IHRA ss/am Attn: Jim Reynolds

Jim I will be @ jackson sc for the pro-am with my little ford 400, I invite you to attend. I have plenty of beer and steaks after we figure who wants AM more.

Re: IHRA ss/am Attn: Jim Reynolds

Jim doesn’t spend much time on the boards, so if you don’t mind I’d like to address your post. My association is only that our shop does Jim’s airflow work.
You may already be aware, but if not, Jim bumped the mark in totally legal SS/PB-1 trim. Stock stroke, single carb, and 3500 lbs. Also, when he bumped the record he was shifting only 300 RPM above the peak power RPM. The plan was a slight bump
His big block was designed for around 900 more peak RPM than it is currently. It was dialed back with a different cam. This was to keep the valve spring costs below that of a typical heroin habit. It was agreed that if the need ever arises, the stick and springs can be changed. The heads are already sized and flowed through the lift range for the extra RPM. We’ve had some 3-teen CI motors with intake lobes as big as Jim’s big block. So, it’s an understatement to say there is more when needed. Add the RPM and another carb and there’s still an easy 100+HP on the table.
Jim does have a much better (on paper) ss/am combination (different car/engine) that can run at minimum weight. But, the ’57 is relatively new and has been the focus for the past year or so. Besides, it’s just plain cool to see such a tank like that ’57 run as hard as it does.
Since I answered 1st, can I claim the steak and beer offer?

Absolutely! first steak is yours...the mustang I drive is actually a Hot street car for NMRA heads up racing.
It has a single 4150 with a cast intake. It just fits AM @ 300 lbs heavy. I thought it was funny that the AM 1/8th mile record was @ a minimum for some time until I set it light @ Richmond. I think jim's car is very cool!, I was just woundering if he was coming down so we can have some fun dropping the hammer with two cars that have no business running AM lol. Good Luck.

These cars that don't look like they belong there are what Sock and S/S are all about. I could care less about seeing another P/S car when just like the 'cup cars the engine parts from a Ford /Chevy/Dodge will damn near interchange. If it weren't for Stock, SS/Modified you couldn't drag me to a race track.

Medium rare on the steak. I'm very picky on the beer...cold.

I say we need more of this!!! Gonna be fun no matter what. What are the chances that y'all could do it side by side and swap lanes each round?

Congrats to Jim on not only dropping that SS/AM record once again to a 5.50 but on taking home the iron man as well, not bad for the debut of a new combination!

And he answered a question nobody ever thought to ask: Will headers made for a Dart Buick head bolt up to splayed heads? The answer is yes. How do the ports match up? Who knows, but good enough to run a 5.50...while one carb short. Ya think there's a little left once he has all the right pieces?

I second this opinion word for word...couldn't really care less about the pros although nitro does smell good.

Well done for me! Beer: Moosehead only.
