Need help finding rules.
Hi everyone,
Kind of an outsider to Stock and Super Stock racing so I was hoping I could get some help trying to understand where to find rules for specific classes in Super Stock. My father and I are trying to understand what the rules are for SS/PAA-1 through SS/PJA-1. As well as SS/PA-2 through SS/PJ-2. And Last SS/PAA-2 through SS/PJA-2. We can't find these class codes in the IHRA or NHRA rule books thus we can't figure out what the rules are for thoses classes. Any help in figuring this out would be appreciated. Thanks, Andrew Stirk |
Re: Need help finding rules.
Hey Andy!
There's a section in the IHRA Rulebook under Super Stock called "Super Stock Production". Starts on page 42... http://www.mydigitalpublication.com/...on/?m=1203&l=1 SS/PAA through SS/PJA are for automatic transmissions, and SS/PAA through SS/PJA are stick cars. "-1" is for 4bbl carbs, and "-2" is for 2bbl carbs. Give it a read, and holler back with any specific questions you might have. |
Re: Need help finding rules.
Hey Michael,
How are ya doing? Been awhile hows things in the Carolinas? Thanks for the information, so from what I gather then the production class is similar to the GT classes where someone could use a FAB 9 inch rear end in any combo and FWD conversions are ok? Essentially this is like a crate motor class but for Super Stock? Which means if I had a 1968 Camaro I could run my choice of BBC 427, 454, or 502 through a single 4 barrel (if we ran -1 class) with a powerglide? and then a 9 inch for a rear end if I choose to? The production classes only exist in IHRA. These car are not legal in the NHRA essentially? Thanks again, Andrew Stirk |

How do you figure out how to classify a Crate Motored Stocker ? Do you use Stock shipping weight and advertised HP of the crate engine ?? |

Re: Crate Motors..... shipping weight of the 'traditional' Stocker (small blocks use small block shipping weight, big blocks use big block shipping weight), divided by the factored HP of the crate motor. http://www.ihra.com/competition/crate_motors.php |

Andrew, some cars will cross over to a SS/Mod Class at NHRA races. SS/PAA-1 = SS/AS or SS/BM, for example. Not sure what would fit what exactly. Although, at an IHRA race several years ago, a racer with a fast SS/BS car claimed SS/PDA-1 once, and an IHRA racer told me it wasn't legal, as SS/Productin has different crank rules and stuff compared to a SS/BM. Might want to check, to be sure a crossover is legal. Also, a SS/PAA-1 (I believe) will have to pull a head for teardown, while a SS/AS, SS/AM is usually just pump-and-go (although I think at one NHRA race they were tearing down some SS/Mod cars. I heard checking bore sizes?). Again, double check with someone. |
Re: Need help finding rules.
Michael,
After all these years of following Stock and Super Stock "N" style, I am finally starting to see the light with SS "IHRA style". Gotta' love those Modified, hood scoop wearing SS cars. I guess I was too lazy to pick up the rulebook. Something about playing with t-stops for far too long! Andrew, You and your dad thinking of building an IHRA SS car? Jumping into FJ's CanAm series? Re: Need help finding rules.
Thanks everyone for the responses and answers to my questions.
Hi Mike, My dad and I are just assessing the feasibility of building a Super Stocker. Can't deny FJ's series has us interested, hard to turn a blind eye to $1000+ winning purses and decent round money and Championship payouts when sometimes at best we race for $400 Plus at Pittsburgh Div 3 bracket finals last year we saw I think one or two SS/PAA-1 cars running and though that we could have a good working SS car that would also work for local bracket races as well just like these racers seemed to have. Just had to figure out what SS/PAA-1 ment lol Our only problem is we have to sell some cars before we buy anything more. The car in my avitar and another IHRA legal Hot Rod car we have will need to be moved first. Thanks, Andrew |
