had saved me a lot of money a couple of times.

I agree with you Michael.....I really liked that part about IHRA...where you could show up Sunday without a time trial and race

hey Michael. can you set up an online vote on my new rule change. this rule also applies to double header racers who mite like to skip sunday morning qualifying after winning on saturday & attend church services before sundays race?

Joe - not in Div. 9 there isn't.

Mark - When you go to post a "New Thread", you'll find options at the bottom of the screen for adding a Poll to it. Totally off-topic - I couldn't find a way to download those videos. Maybe check with Jim Helsel on the forum here. He has some contacts with 1320X.

Yep, and Div 9 ProAms are all single races.

Re: New Rules

Now we operate the same as a national event. A new rule is just we need to keep snakes from slithering in, in the middle of the night at a Pro-Am to eat the slow and weak. That was HUGE problem. Of course THAT was legal by the rule book,,, then. Will we see a rule on the buy-backs?

Re: New Rules

I can't believe actually having to make a QUALIFYING pass in a qualified field is too much to expect !
They must think there is a benefit of being at the bottom of the qualifying list ?

Re: New Rules

There are quite a few that like to go bracket racing on Saturday then show up Sunday morning... Like Mr. Beard and Richard Alford for example.

And there are some who's work schedule gets them to the far off tracks late Saturday...

Ive only done this once a few years ago, my son had a ball game, I missed the 2 qualifing sessions but can the combo Saturday night with no time run. So I got 3 runs in the Saturday night combo race then raced on Sunday. With this option I miss the race.

Re: New Rules

I was unaware that the single races didn't give a sun. morning run, sorry been a few years I guess since I was at a single points race. For what it's worth I believe that this is due to some things that were done at some of the double races, froom what I've heard. Of course it could have just been racers "venting" Joe

Re: New Rules

So you show up on Sunday, pay your fees, and you're placed last on the qualifying sheet with 23 cars. #1 gets a bye and you have to run #12, who is in the same class as you and you have a heads-up run with a guy who can run 1.3 under and you can only run .700 under. Hmm. what to do...aha, change class to GT/something, which eliminates the "heads-up" problem and reverts you back to bracket mode, viola.
Mike, is this the scenario that prompted the rule change?

No, it's not, but it had been legal at "single" Pro-Am events where there was no scheduled Sunday qualifying run, which generally happens because of the Church "blue laws" where most Carolina races can't start before Noon. The rule has been changed, so we'll run by the new rule.

Can't speak for everyone, but for me, as Lee said, I'm just trying to run multiple series at the same time, and it's not possible for me to be everywhere at once. On two occasions, I have run a bracket points race on a Saturday night, and then come into Kinston on Sunday morning with no qualifying run -- don't really care where they put me on the ladder, I just wanted to race. That being said, it's not really that fair, because I could study the ladder and determine which class I needed to be in to avoid heads-up runs.

I missed Coastal Plains last week because of a Saturday bracket points race that I had to attend. Having never been to Coastal Plains, I couldn't justify the expense while "flying blind" (I at least had data on Kinston from past years). If Coastal Plains had a Sunday qualifying run, I would've gone. I think some of the smaller car-count races could have a Sunday time trial.

My personal opinion only,

Re: New Rules

I don't see why we can't have 1 run on Sunday even on single race weekends. That is the way it used to be when I started racing IHRA. You could run a race on Sat nite and run 1 run Sun after Church service.

Myself and Mike mayhew once ran an nhra div. race in orlando and the nat'ls at darlington, s.c. the same weekend with the same cars. that was a crazy weekend. Nitro joe was in on that ride.

Re: New Rules

Mike and Roger that is the exact scenario that made the rule change. New car came in Sunday to run the car on the bump heads up and had him covered my a mile. The car on the bump withdrew from the race and re-entered at the bottom of the ladder to avoid the heads-up (Against Rules But Was Allowed). Which then makes all the cars on the bottom half of the ladder move up one spot. Go figure I'm the lucky dog that moves from #17 to #16 where I get to run heads up covered over two tenths. I guess you can figure out the outcome from there, but now if the rules are INFORCED there shouldn't be any more of these situatons.

So will they be adding a Sunday time trial or is it effectively now come both days or not at all.
