Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Seems like we just left one flood area and here we go again .The rain Gods surely are laughing their butts off watching us trying to race while they are throwing everything they can muster up at us .I think Mr.Lang (aka--"The Rain Man" ) and company better have a serious talk with these folks as they are literally raining on our parade (no pun intended ) .

Other matters -- the 10K race scheduled for this afternoon is more than likely cancelled but there has been no official word .As for the test n tune that is also a wash ( more pun - sorry I can't help myself )

Good news -- tech is open but no customers at this moment .As you'll see from the pictures below there is much standing water around .The Sun is supposed to return this afternoon according to the weatherman but it might be too little too late for todays activities .

Click on the pictures to enlarge................later

PS-- Thank God for Satelites and Digital TV ! ! ! Also -- thanks Kenny for filling in as I had some parking issues to resolve but we're OK .I would have used your thread but didn't see it until after I posted another .

Jack,

I'm back in sunny Florida. I had a great time at E-Town, wish I was at Atco, but don't miss the rain. I may make some surprise showings later this season. Have a safe race and keep an eye on those Brew Crew guys.

Evan

Update -- 7:15 -- Very brite out tonight -- no rain the last two hours -- things are looking up .....

Evan -- Even though you are now a D2 racer you're always welcome to come back to make some guest appearances here in Division One . BTW , I spoke today with Bill Myers , my partner and he told me it was in the high eighties -- he lives in your area of Florida -- we here in the Northeast would just love some Sun and high temps .

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Friday--8:15 AM EST -- What a difference a day makes -- today is going to turn out just peachy - that thing called the Sun that we haven't seem much of lately has been trying to peek out for the last hour and sooner or later will burn thru the clouds and shine .

I suspect we'll be on the track in about two hours as Joe Sways' crack team along with NHRA are out on the track with full force in an effort to dry us out . Trailer door are open - flaps are down and cars are coming out-- all good signs for sure .Tech is open ..........I guess my point is that if you're sitting on the fence wondering what to do -- here it is -- come on down ! !

the event.

Just do me 1 favor, Keep that Parker guy under control. He's retired now so you never know
what he's up to. lol

Did David Ley say when they would race the $10,000 race?????

Good Luck Racing

I know Atco has a late curfew on Friday night, I think either 11 or 11:30 cause they normally have street night there on Fridays and it's a ZOOOO!!!! Tom yes TA/FC and TA/D are there but not T/S and T/D.

Update 2:20 pm -- Still scraping -- officials are hard at work trying to get the track in shape .Others as pictures will tell are just taking it easy - and yet even others are caught with their mouths open -- its just one of those days ........click on to enlarge .

Yo Jack , I didn't know you retired ? Did you just go to Atco after Englishtown or did you breeze by the dealership and check in ? Could I get an order of your fried chicken with a side a mushrooms and zuccini to go please .

Unbelieveable but true -- the Sun is out -- S/C and S/S got their runs in and S/G is on the track as I type....looks as if we're going to get a second run in tonight.....depends on how the alcohol cars do .

This afternoon Tim Bishop showed up with his F-Bomb B/S Firehawk -- nice piece -- he hasn't been seen much lately . Also pictured during S/S is Johnny D ( in red shirt ) up on a perch taking shots in the bleach box .....
Even though it was a four hour delay Joe Sways guys and the NHRA crew scraped from the burnout to the 660' mark --no easy feat for sure ..and boy oh boy did the track have 'teeth' when they were done.....

Almost forgot -- two records set the first leg -- SS/CA -- Oakes -- 9.02 P/S Cokinos 12.36 .
Pudgie -- I'll put your food order in -- wait at your garage door --might be awhile .And I hope you enjoy the last picture in the group . Ya' shoulda' came .........Also pictured is 'Uncle Buck' -- this time awake and preparing one of his masterpieces and finally we see Bucky Hess multi-tasking........wonder who he is talking with ?

Anyone know what actual weight Brian was running the camaro at? Is he running at 3502 lbs with the 427 476hp alum head combo?

Denny Steward 06-19-2009 08:04 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

he runs alum head combo rated at 445 min weight is 3285 he was 80 lbs heavy at Atco

mannymen 06-19-2009 08:12 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I assume he's using the GM perf alum heads, so do you have to modify the combustion chambers from O/C to C/C to run at 445hp?

RAIN -- And plenty of it ! ! ! This morning we were only minutes from starting eliminations ( because of bad weather headed our way Mr. Lang & Co . decided to start early ) when the sky's opened up bigtime . I would have to say that today doesn't look very promising and tomorrow showers are expected .Rumors are already flying around -- Monday ? Tuesday ? Who knows -- but I'll fill you in as I get the news .

Later today you folks will be getting remnents of what washed over us last night. Four inches of rain in an hour. Good luck.

Get out your water wings!

Things were looking up this afternoon -- rain stopped and the Sun came out and really helped to dry the place out .And even the track owner was optimistic --- Joe Sway himself was out on the track using the vacumn / sweeper -- this guy really is hands on for sure ( see picture below ) .Things were fine until around 9 pm when the rain hit again -- will it ever stop ? Tonight we were treated to a beautiful sunset......

Pairings for 1st rd -- Bialas vs Medeiros heads up -- Allison v Wendy -- Gray v Pires jr -- Martins v Adkins in a battle of sticks --Hawk v Bollman -- there will be a great many singles as a bunch of racers left tonight .........

7:30 AM EST---This morning we've been greeted by dark skies and a fine mist ...mix that with cool temps and a crosswind and its not a great recipe for NHRA racing here at Atco today ......guess we'll hang around for a few hours but like they say --- not good , not good at all .

Jack Matyas 06-21-2009 08:14 AM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

9:50 am -- After a superb effort on the part of Atco Raceway and the NHRA staff Mother Nature won in the end as the event has been cancelled -- SuperStreet racers were in the lanes and ready to go but the misting wouldn't quit .This race will be run alongside the October NHRA Lucas Oil Race here at Atco .

Larry Hill 06-21-2009 08:36 AM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Jack their is still time to enter Norwalk.

When you go back in October for the re-run, don't forget your snow blower.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Sorry about the long weekend Jack, at least they didn't make you hang around all day today. Do you think they will open up the entry list in the fall or limit it to just the people that were there this weekend? Have a save ride home

Angelo DiTocco 06-21-2009 08:58 AM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Good Question Todd
Since they hadn't started any elimination rounds, you'd think it would make sense to open it back up to new entries. I hope they do.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I hope so too.

BKSG1198 06-21-2009 10:00 AM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

From what I was told no new entries are allowed in. The fields were set and they were not going to take any new entrys. Which is kinda surprising cause the car cound looked really really LOW. Not sure about stock or super stock but there was only from what I saw on Friday 2 single lanes of Super Gas and Super Street Cars so maybe 40 to 50 cars per class and I know I saw ALOT of trailers pulling out and leaving yesterday so who knows who might have gotten their money back and withdrew.

Jack,

I backed up the record run with a 12:28 & that's what their going to put in the National Dragster.

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I'm sure not a person would gotten there money back by leaving early. That is a big shame and a sham by not letting more people enter the race that was completey rained out the first time. If NHRA was smart they would let people enter. It might boost the entrys to both races by a bunch. Maybe they will reconsider...

Marty Rinehart Jr 06-21-2009 12:11 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I agree Todd, After all, NHRA is all about the money, aren't they?

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I wouldn't just assume the fields will be closed - evreyone knows how rumors fly around during bad weather - I don't believe there has been any official word - maybe (hopefully) there will be something of an official nature posted on the D-1 website this week. I think it would make sense to open the fields up to additional entries. What ever happened to scheduling in a rain date?

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Ang/Guys

They did announce over the loud speaker this morning....
"that the race was rained out today... will be run on friday of the october atco points meet.... the fields are set ... and so are the ladders".

When Tim Bishop pulled into the pits, Wayne Totaro and I almost went into cardiac arrest! It can't be Tim Bishop, "The Farmer", Mr. John Deere, it can't be.......but it was. Just hope it wont' be another two years before there's another "Farmer" sighting. The Ol' F-Bomber made a good pass in the 2nd session.

The ladders are not on DRC. I usually get one, but, I was pitted way up the road. I would be appreciated if someone could post them. Thanks. Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers. Fortunately my father is alive and well at 83.

So if the race is going to be run on friday in oct what do the rest of us do on that day watch after we have paid our money to race are we going to take time runs in between the rounds of racing that wont work,. they should run the race on thursday in all fairness or open the field period

Bryan Worner 06-21-2009 06:19 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I heard a ladder was posted, but never saw one. It wasn't even posted on DRC!

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I am reasonabley sure that Gloria Ley told me October first, which is a Thursday. I hope the NHRA will post a definate date, with the ladder sheets. Dave Ley will let us know, as soon as he knows, that I am sure of.

David Barton 06-21-2009 07:25 PM

Re: Live from Atco , NJ -- NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I got the ladder sheets from DRAW this morning for Stock & S/S. I hope they scrap it and allow more cars to enter in October. There was so many people missing this weekend.
